Dervish are far too good to be in a crappy contest like the Eurovision. As for Terry Wogan's commentary at the start / middle , you deserted us Irish many years ago attitude wise on your commentaries on your UK hostings of this annual event.
Wikipedia's artickle about the Prague's Spring should help partialy explain what this song is about. John Waters, a sonwriter, has described this song as "a kind of Celtic celebration of the Eastern European revolutions and their eventual outcome". The song is also quoting Dubček's alleged comment:"They may crush the flowers, but they can't stop the Spring." For anyone who lived behind the iron curtain, this song means a lot. To me, as a Czechoslovakian, this song means quite a lot.
I liked that song since i first listened it and I was very disappointed! Such a quality deserves more than 5 points if not win! This is simple example that eurovision has become a piece of shit!
Nice song...AWFUL singing! How is that woman a professional. DOn't go giving me "It's traditional singing"! It's flat, nervous and painful to listen to! CLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
Hardly lost because of Block voting, it lost because she sucked. And like I said, I love the actual song.
Ireland have sent Donna and Joe,Chris Doran and Mickey Joe Hart in recent years and claim the only reason they lost was because of block voting? ARe you for real?
@PavelBJ who cares if she did - her job is singing. would you get operated by a surgeon with no hands, just because "you should know, he had serious problems with them before your brain transplant"?
if she has problems with the voice she shouldn't be on a music contest - she is not qualified. tough, but true. or did you expect sympathy / pity points for that?
if england sung like the best in the world we would have lost no-one likes us british but europe were right to vote us off schooch sucked go dervish!!!!
Please, someone kill Terry Wogan to prevent him from talking during the songs, especially during this beautiful song that so did not deserve the last place! Stupid Eastern countries, what have you done to the Eurovision Song Contest? :-(
nah if anybody deserved last it was england. its a traditional irish song but when you look at englands entry it seems obvious that they dont have a tradition...the contest is all politics any way
What absolute crap. Why should u get extra points for "tradition" you are clasping at straws. It was a dated entry thats all - badly sung apparently. the Uk was equally crap. thats why we were 23th & 24th! Get over it - u were last.
Well I agree there is a large part politics (now playing an even bigger role) but both the UK & Ireland are capable(unbelievably so) of sending entries to blow away the East - unfortunately neither the RTE or BBC seem to have the finger on the pulse or are interested!
To be fair, Serbia simply entered a song which we have seen in Eurovision many times previous (just in a differnt guise) - it also helped it by being an Eastern / ex- Yugo country - the perfect recipe.

Pleasent enough, but forgetable. At least we could take the piss out of the UK entry... Neither of us deserved to do well this year.
