Ok i have a problem!!! i tried everything took it apart etc. so i decided to replace the whole cd drive with another one from a red ringed xbox and once i put that one in it read the disk but then!!!!! it disconnects me from xbox live as if i were getting an update and then kicks me right back to the Dashboard. This is Pretty damn weird to me and i was wondering if anyone of you NAGGERS could help.

i kicked my tray when i realized it was not working. now i try to repair it and made it worst because i thought it was the gear. it wont close and the lens wont start up. i went from point A to point negative 2. please.:( i dont think all these disc cleaning errors will work but i will give it a try. i think it has something to deal with the gears though.

ABSOLUTELY NEVER EVER TURN THE DRIVER ADJUSTMENT SCREWS WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT THE PRESENT SETTINGS ARE.

You need a multimeter that measure milivolts / miliamps, and to adjust the settings without one your going to chance overloading & sending to much power to the laser, overheating it and shorting its life span considerably.

You may say "well it's not working anyway" but if it needs more laser light then it's lenses are dirty.

The lens you can see is NOT the laser

K my xbox can read and play all my games like a champ, but when i try putting in new games, it says open tray or it plays and says the disc is unreadable at a random time. i exchanged 3 copies of lost planet 2 and got the same issue. no scratches on the discs. is this disc drive related? or am i going to have to get a new xbox? its an original model thats 4 years old.

i personally hate messing with lasers, there is no point of no return once you hit 360 it restarts, tbh its usually easier to just replace the laser if you cant get it going after a little

you cant tell what kind of drive you have by the model, you 60g could have any of the four drives that where made for fats, only way to know is open it up

@thedopesoner930 well i did open it up and it's a phillips and lite on drive. i opened it up and the lazer wasn't in the back so that's not the problem and i only found one screw on there and tightend it and it still didn't do anything. any advice?

replacing the laser will probably be easier otherwise you will have to buy all the flashing hardware or take it to someone since you have a liteon
