This is why the kindle can't really compete with this devices, just look how beautiful they are! Someone could make the case that e-ink technology isn't really mass market ready yet (that blinking flash is really annoying) and that the sole reason they're selling anything is because people REALLY want digitalized books but if there is any manufacturer that is bringing this technology to some acceptable level is sony. On top of that, physical keyboard kindle? Really?
The demonstrator sounds like he's been demonstrating it all day - mildly exasperated with the ingenu reporter with a never-ending stream of questions.
But that's what makes this video so good, he just ignores everything and carries on asking regardless.
This video is really amazing. It is an indepth review of a ebook reader. and after watching this video, i have decided to buy prs650. really good video.
Is there a way to disable or lock the touch screen feature? I have one of these ereaders and it is really annoying me that when I'm reading it is so small and the borders so thing that it is almost impossible not to -accidentally- touch the screen and change the page...
@Acornoa Not directly. Amazon refuses to sell books for use on any ereader but their own, but you can buy the book via their Kindle For PC app, then break the DRM using a program called 'unskindle', then it will work just fine on the Sony readers.
I wonder if i can download and install a spanish dictionary and make it work just like the preinstalled english dicitionaries do so i could search for word´s spanish meaning?
is the glare "really", i mean "REALLY" gone? 'cause i had a 600 and read a lot of people saying "the glare from the 700 is gone"... which could even be true, the 700 had one glare, and the 600 had another... but does the 650 HAVE ANY GLARE??? i mean, compared to the kindle's screen, how does it fair?
@RedRedOC do you or have you ever owned a prs-600? have you ever owned another non-touch-screen reader? have you tried or owned a kindle with the pearl screen (or for that matter even gen2) since kindles are constantly regarded as maybe not the best hardware, but the best screen? 'cause the glare with the 600 didn't make it unreadable, but made me want to sell it for smtg else...
I still ahve my PRS 600 and the older 700. I've also owned the original 505. My brother has the new kindle and I've played with it. The pearl screens are the same on the 650 and the new kindle. Crisp and very readable.
The 600 and 750 were glary but still ok. I never really had much to complain about with those two - until I started using the 650. Now I could really tell the difference. My wife still uses my 700 because she like the backlight. She loves it!
Is it worth upgrading from a PRS 600 to this? the only real advantage seems to be a de-glossed screen - which seems to be a double edged sword as it can also lead to scratches - other then that it seems identical to the 600.
@AstronomyGuru1 yeah no, i preordered it already but its not coming out until sept 24th in canada, earliest, and the sony store here told me they wont get it in stock in storefor another 6-8 weeks, wth?
Got one yesterday. Very well made device with excellent functionability. Love the in built dictionary. Screen is actually easier to see in low light than a real book! Very happy with my purchase :)
@ThePhatIndian, I'm aware of that but what I'm worried about is if they have put that feature in at the expense of removing the PDF reflow feature. I hardly ever needed to zoom my PDF's on the 600 so I won't buy this new model till I know it has that feature too.
Great video. I agree with ThePhatIndian - you definitely asked the right questions.
I'm curious about what the Sony rep says around 3:40. I wonder why Sony keeps advertising the annotation export to pc considering that it only can be done with non-DRM protected books. Kind of a bummer and I'm trying to decide if that is enough to sway me from buying a Sony reader over the new K3.
@hopkinsenglish The Sony rep said that DRM'ed books have the ability to export notes, but that the feature could be locked by certain publishers for copyright reasons.
Sounds reasonable to me. I'm definitely leaning towards the 650 versus the Kindle 3, but I easily see people going the other way considering the price difference between the two.
Great video, very informative. You ask the right questions and have enough expertise to show us enthusiasts what we really want to see. I want to buy this now.
- and if I touch with my fat finger does it make it fat ?
-No
How could you think about that question =D It made me laugh

Drove me nuts just listening to his constant questions. A 10 inch cresent wrench to the temple wouldn't be over reacting. ♥

Should I buy the "premium cover" for the 650? Will I be using it? Because it's kinda expensive at $40

@yanie3000 £199 in the uk so it will be cheeper then the 600s were (£230+). Though I think it will be cheeper in the US.
