In nature, once age catches and one is too sick or weak to carry on, animal or human, it dies off a lot quicker than in civilization. A lioness instinctively kills off its weak or sick offspring very shortly after birth. In civilization, we take care of the old and sick.
The lion was banished from his pride by a younger, stronger lion and he was left to wander as a scavenger. His teeth were breaking and were worn down so much and he was losing them. He couldn't even chew. He starved and his tail rotted off. He returned to his old pride lands and he died in front of his family. A few lions came up afterward and sniffed his body. If a larger 1 does they are scared away. No need to rub their smell on...plus, the smell of a dead corpse would pretty much out smell them in the event they would stash it.

@albedoshader Y they are eating it, soon there will be no carcass. Hyenas don't stash bodies somewhere, they just eat them there. If a smaller animal comes to eat, they scare it away, or hunt it. If a larger 1 does they are scared away. No need to rub their smell on...plus, the smell of a dead corpse would pretty much out smell them in the event they would stash it.

@Zafoshin Animals have some of the same emotions as humans,they have fear,hate,dispair, & even experience joy. I remember the narrator even saying that the hyenas were displaying contempt for their most hated enemy the lion,then as a final display of contempt,they ate his carcass.

Cats and dogs were believed to be hated enemies once upon a time. But we see many pets of these races peacefully coexisting. That teaches us, that animals do not feel any hate, but just do what they need to survive. In addition, I can present to u a race that does kill for fun/hate/mental coditions, whatever. Humans.

i've seen this actual.y documentary. the lion was an old male that was strugglin to survive. the poor animals tale was rotting off as a result of old age and lack of food. if you look at it you can see the ribs. the poor thing could barely walk and it just collapeds and died
