  • What kinda if paper? Can it be cardboard?

  • where can i get that kind of paper? can i use normal paper?

  • @ShaeChannel3 Hi there, I got a pad of it from a bargain store but I haven't seen it anywhere else.

I would recommend using a glossy card instead as the wax eventually left an oily mark.

Or you could try sealing canvas/ paper with a varnish first. I mean to try this sometime.

  • That first one with all the colors is absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to try this. I knew I saved crayons for a reason!

  • @That70sHeidi Thanks Heidi have fun experimenting

  • what is this song called? Also, I love this and I am going to try it!

  • @MissSuperMiss Hi There, the music is by Alice and the Majesty, Dolly Figured.

I used to have PM Dawn's Norwegian Wood which is also a great song. but wasn't licensed by Youtube, somehow now there is a link to PM Dawn instead of Alice and the Majesty.

  • one time all my crayons melted in my dads car. the were in my book bag too. never used that book bag again

  • My crayons melted in my grandma's trunk, all on my barbie coloring books when I was four or five. It was really sad. Sacramento can get pretty hot over the summer.

  • I love this

where can i get a heat gun?

can i use a hair blow dryer instead?

  • @quotationmarks A hair dryer wouldn't get got enough.

Craft stores which sell papercraft and stamping supplies have them. Usually used for melting embossing powder when stamping.

I have seen them at hardware stores too for stripping paint but they may be too hot for wax which can catch fire. So be careful if you use one of those.

  • @quotationmarks I do this same exact thing at home and i use a hair dryer. takes a little bit longer than a heat gun but works just as good

  • Really enjoyed this. Did you use a high quality water color paper for this? Also, i'm wondering how the wax stuck over time. Any trouble with the wax separating from the paper? I've messed around with melting crayon a little, but it hasn't looked this good. Nice job.

  • I used canvas paper (sheets of canvas in a block for drawing / painting). Over time an oily residue has seeped into the paper. It is quite brittle and you need to be careful with it a couple of pieces have broken off.

Sometime ago I googled encaustic art with irons and waxes and they use a coated semigloss card that would likely work better for longevity.

As this was an art experiment I wasn't too worried about keeping it but perhaps sealing paper with a matt or gloss spray varnish would help.

  • Thank you Playing with Crayons ..PM dawn are one the Few Rap Rock& R&B (True Fusion) groups to really define an era and a feeling. Man I miss that

  • beautiful, simply artistic.

  • WOAH very simple yet soooo cool idea!

  • I loved this! I do true encaustics, but this was fun and I am going to definitely do it.

  • I dig the ability to texturize. Nice thoughts going on here.

  • I like the music, bit too much blue crayon for me though... exhaust the reds.

  • thanks!

  • I'll admit, I came to see this video for the PM Dawn song, but the artwork was a true delight. :)

  • Thanks! P.M. Dawn are still one of my favourites after all these years.

  • There is another more compressed version of this in my videos if like me you have a slow connection and this stops and starts for you. This one is nicer to look at if you have time to wait though!!

  • Very creative and I'm a P.M.Dawn fan (I was actually surfing for P.M.Dawn videos). I think you picked a great song to illustrate your talent, speaking as a fellow artist. Don't give up! You'll be surprised how famous and pricey your artwork will get in time.
