Pretty impressive camera work from 1.33 - 1.50; keeping it as steady as that while following a skier at about 50mph through a series of narrow channels! Also, I think the reverse flip at 2.04 is actually more impressive than the stunt at the end where he jumps off the clip.
You’d think it would be easier to type it along the watch display! I mean that’s a lot of tape to fit into watch or part of watch wrist as the watch could never hold that much tape. LOL
This is one cool opening well aren’t they all. I last saw The Spy Who Loved Me at the EMPIRE Leicester Square, London in digital projection, not the best picture transfer over 35mm. The sound mix was the same for the early DVD release Dolby 5.1 on the EMPIRE’S 56KW custom JBL sound system and the bass was kicking me! The mid range and highs can be a bit toppy at times depending on the mix.
I met Lewis Gilbert at the Empire and said thank you for the entertainment and got picture standing beside him, nice chap or, what a helpful chap. LOL The song and nice beat on this full of depth that gave me flashbacks of the Empire screening in THX.
Too bad the video is the monaural mix thou that is how it was exhibited in 1977!
I wonder if Roger Moore ever went on these shoots or did his entire Bond career in front of a blue screen, haha, he was basically the 70s and 80s version of a Segal. Good Stunt acting though.
When I first saw this back in 1977 I knew we were in for one hell of a ride with this movie. This is Roger Moore's finest time as 007 - simply brilliant and never bettered!
Imagine if they re-released this film in cinemas' today. I can imagine it would still get a good audience (ppl who want to re-watch it), I bet that jump would still get an applause from a lot of audiences.
No doubt...this is one thing I LOVE about old movies. Stuntmen. No CG. No shakey action-cam. No green screen. Just one crazy guy getting paid to jump off a goddamn sheer cliff face and flash his parachute at the camera. The old Bond movies, the car chase in Bullitt... I wish they'd bring all that back.
the jump at the very end is a phenomenal stunt, all of the bonds stunts are real thats 1 of the reasons i love these movies

Groovay, what's up with the funky music, why don't they use music in this style for the Bonds today? =D

The discarded skis almost tangled with the opening parachute, so the stuntman was very lucky.

Does anyone know how to get ahold of this music? I have the "Bond 77" track, but it isn't the same exact track as what's playing here.

You also have to ask yourself? How does Bond know he’s going to need a parachute? Is he physic or what? LOL

@hh1n Pretty sure it uses the bass line from the BeeGees 'You should be dancing'. And affirm on the kick ass nature of this entire segment!

Bonds Russian pursuers were hardly going to ski down a sheer ice face ,with out the aid of parachutes were they ?
Anyway its a film and shooting him in the first scene would make the film a little short would it not ?
