  • Great work! Keep it up!

  • Too great my friend, you should ask to work with Disney. You could really help bring oswald back to Disney.

  • Poor Oswald

  • wow I almost cried...

  • AWESOME SAUCE

  • Poor Oswald....

  • Aww. I just can't help but tear up at the end. I know that he's a fictional character, but I just feel sad that he was forgotten by so many for a long time. Under different circumstances he could have been where Mickey is today. At least he is back where he belongs now. Gr8 work.

  • I still do remember when he was claimed oswald as his and was going to sue walt disney so walt disney had to create mickey.

  • This is so touching. I can't believe that I haven't seen this yet. I love your use of image sequencing. If you ever pursue animation when you're older, you'll be so good at it.

  • @Gamecubeaddict221 "If you ever pursue animation when you're older"

Because 20-something isn't 'old' or anything.

  • Ok, I have to admit, I was touched by this. The music fit perfectly, with the song being Oswald's theme from Epic Mickey and stuff. I like how you showed that son of a pickle, Mintz taking Oswald away when the music got intense. That was what had come to mind when I first heard his theme play at that part. You did a very nice job on this and I'm definitely liking and faving. ;)

  • I just finished Epic Mickey, and Oswald's starting to grow on me... Really liked how you told your story, and I love how it fits with the theme! Job well done. :D

  • 2:12, Oswald see Mickey as his new replacement.

How sad! This remindof the part of the story in Peter Pan, when peter goes home to find a new baby.

This made me tear up, no joke!

  • @EskayCompositions So he secretly went on to be a metal singer who bites the heads off bats?

  • amazing....i love this. seriously....

  • This is an amazing peice of work you have here! I would love to see more like this.

  • I just always LOVED Oswald. He was (and will always be) my favorite character EVER.

  • Aww Oswald's even cuter than Mickey...Anyway, good job on this, it's sweet/bittersweet and tells the story perfectly simple. Not to mention, the drawings are so adorable, and the music is perfect!

Awww I just wanna hug Oswald at the end...reminds me of Toy Story, probably the 3rd one, except Oswald is a lot cuter than Lotso.

  • id like a sequel to this to tell the years in between, and up to the creation of epic mickey....(just an idea)

  • I think this outta make any true Oswald fan tear up. I know I sure did

  • AMAZING JOB! You almost made me cry, REALLY! (You made him look so cute)

  • I almost cried, BRAVO!!!

  • Pretty cool animation!

But don't worry about the story being similar to Lotso's backstory in Toy story 3...there's a similar plot from the movie "Hook." (it's pretty good if you haven't seen it. It's supposed to be a sequel of sorts to Peter Pan) Anyway, there's one scene where Peter goes back to his birth home and finds his window locked and his mom caring for a new baby.

  • I think we shouldn't call him anything other than just "Oswald" or "Ozzie" anymore. I mean, his story proves that he is most definitely not a "lucky" rabbit.

  • oswald owns all disney charecters!

  • @FireSilverGirl101 Actually The Walt Disney Company does.

  • @TwilSea well true but still oswald owns! >:3

  • That was very good. Thank you very much for uploading a video as good as this. I am going to favorite it as soon as possible. (:

  • Oh my gosh, this is amazing! I love it! It's pretty sad, and it's also kinda scary at the part where they're fighting over the contract. This conveys so much emotion, and the music from Epic Mickey really helps.

  • guessing this was made on an ipad

  • @herecomescoppin Nope. Photoshop drawings, done via Wacom tablet. Then edited together in Windows Movie Maker.

  • sooo sad but really good i almost cried i'm glad he's back :)

  • with Disney owning Marvel I can hear the Howard Stark jokes now

  • This made me cry......

  • *applause* I wanted to make an animation with that story, but you did it better. You matched the art style perfectly with the music, it's as if the music was made to your slideshow. If I could, would you let me make an animated version of your slideshow?

  • @Alterego912 Elaborate on what you mean by making an animated version, please.

  • @TwilSea frame-by-frame, tweening, moving cartoon. the stills in a motion sequential

  • @Alterego912 Got an example of your work?

  • @TwilSea in my channel

  • @Alterego912 Thanks for the offer, but I'd like to leave my video as is. I plan to animate it a little more, further down the line on my own, anyway.

  • poor oswald... :'(

  • oswald is cute and awesome!

  • 1 dislike? UGH. WAIT TILL MY FATHER HEARS ABOUT THIS.

  • @Magert4eva Statistically, somebody *has* to dislike something.

  • @TwilSea But this is to good to dislike! :[

  • Beautiful, there should be a 2nd part to this story when Al Micheals gets Oswald back to Disney and Waren Spector gives Oswald a new generation of fans

  • I always KNEW Andrew Ryan was Oswald's creator!

Cartoonist and dystopian dictator. That's talent for you.

  • @DoctorMGinius I officially cannot watch this anymore without thinking that. Thanks, man!

  • @TwilSea You're... welcome? :P

  • i wanted 2 be oswald 4 halloween :(

  • poor oswald it makes me feel sad just like how im forced into shareing my sisters youtub profile but i hope they remake oswald cartoons.

  • This is good story! :) It's also a sad story too. Make me wanted to cry and I haven't cry for a very long time. I probably am on the inside. :'( But still, it's a very good story and I like it a lot. It deserves an award or two. :)

  • Hey nice drawings!

  • we still love you Oswald!!!

  • I think my heart broke a little. I love you Oswald! Come back to us soon!!

  • I'm gonna cry )':

    Poor Oswald!!

  • I grew up with Mickey but I love Oswald more. He's so cool! -has Ozzie plush..-

  • wouldn't be cool if they made a new cartoon series staring him?

  • Everytime I hear Oswald's name, it just makes me feel sorry, and it pains me a lot. Poor Oswald, you will never be forgotten in our hearts. We will love you forever...

  • now oswlad is reborn!

  • Aww. Poor Oswald... Charles Mint >.> gee.

  • I'm trying *sinf* not *sinf* to *sinf* *cries* D-;

  • Wow! Very well done. It has a nice emotional touch.

  • Thats sad..

  • Epic.... I love it!

  • Oh god my heart.

This is so great and so sad. This also has to be one of the best drawn Oswalds I've seen. It looks very true to the original! And of course, the soundtrack of Epic Mickey is amazing too.

  • This is nothing short of wonderful. Very sweet. Ub Iwerks has always been a hero of mine, since his was the first name I ever saw on a cartoon. His "Flip The Frog"s were shown on afternoon TV in Minneapolis in the very early '50s.

  • poor oswald

  • This story about the two is like a bedtime story. Oswald is stolen and he ends up longing for attention in wasteland, forgotened. then mickey comes along, fixes up his accident, and befriends his 'half brother'. Then they both realize how lucky they were. Love how Warren did the story.

  • :( So sad. I love the cute rabbit. *cuddles him*

  • so sad : (

  • This was the most heart-wrenching thing I've ever seen. He was the top toon, the best there was in his day...until CHARLES MINTZ cheated WALT, I must say you did an excellent job summarizing OSWALD's story in this storyboard, nice work on working along with the music as well! By any chance, are you gonna make this an actual animated vid?

  • @StarmanPhantom Well the founder of Universal was not happy of what Mintz did, so he kicked Mintz out and Oswald was later Animated by Walter Lantz

  • So sad, tragic, and historically accurate. That music needs a happy bit at the end so that his return could be shown! I truly detest Mintz for cheating Walt out of his character. At least Ub Iwerks was loyal. I love Disney and Iwerks forever!

  • I learned bout oswald after I got the game; wish I knew him before, but you can't blame me for not knowing him. I am a teen, and I havent looked at Walt Disney in a different way. Walt and Iwerks are awesome

  • Woww I never even herd of Oswald until this day, I always grew up wit mickey mouse. Sooo sad :(

  • it makes me wanna cheer and cry at the same time! It's WAY too short of a story :(

  • awwwww :(

  • Lots of people who draw Oswald notice that his ears work the same way Mickey's ears do. They stay the same distance apart and change position because of the camera angle or his movement. If you don't know what I'm talking about, watch the Epic Mickey cutscenes and watch the last scene carefully.

  • @Rock29Roll Yep, I always keep that in mind whenever I draw Oswald, or Mickey for that matter! It's like a Rule of Thumb for drawing either of em.

  • This is by far the most well-storyboarded interpretation of oswald's theme ever encountered. You did an excellent job dramatising Oswald's historical backstory and the emotions tying to the events contained within it. With the emotional value contained in this story,I just went the extra mile and liked the video.

    But still, here's to Oswald!

  • i just watched this and i immediately bought his plush version so he will be remembered always

  • @ichrisq aw

  • Charles Mintz disliked this. (sorry I just had to say that ^^)

  • This is utterly heartbreaking. Poor Oswald....

Hopefully Disney'll notice how many fans he has now and keep him around.

  • Being an individual who has studied Disney Animation all his life in the hopes of becoming a Disney Animator himself and knowing the story of Oswald I must say this little video absolutely broke my heart.... beautifully done!

  • i actually just cried:'(... amazing video... shame on Universal studios...

  • ...Aaaaaw D:

  • aww this makes me sad :( poor Oswald :(

  • I never knew about Oswald until I found a disney fan on DA who drew Oswald it saddens me he is awesome stupid Universal you missed a great opertunity

  • GAH!  I miss him! I cried so much! And now as i type this im crying. ;______;

  • I'll never see Universal Pictures the same again. They claimed Oswald to be theirs but then abandoning him after years...

Disney, WE WANT - and Walt NEEDS AN OSWALD THE RABBIT MOVIE! Let's rejoice the Old Disney with the new one!

  • this is so cute~<3

  • poor oswald, its sad mickey was more popular :( oswald will still be #1 in my book.

  • dude i have seen this 6 times and i still tear up T_T

  • This is sad but its so true.....

  • Sniffle, I miss oswald

  • Oswald is awesome, he was the firsts tep to mickey, and the hole incorperation! Its a shame he was forgetten, and I hope he will make another break. Maybe be seen at Disney world/land??? He was only there ONCE at the land. That was the only time his costume appeared! Its a true shame.

  • This is awesome!

  • do one about oswald's return to disney!

  • I'll never throw away any of my own characters again! :'(

  • 1 word: SUPERCALIFRAGULISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS!

  • Truly a sad fate. I'm sure Walt loved both his children. Now they can be together.

  • OMG POOR OZZY!!!! D'X

  • This was great! I loved it! I like how you incorporated the real story with the Epic Mickey one. They really fit together nicely. And Walt and Ub were spot on! They looked perfect! I'd love to see more like this.

  • This must bein how he got stuck in the Wasteland.

  • Who'd thought Universal was evil?

  • @skellington15 I thought that was Charles Mintz right there.

  • This is genius!

  • lol i love oswald<3

walter disney must of been happy to create him.....

    but.......the contract...... ah! poor oswald!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    i love oswald......

    this made me cry!

  • @mintygreenbanana I KNOW RIGHT?! D'X

  • Great animation. Now I just want to cry :')

  • OMG this is so beautiful...I love it. You illustrated his story so well...I started tearing up at the end. Thank you so much for this! :)

  • MY GOD! Thats really sad! It makes me want to hug that lucky rabbit! :(

  • This made me want to cry ;__;'

It was very well done. It's sad how Oswald was forgotten...It's a shame he had to go to Universal.. Oswald is an amazing character.

It didn't all 'start with a Mouse'. It started with a rabbit. A very cute and loveable rabbit who should still belong to Disney :]

  • Lol, who is Ub Iwerks?

Great video! I'm glad someone knows what up. ;)

  • @TheHarlequinHatter Lol, wikipedia him if you're serious.

    And thanks!

  • @TwilSea Haha, no, it was a joke because SO many people don't know about him, for better or worse.

  • and this is an amazing piece by the way, I really love the way you animated his story, it always makes me feel back at the end...

  • its only thanks to Epic Mickey that Oswald is being recognized again

  • That was beautiful.

  • aww poor oswald

  • man its not flashy yet i still got all choked up T^T

  • This made me feel like crying. I hope Oswald makes a comeback someday.

  • @Martiangrl86 He was mostly a silent cartoon star -- perhaps Pixar can take advantage of that, and use him for their short films (no dialogue in those, except for Boundin')

  • @Tendoking I dunno about Pixar....For starters, they already had a short starring a rabbit (Presto!), two if you count the Jackalope. I know they're now part of Disney but it wouldn't feel right seeing him in 3D medium. Much like how they treated the Fab Five in Mickey's Playhouse.

  • T///n///T that is so sad. It makes me miss my characters I made when I was very young.

  • i must say this is so true

    i fell bad for him

  • great job Its VERY GOOD it makes me feel for him even more even though I know Walt wanted Oswald but couldn't have him.I bet Walt is looking down from heaven happy 2 know that Oswald is back were he belongs,WITH THE DISNEY COMPANY & his mouse brother Mickey! :D.Oswald had only 26 cartoons made by Walt for Oswald.

you did very well it portrayed his life really well except on how he came back in Epic Mickey. You should do another like this with Epic in it.(not trying be mean just a suggestion.)

  • Fantastic work. This is exactly how I saw the situation in my head with the music and you're the first and only one to put it so beautifully. Thank you.

  • This is amazing. Got me a little choked up too.

  • Aw.

  • This is in-freaking-credible! I love it~! <3

And to think, me being such a huge Oswald fan, I found this totally by accident. I wish I'd known about this video before! DX

  • I'd say that we need a second short about this one.

But this time, about Oswald's comeback as one of the main characters of Epic Mickey. Maybe he'll now be remembered.

  • @Zennyker Kinda redundant, since there's already Epic Mickey.

  • @TwilSea AWESOME JOB!! I love it! like how you put Ub & Walt together agian. This was great!!!!

  • @TwilSea I still watch it

  • This is a wonderful little animatic, you can really see the dedication and love you put into it. I'm sure the game would have benefitted from a little exposition on Oswald's history with Walt, but this is a beautiful tribute none the less. Well done!

  • Oops! Sorry it was Pushing Daisy comics not Epic Mickey, I misheard it. Well... your still mentioned by Mr. Dooley! =P

  • This would make a great Fantasia short!

Pertaining to Jim's music, I've heard some Epic Mickey comics are to be released this fall, with newly composed music by Jim Dooley. He mentioned it in a recent interview available here (along with how he amazed he was with your animation!).

    disneydispatch. com /content/columns/from-the-mouth-of-the-mouse/2011/11-jim-dooley-disney-composer/

29:05 in the Podcast (24:06 for Oswald's Theme)

  • @RogerDog Woah, thanks for linking me to that- I'm turning bright red over here!!! And thanks for the kind words!

  • @RogerDog Hey, this is Jeff from Disney Dispatch. Thanks for listening to the podcast! I hope you enjoyed it! Jim was actually referring to the Pushing Daisies comics that he was composing new music for. That would be awesome if he was doing it for Epic Mickey, though! There are some Epic Mickey comics available now that serve as a prequel to the game.

  • I want to cry...poor Oswald.

  • i think i have a tear in my eye

  • OMG someone read up on their Walt Disney history! That was an EPIC (no pun intended) adaptation of how Walt lost his rights to Oswald!!! Like OMG it even when with the music!

Like you have no idea how proud I am of you! Finally, someone who knows how Oswald was truely lost through the cruel power of contract and copyright law. :/

Either way: Loved it and I"m an animation student at an art school so I know this is amazing.

    I'm actually jealous! XD

    But loved it. <3

  • I seriously hope Oswald gets brought back for more stuff.

  • Dude, this is brilliant! I just posted it to Facebook and submitted it to a couple of blogs, hope you don't mind. The level of thought and genuine emotion that have gone into this short story is staggering. I want people to see this.

  • @RegicidalManiac So long as it all credits back to me, that's fine- thanks!

  • So, what happened to oswald? What is oswald's story? Wikipedia doesn't seem to have all the info :/

  • @miketh2005 in 1928, Walt created Oswald and Oswald became the greatest cartoon star of the late 1920's. however, Walt and Charles Mintz had a contract dispute. Basically Walt had a choice to accept the cut in money for the cartoons and a smaller staff since Mintz took most of the staff or lose the character. Frustrated that he couldn't make high quality cartoons with the cut, Mintz took away Owsald from Walt and used him as his own. Soon, Walt created Mickey and so Oswald was forgotten till now

  • My only complaint is that Mickey should have looked like he did in Plane Crazy. Otherwise, this is canon in my book!

  • You made this? WOW! It gave me chills! Your awesome, dude! Subscribed! Made me feel sad for poor Oswald. Had to remind myself that he's not real! Wow, just wow.

  • bring oswald back disney please

  • this is amazing, if only the people at disney didnt throw oswald out of the way and brought mickey, things wouldve been completly different, although we all love mickey, oswald is amazing, they shouldve kept him, i think they should do shows like the old ones and involve oswald in them, they would be magor hits

  • @hiphopgirl2k9 Oswald was property of Universal Studios until 2006. Disney hasn't had ownership over his character for more than about 6 years.

  • Oh gosh poor Oswald!!

  • Dude, this was the coolest, imaginable piece of work I ever seen. Looking at this video makes me think that this could have been a great deeper intro for Epic Mickey. All the time, this is what I imagine of Oswald's tragic legacy. Plus, I love it that it's done in black and white - really adds mood and tone to the story. Thumbs up!

By the way, are you planning on the next one and, this time, doing animation? That would be awesome. If not, keep doing what you're great at it.

  • @MORENOx112486 Wow, thank you! That's quite a compliment!

I really didn't plan on doing another one. Like I mentioned to somebody else, there's not much I can do since Warren and his team have tied up the story between what happens before and during Epic Mickey.

  • You should make pt2 and at the end Mickey gives Oswald a heart

  • @Zumirocks1 I'd be stepping on Mr. Spector's toes with that one.

  • this is so great!! they should have had something like this in epic mickey. congrats on getting spector's praise too. Lucky you! :D

  • I LOVED IT!!! i almost cryed at the end D':!!! YOUR GREAT AT THIS!!! :D you should be a professional ^^

  • i love oswald the lucky rabbit

  • inspirational

  • The ending had me in tears. But you forgot the happy ending, where Oswald get's merchandise and has a video game :) Beautiful work!

  • This is a real Disney tale! Do you work at Disney? This video is just stunning. Music brings me back memories from Disneyworld. Oh, and Im finnish, so my english isnt quite good.

  • @sipinii I was able to understand you just fine, and thank you! And no I don't work for Disney. I used to work in Walt Disney World, though, but that didn't have anything to do with animation.

  • I wanted to make an animation based around this theme and Oswald's story. You've done it 1000% better than the way I was imagining it. :o

  • Beautiful! Just absolutely amazing! Makes me tear up a bit. :'(

Wow, even Warren Spector himself was impressed and commented! What an honor for you! :D

  • Comment removed

  • Please bring Oswald to Disney plus this just like lotso story and that was just a sad thing to Oswald

  • poor oswald

  • SO SAD!!!!
