Stephen Morris' machine-like drumming is amazing, and so are both guitars; they repeat the same thing over and over but never get tired and never lose the rhythm. Nowadays no band can produce such a constant ongoing sound like that, they use bloody computers and synchronisers for for anything that's too difficult to play manually...
R.I.P Ian and well done Joy Division for all the great work you've brought into this world.
it amazes me how Ian is dancing around like a lunatic yet the crowd at the front are just...stood there, I think I would have felt the need to dance like that myself...
yeah, all video's back then are like that. Just look a concerts of Zeppelin, Sabbath, the Stones, Joy Division, people didn't figure they could dance at concerts until sometime in the 80's
1979, BBC, 'Something Else' - The Jam were on the same show ... just before The Buzzcocks tour and then the album Closer, followed by the pretty rapid decline of IC on 18th, May, 1980
Ah, thanks. It's so odd because I was and am a fan of The Jam and Buzzcocks back then but never heard anything from Joy Division. Could have been the fact I was living in Texas maybe :)
@dragoon84 in the film "24 hours party people" rob gretton's first line (played by paddy condislne) was "it doesn't want to come back, it wants to go away so it can becoem a legend." the people who were at this performance may not have cared then, but im 100% sure they will never forget it now
I LOVE YOU IAN <3 R.I.P.

I tell you, no one could pull off those kind of moves unless they were utterly sincere; and Ian ultimately demonstrated he was.

I wonder if that crowd understood just how fucking privileged they were to be watching Joy Division live, in that time, in that place.
Lucky bastards.

When was this video made? He's amazing.. the band is as a whole, of course, though naturally he is a stand-out for his uniqueness.
