Alright, you self-righteous haters who have no respect. I do not agree with using mercenaries as death squads or in place of soldiers (some people believe Blackwater is operating in Pakistan), but that's no reason to spit on the deaths of the Blackwater agents. Sure, these former special operators or soldiers are probably smart people who could become doctors, businessmen, etc. but that doesn't mean it's so easy to transition back into "normal" civilian life, or stay there for that matter.

But what about these former special operators or ground soldiers who retire after many years of service? What are they supposed to do? Some of them become cops or instructors, others pursue more traditional careers like medicine or engineering.

I dont give a shit what the government had to do with Iraq. But I do know that as the military is concerned we have had the best interests of Iraq and its people. I believe I sacrificed two tours for the Iraqis and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Iraq is a great country with great people and they deserve a government that wont behead them for speaking out. Iraq was a justified war and I dont give a shit what Blackwater got out of it.
People need to quit putting such a bad rep on private security. Everyone that is in it, at one point was in another military branch. But you don't hear anybody talking shit about them at that point. Also, the money is really not that much different between a blackwater individual and a regular military individual. It cost the government a whole lot of money to house and maintain your regular military soldier. Private contractor just has more of a choice where his money goes.
These guys are better trained and more prepared. Also, they only get paid while on the job. Once the contract is over they have to fend for themselves and their family. I wish people would show a little more respect.
At 2:55, does he realize that most of the actual military's vehicles aren't armored either? Police departments around the country donate the plates from their old SWAT vests to the military so they can armor the bottoms of the humvees. Most, sadly are not armored, which is why IEDs are so deadly.

I don't think there's much honor in serving in Iraq or Afghanistan anymore. The wars have destabilized the region, making it a breeding ground for exactly the type of people they came there to fight in the first place.

Afghanistan was not controlled by Al Qaeda. Afghanistan was/is controlled by by the Taliban which was sheltering Al-Qaeda; the Mujihideen which Bin Laden represented were sheltered there because of Bin Laden's good relationship with Mullah Omar. And America is not out of Iraq yet. If you left now, it would be utter chaos. The government's corrupt and even involved in the sectarian war (read: Shia death squads). At this point Saddam is irrelevant - The entire country is fucked up.

Albanian state did not exist until 1912. when the European powers created it so Serbia (a traditional Russian ally) would not get a sea exit. During the comunist times and the 5 century's of Turkish rule the (now predominantly Muslim) Albanians settled in Kosovo and Metohia region.

Due to better infrastructure of Kosovo (even then) the Albanians folded the province. During communism times they had a repressive regime of Enver Hodza in Albania which was a Soviet satellite state. Aldo Yugoslavia was a socialist state under the dictator Tito it was more developed and more free then Albania (in 1948, Tito actually had a rout with Stalin).

I did 22 months in Iraq in 2004-2005. My unit was approached by Blackwater for recruitment when we got off the plane in Kuwait. I never went but I wish I had. People forget that these guys signed up for this shit. Gov agencies and private companies hired these guys because they didnt have to go through the politics and crap that screws over the grunts on the ground. They get the job done, no newbs. They are the ones who do the dirty work and get blamed because it doesnt turn out 100% clean.

@zackmac1000 - that is not true. Generally, you gotta be a retired, a veteran of a war, 30% or greater disabled, or awarded a purple heart, silver star, or a few other medals.
Just being an honorably discharged veteran is not sufficient to warrant an Arlington burial. Because three of the four of these Blackwater guys were war veterans (Bosnia, Grenada, etc) they were eligible. Not sure about Scott Helvenston.

@m1up I would have to respectfully disagree. I'm a combat medic in the Army. On my first tour in Iraq I had two seperate occasions where I had wounded soldiers on the ground, but couldn't get a MEDEVAC because air was red (sandstorms cause low visibility and helos wont fly). Blackwater aircraft crews responded to our radio calls on both occasions, and flew in to get us, despite the weather conditions. To say ALL contractors are ruthless scum isnt fair. Scum wouldnt do what they did for us...

Alright, you self-righteous haters who have no respect. I do not agree with using mercenaries as death squads or in place of soldiers (some people believe Blackwater is operating in Pakistan), but that's no reason to spit on the deaths of the Blackwater agents. Sure, these former special operators or soldiers are probably smart people who could become doctors, businessmen, etc. but that doesn't mean it's so easy to transition back into "normal" civilian life, or stay there for that matter.

@TorturedXeno Many military jobs (data analyst, engineer, dental assistant, etc.) have well-paid civilian counterparts, and some people pursue careers related to what they did in the military and do very well for themselves. But what about these former special operators or ground soldiers who retire after many years of service? What are they supposed to do? Some of them become cops or instructors, others pursue more traditional careers like medicine or engineering.

I believe I sacrificed two tours for the Iraqis and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Iraq is a great country with great people and they deserve a government that wont behead them for speaking out. People need to quit putting such a bad rep on private security. Everyone that is in it, at one point was in another military branch. But you don't hear anybody talking shit about them at that point. Also, the money is really not that much different between a blackwater individual and a regular military individual. It cost the government a whole lot of money to house and maintain your regular military soldier. Private contractor just has more of a choice where his money goes.

At 2:55, does he realize that most of the actual military's vehicles aren't armored either? Police departments around the country donate the plates from their old SWAT vests to the military so they can armor the bottoms of the humvees. Most, sadly are not armored, which is why IEDs are so deadly.

Afghanistan was not controlled by Al Qaeda. Afghanistan was/is controlled by by the Taliban which was sheltering Al-Qaeda; the Mujihideen which Bin Laden represented were sheltered there because of Bin Laden's good relationship with Mullah Omar. And America is not out of Iraq yet. If you left now, it would be utter chaos. The government's corrupt and even involved in the sectarian war (read: Shia death squads). At this point Saddam is irrelevant - The entire country is fucked up.

@fireball676 Well its simple really, Kosovo was always Serbian land its the land of our first states and we have dozens of 7, 8, 9 century's old monastery's to prove it. Albanian state did not exist until 1912. when the European powers created it so Serbia (a traditional Russian ally) would not get a sea exit. During the comunist times and the 5 century's of Turkish rule the (now predominantly Muslim) Albanians settled in Kosovo and Metohia region.

Due to better infrastructure of Kosovo (even then) the Albanians folded the province. During communism times they had a repressive regime of Enver Hodza in Albania which was a Soviet satellite state. Aldo Yugoslavia was a socialist state under the dictator Tito it was more developed and more free then Albania (in 1948, Tito actually had a rout with Stalin).

I did 22 months in Iraq in 2004-2005. My unit was approached by Blackwater for recruitment when we got off the plane in Kuwait. I never went but I wish I had. People forget that these guys signed up for this shit. Gov agencies and private companies hired these guys because they didnt have to go through the politics and crap that screws over the grunts on the ground. They get the job done, no newbs. They are the ones who do the dirty work and get blamed because it doesnt turn out 100% clean.

Everyone in this situation and in general only cares about the wellbeing of their family and loved ones. We'll do anything to make enough to support our families for generations. This family should ask how much their son was making to do his job, they will find the reward was related to the risk. The employees of Blackwater (a.k.a Xe) make tens of thousands per month, there is a reason for that and it's not their experience.

Mike teague: 12-year Army veteran, received a Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan, served in Panama and Grenada

@zackmac1000 - that is not true. Generally, you gotta be a retired, a veteran of a war, 30% or greater disabled, or awarded a purple heart, silver star, or a few other medals.
Just being an honorably discharged veteran is not sufficient to warrant an Arlington burial. Because three of the four of these Blackwater guys were war veterans (Bosnia, Grenada, etc) they were eligible. Not sure about Scott Helvenston.

Truth is, they all should've got it, because they were all vets of wars or conflicts as you just stated. Also, when I made my comment, by "if you serve" I meant in a war. @chimproller It really is a shame when it boils down to it. I'm in Fallujah right now. The other day, we were doing dismounted patrols and we had to cross the bridge where all this took place. Just gave you an eerie feeling..A few years ago, they put up a plaque dedicated to the four men..looked like the locals tore it down a long time ago. Right or wrong, Merc or Soldier, they were Americans :(

@m1up I would have to respectfully disagree. I'm a combat medic in the Army. On my first tour in Iraq I had two seperate occasions where I had wounded soldiers on the ground, but couldn't get a MEDEVAC because air was red (sandstorms cause low visibility and helos wont fly). Blackwater aircraft crews responded to our radio calls on both occasions, and flew in to get us, despite the weather conditions. To say ALL contractors are ruthless scum isnt fair. Scum wouldnt do what they did for us...

@badass7074 These men died because they were mercs. They were not serving their country. They were serving corporate interests. There's a big difference. The ambush that lead too their deaths is something they could have avoided. The mission they were on was not vital too anything, but putting $ in the pockets of their employers. If you do some actual reading on the subject, you quickly learn that these mercs groups r a major problem.

I really doubt that your son Scott would want you siting here complaining about how he died and what he did for a living. he was a US NAVY Seal. Im sure he knew exactly what he was doing when he signed his contract. War is hell. when your a soldier you have to deal with the fact that sometimes your not going to have the support you need to get your job done and you have to live with that fact that in a sense you are expendable but i don't think Scott's buddy's and boss's did not care about him.
