  • why do they sound like Yang Wei only won because other ppl fell/the games was held in his home country?

hell ,he beat kohei uchimura! and Yang has won countless AA gold medals over the years (notwithstanding silver in 2000 Olympics) - this is a testimony to his abilities, powers and legacies, not because 'it wasn't a great competition at all'!

  • Not messing up is part of top competition -- i.e., performing your best under pressure when it counts the most...

  • Poor Tomita, they mention only his mistake and they even mix him up with teammate uchimura on picture =(

  • i like how they got a picture of kohei uchimura when she says hiroyuki tomita

  • i think able to keep your standard is more difficult than trying to bring yourself to a higher level. Hence, I think Yang Wei won pretty worthily. The stars weren't able to keep their standards, and that's why they lost.

  • why does the female reporter make it sound like Yang Wei only won because it was help in China? He's worked his whole life for all around gold

  • Haha AP 1:15 is Uchimura not Tomita...I still remember his absolutely frightening tumble off the rings, though.

Bart is pretty right on with his commentary.

  • any competition is about "who dosn't mess up" in any performance sport. It's sad, but it's true.

  • true. in most top level competitions, especially those that are judged, most individuals have the ability to rank, its just the ones that execute correctly that do.

  • This year's olympic was the best! I had great memories watching it.

  • Wei is a beast!

  • Yang Wei is a machine. He's so amazing. That guy on the horse is KOHEI UCHIMURA.

  • they talk about tomita and show uchimura instead lol

  • it would be good if there was a vid of gymnastics instead of pics

  • i hate it when they pronounce the names wrong, especially japanese, chinese and korean, fyi, AP, yang wei is pronounced y-a-ang wei, NOT y-a-nng wei

  • Yang Wei is just incredible. Just think about this: he competed on five events at the team finals and then competed all-around about 24 hours later.

  • Thats not hiroyuki tomita at 1:16 its Kohei Uchimura

  • YANG WEI deserves to win that medal. he waited 8 long years for that

  • really

  • This is a typical American report. They keep making excuses if they lose but if they win they'll tell you how phenomenal they're supposedly were. And I'm not Chinese or American, so don't bitch on me.

  • for a while some people were thinking he was dating Cheng Fei but it's not true cause he's engaged with an ex gymnastis chick

  • and that's yang Yun. theyre plaaning to marry in sanya this nov. i so wish i was there!

  • man, i have never seen such a talented young man before! so athletic yet humble and funny! he's so cute too! yang wei, china loves you! bring back more gold in 2012!

  • just to tell u yang wei is never coming back he is retired or else he would get really heart that is how paul got heart because he waz to old!

  • nope, he isnt retiring so soon, xiaopeng and huang xu are, their last stop will be this years china nat. games. yang wei, shud appear in guangzhou 2010 and his coach has high hopes for him until 2016. so yang wei will be still kicking butt in the business

  • he just officially announced his retirement a couple days ago

  • Chen Yibin withdraw shortly after the all-around competition. Why did Yang need to cheer for him?

  • i loves yang wei!! gawd he's so handsome!

  • lol. I think so too! he is really funny too.

  • I've always been upset with the way the NBC network does its coverage of the Olympics... they need to make it more of the WORLD Olympics and not just USA teams and such.. show us all the top 10 performances good or bad.. they are the top 10! also show the FULL opening of the Olympics if there is any skin showing in the people doing the show they cut it out ... so sad.. censorship alive and well in NBC TV! and USA TV stinks....

  • Yang Wei did absolutely amazing, and no age controversy over this. I think NBC should have focused more on men's gymnastics.

  • I Love Yang WEI!!!!!!

  • yang weiiii <3333

    ^.^

  • yang wei is very yummy.

  • a golden asswhole as well, right?

  • i like him,he's always so calm, and has perfect technique

  • Also, thanks to the Associated Press for posting this on youtube!

  • I felt really bad for Germany's Hambuchen, but he did a better job the second time around. On the other hand, Yang Wei is China's pride and I think it's really cool how he's always so calm and collected whenever he competed. And I don't think I ever saw him smile until he won that gold medal. GO CHINA!

  • I fucking lol'd when the german and the japan felt.. but the japan won silver :D, and ya Yang Wei is hawt

  • Japan lost

  • Japan?

  • No. I know that Yang Wei is Chinese. it's just that I had to congratulate the Japanese for winning silver since they congratulated us.

  • he has a nice body lol

  • He wasn't arrogant at all, i find it quite endearing really, the normally reserved guy can finally relax and soak in the cheers, after all the hard years of training

  • ah, now he can happily marry his lady love , I saw a documentary that he keeps his marriage plans on hold to prepare for the Olympics ...good for him

  • man this guy rocks

  • If I won a GOLD medal, I would run into the stands and jump everywhere lol.

  • I was rootin' for my Canadian boys but I have to admit I was pretty impressed with the Asian gymnasts esp. Yang Wei.

  • Yang Wei was just happy, excuse him for show boating. He is usually more refined, cool, calm, and collected when it comes to his reactions and emotions. It was on his home turf and he rightfully won that individual gold.

Congrats, to Yang Wei for his team gold and individual gold.

Also so congrats, to Kohei Uchimura for his team silver and individual silver.

On another note they are both pretty attractive and I'm happy for them both and their teams.

  • Wei should've looked said, "That's how we roll!"

  • what the hell are you talking about? he is emtionless compared to others, who scream and make gestures at the camera. That ear cupping was nothing compared to how good he actually is, petty idiot.

  • WTF????

for a chinese athlete maybe but compared to all of the american athletes ive seen, he's not even close. he's the best plain and simple and he's tryna enjoy the moment

  • He worked his ass off for his medal and deserved all the cheers he received. He was much more reserved than the other athletes were when being praised. Getting that gold medal seemed like a trigger that let him relax. He doesn't seem arrogant at all.

  • I bet You'll Do that if You Got the Olypim Gold Medal Right? Dont Judge Him Hes A Hero for China in the Olympic Games!

  • yang wei finished a very very close 2nd to nemov in 2000. Im so glad he dint retire after athens. I wouldnt blame him if he did. The chinese crowd cheered very loud for fabian and artemev as well as horton on high bar and even tomita after his recovery on the rings. Personally, i wanted Yang Wei to get gold, Fabian to get silver and Tomita to get 3rd.

I also cant believe nbc didnt show Chen Yibings ring routine =\

  • congratulations to yang wei! =]

  • ARE U KIDDING ME??!! the chinese fans cheered for everyone! obviously alot more for their own country.

  • China and Japan had a long-held grudge against each other.

From what I noticed, if the athlete's really good, the Chinese crows will cheer. For example, I heard lots of cheers fo the US Basketball team and Shawn Johnson... and quiet a lot for other teams during gymnastics.

  • lol u didnt even watch it, they were cheering like crazy for the german kids

  • STFU, he won plain n simple

obviously he gets a lil more crowd cuz its HIS HOME CROWD. even with that said the chinese crowd cheered for everyone

  • And why should they not roar for the Chinese? This Olympics is held in Beijing after all. You have no reason to fault the Chinese people for cheering the loudest for their own people in their own land. Furthermore, how qualified are you to judge the charisma of Yang Wei's person? Do you KNOW him in person? I believe all the gymnasts were heroes that day, no matter if it was Yang Wei or Hambuechen.

  • you probably didn't notice, but yang wei cheered for hambuechen.

  • not in this video but in the olympic coverage.

  • No,he didn't. He was cheering for Yibing, who is his teammate on the high bar. The NBC person misunderstood him. Believe me, I am from China and I watched that part of the video. lol.

  • well, good for him, 'cause yibing was amazing as well lol. but yeah, nbc's bad. haha.

  • I looked up Yang Wei stats because I find him strangely attractive. He's 5'2" and 119. That made me so depressed, I'm a girl, the same height, and he weighs less than me...=(

  • all the gymnasts looks defined, and amazingly well built in terms of proportions, but they must have small stature and height to excel, even the caucasian countries pick out small guys

  • jonathan horton seemed so cocky yesterday.

  • and the one in the video isn't Tomita, that's Kohei!

  • Thanks, for saying that. I was thinking the same thing, that's not Hiroyuki Tomita, it's Kohei Uchimura!

    Glad someone knows the difference...

  • Yang Wei was freaking amazing yesterday. WOW! I felt bad for Germany's Fabian who fell in his last event and Tomita during the rings. :(

  • omg, when i saw him slip from the rings, I was like oh sh*t literally; i hate it when things like that happen to gymnasts

  • That rings routine was cringe worthy. OMG they kept playing it over and over again.

  • the Chinese did the best out of every1 there in my opinion. and usa dint do as good as i though i expected a lil bit more from them maybe a silver or bronze..but nothing
