  • this pedal is a must for any drum and guitar duo's rig.

  • why does the volume keep going in and out?

  • PLEASE MZ800 SOUNDTRACKS WITH THIS

  • PLAY THE UNDERGROUND PIPE THEME .. FOR THE SAKE OF MARIO .. PLAY IT!!!!

  • it's kinda old atari games in '90's.

  • nintendo box *-* me likes it lol

  • Jimmy Page used it on Fool in the Rain

  • im gonna get this and do a demo playing the donkey kong theme

  • great demo!! I love this pedal!!!

  • any difference between this one and the block logo ¿?

  • im selling my MXR Blue Box Script logo on gumtree for £35 including postage or £30 to meet up in London

London Gumtree ad number 75802800 (put the numbe in gumtree search)

  • It doesn't have the band of gypsies sound at all!

  • sounds like an 80s arcade machine

  • this thing is so sweet, I want it bad.

  • this baby handles the chords tracking with acurracy?

  • if i stick that shit with MT-2,that metal sound would be better ?

  • this is how a demo should be done

  • just bought one of those, probably be up pretty late messing around with it

  • what is the effect on 5:30 ? sounds great. electronic, quite a lot.

  • This pedal is awesome :@

  • no offense but the sweeping was uber fail, other than that great playing!

  • Nice playing! And nice demo!

  • Dude...join the mxr phase 90 and it would be PERFECT

  • lol sounds like super mario

  • just got one for $40

  • hey can i get john mayer kind of guitar sound?

  • can you get a normal fuzz tone out of it aswell as the octave changing effect, im thinking about getting for fo its crazy effects but also to use as a simple fuzz

  • one of the sickest pedals in my arsenal, try combining with Line6 FM4 filter modeler for unlimited shitstorm noise capability.

  • @drone713 It's an effect guitar players use to extend the sound palette of their guitar.

Or to put it in words you can understand: It's blue.

  • @drone713 Yeah, it can be cool to use that effect for certain things. It's not a type of pedal you'd use all the time.

Dinosaur Jr used a blue box on and off on some songs, very cool :)

  • @skurtix jjaja FUCK YEAH DUDE _|m|

  • @funkybuddha15 blue orchid for sure.

  • Used on Fool in the Rain solo by Led Zep.

  • Sounds like a retro game sound LOL. . like old school sega megadrive.

  • can you guys help me? what is better this mxr blue box or the ehx oct. multiplexer?

  • It all depends on what you need.

I have the EHX Octave Multiplexer, I love it.

It is clean (no fuzz) and can be adjusted to achieve some pretty sweet tones - natural to otherworldly.

The Blue Box has some charms of its own. It is very fuzzy and synthetic sounding. However, I find it is limited in controls and applications. I plan on building a clone very soon, just to have it around in my studio.

  • @fruhotchiliman get the boss HR-2 and live happy ever after . trust me you will thank me for doing so .

  • sounds really jack white esque

  • apparently matt bellamy uses one of these?

  • Yes, in MK Ultra. Gives it that awesome synthy sound, I want one :D

  • i really gotta get one. definitely my next christmas gift. i really dig synth tones but i dont work well with keyboards and guitar synths are expensive so before i can get anything else im sticking to this

  • this is awesome, it's now in contention with a digitech whammy for my next pedal. Any opinions?

  • the digitech whammy can do way more of the octave sounds but it has no fuzz. but both of these pedals are "try before you buy"

  • Wow! Never paid attention to this box, it sounds great! Square wave of an analog synth! I'll go check it out at my music store. Thanks for posting!

  • A misfit classic - still, in my opinion, probably the best reason to crab a MXR pedal.

  • um this just sounds like a really old synth to me on like a triangle wave lol

  • its sounds like super-mario soundtrack

  • and it should be Nintendo from hell when combined with the Big Muff

  • Hahaha it sounds like a broken Nintendo and that's why it's friggin' awesome.

  • xaxaax

  • ...is it meant to sound like nintendo soundtrack?

    cool, i guess...

  • Could I avoid fuzzing(overdriving) signal? I'd like to get pitch like with bass guitar, but i'd like to still be on clean.

  • no, that is part of the sound. buy a boss oc2 or a micro pog for that.

  • The best pedal for a full warm bass sound is probably a Digitech Whammy.

Don't doubt it because it's digital: SO IS THE MICROPOG!

  • an octave multiplexer by EHX does pretty much that. It has a clean down and dirty down option to avoid or add fuzz.

  • @WingedS777

you could probably mod it, but it would be easier to get something else.

  • @WingedS777 you can turn the knob all the way to the left, and there will be little discernible fuzz left, although you certainly wouldnt want to buy this to turn your guitar into a bass.

  • 4:43 - 5:05 :D

  • the coolest pedal

  • This pedal is pretty bitchin'. I think I like it even better when the other pedals are added to it.

  • i just got my blue box a week ago. i love it BUT when i click it its not as or louder then it on clean

  • change the battery?XP No, really, mxr's are usually really though, have it checked.

  • thanks dude i got it to work!! sounds great

  • how? :D

  • i got a footpedal board with supply cables

  • I like when you tap...it sounds like an 8-bit van halen!

  • that is sick

  • if the volume cuts out fast, use a pre amp on your chain.

  • dude is it just me or does it have a slow attack and the volume swells down really quickly?

  • It's the noise gate.

  • Wow I just had a flash back to 1991 playing Super Mario Bros.

  • I guess after hearing it again its not too bad, but I'd like to hear it with the bridge pick up. And maybe a demo riff of a song that uses it.

  • Buy a DigiTech Rp250 and make the same sound this pedal does, plus more. Just my opinion.

  • but that is digital, this is analog which means itll sound much richer and fuller :)

digital is a solid state amp and analog is a tube amp :)

  • Hahah, like "Don't get technical with all this digital - analog mumbo jumbo gumbo!"

    Hahaha!

  • hahaha, I love this

  • solid state is analog as well. That said, I agree that an analog octaver such as the Blue Box will sound much fatter and warmer than a digital replication.

  • multi effects processors suck. way too digital

  • i disagree but agree same time :{ i have the echo and mod pro and dl4 by line 6 and u cant get a better sound but when its all enclosed with everything in one like the xt pro each effect tales of like you say man gotta get this ped though :D

  • is there a difference between the block logo and the script logo?

  • yes, its a completely differnet sound. the block is new and the script is old. but they are using the scrip on some of there new stuff that they are trying to make to vintage specs

  • im getting you. lol. and making gameboy music hahaha

  • You know, some people are looking for this kind of tone. I wouldn't be so quick to use warm natural tones as a standard for things. that's kind of narrowminded.

  • Sounds like a freakin synth, not a guitar, total crap sound !

  • this can be very useful!!!! these tones are great for little parts of songs to make them more interesting. i wouldnt use one for a whole song but for little parts of it they are really cool

  • im thinking of buying this pedal, but can it give good hendrix tone? cos im gonna sell my big muff pi for this. help?

  • It's an octave down pedal , it won't give you good hendrix tone , buy a Fuzz Face for a good Hendrix tone ,or keep your muff.

  • buy a hendrix dunlop fuzzface or hendrix dunlop octavia fuzz.

  • AntonOortmann

No Im not some dude paid by Boss ;-)

I like to just inform people of their options.

  • jimmy page use this pedal in "no Quarter"

  • fool in the rain

  • good review of a stupid pedal

  • I thought about getting one of these but got something else instead

I really hate to name other brands in alternate brand demos but I have the Boss OC-3 Super Octave.

It has single or Double octave option or can have both.

Plus has its own built in distortion.

Add to that it is also Polyphonic which means ya can get Octaves on Power Chords etc and not just single note riffs.

  • Comment removed

  • But keep in mind that the OC-3 is a digital unit and thus not really comparable to the Blue Box... They are worlds apart so to speak.

  • Yeah I have noticed some latency in its response at times.

  • I just got one of these and is sounded great, when it actually played. It pretty much decided when it wanted to play or not. I see this one and a lot of other ones have a script logo; mine has a block logo. Is there a difference between the two?

  • Just bought one, tis on its way!

  • Play us the Mario theme song how bout it?

  • This sounds like it has great tracking. I've heard that this bad tracking.

I think I'm getting one of these.

  • Uh...Nintendo Anyone? I think I need one.

  • I really want one!!

    (@_@)

  • u ain't lying...

  • just like out of a video game!

  • Would a harmonica sound good through this?

  • A similar question, would a dying cow sound good through this?

I think that answers your question, all the fuzz might sound particularly good on harmonica but you can feel free to try.

  • Man buy one and make a demo, if it doesn't sound good it will at least be interesting

  • Wow, this looks like an awesome waste of cash! :D

  • i love to waste $ this way!

  • the only problem with these pedals is the god awful gating

tracking is still better than the boss oc-2

  • I bought one and it just sounded really glitchy and messed up. Anybody know why that might have happened?

  • did you play chords? you can play only single notes and ya shld strum other strings

  • anyway thanks for this demo. it sounds really cool. i'm buying one, it'll be my 2nd octaver. i used GLX(boss copy) and it seemed to be not that good!

  • not an idiot here. i know that.

  • dont be a dick, it was a legitimate response. the glitchiness is what some people love about the pedal. its problably either that youre trying to sustain too much, or that youre not driving it hard enough.

  • I'm not trying to be a dick.

  • ok, well this pedal getsspitty when a note is about to die, so if you drive it harder, monophonic lines will be smoother

  • Yeah driving it more actually did work, so thanks man.

  • holy fuck i want one of those

  • sounds like a synth

  • i love it!sounds amazing very unique!

  • That thing is perfect for industrial. Somebody should send one of these to Robin Finck.

  • you really help me man!

    thanks!

    i sub'ed!

    Maks; )

  • play super mario!

  • I wonder what arpeggios would sound like with this

  • I agree w/ Dooderson, if you have any chops and a little imagination, it can be a very fun and inspiring little box. Understandably though, its not for everyone. I dig it a whole lot :)

  • How can anyone say that this pedal is useless? It sounds awesome! It sounds like Nintendo--how cool is that?!?!

  • look up derek miller i think he uses one of these

  • First setting sounds like Nebula's "Beyond" intro.

  • it sounds pretty cool but when would you ever use it.

  • If you were creative, you could use it whenever the fuck you want.

  • i think this pedal must be used in diminished scale more,

it sounds creepy but i love it

  • if you want to hear what this pedal can really do listen to Pat Travers

  • shit... my aunt once stepped on her hamster... that remembered me of that...

  • the tone of the blend on full makes me want to punch kittens

  • yes, I always wanted my music to sound like 8 bit video game and be a big star and finally i get the fine 8BIT sound, that has nothing to do with hardware, just effekts like this and bitchusher i hake lots of money. thanx!!!!!

  • I ment:"I make lots of honey."

  • Fool In the Rain Solo

  • these are the worst possible settings! this pedal is fucking great - just listen to some SONIC YOUTH records (after 1999) THURSTON MOORE uses that a lot.....

  • I don't know why anyone would want that unless they were in a 8bit tribute band.

  • Man...what did you say now...LOL......

  • it sounds like a nintendo on crack!

    I LUV IT!

  • Is that the pedal or the guitar cutting out?

  • the pedal, it has a built in noise gate

  • Can anyone actually find a musical use for this pedal? I sure can´t. It´s like the music you get from an 8-bit game.

  • so therefor those who are trying to express emotion through nintendo soundtrack would find this useful

  • I got one coming in the mail tomorrow.

    Can't wait.

Thanks for the good demo....some of the demos out there are not much help.

  • you mean 8-bit?

  • i want one but no1 in my town stocks them. ebay here i come :)

  • I also get volume drop with single coils =(

  • fool in the rain

  • this pedal is beastly

  • uh, your not serious are you?

  • you're very funny man.

  • awesome almost synth like tone. and quite a bargain too.

  • this pedal is fucking sweet

  • this pedal is very underrated

  • this is so sweet and its really cheap
