You inspired me really bad so I was like, "I wanna make a costume now" well, I have no foam or any costume materials really. o.o I ended up making a paper lugia head and taped the second peice (which was the jaw) to my face so it would "move." xD I wore it for like a half hour and then got sad and wanted foam. v.v

@SailorJupiter07 Have a belt-loop attached to the base of the tail inside the costume. This way you can wear a belt around your waist so your body is taking the weight and not the fabric. It'll also be more responsive to your hip movements.

@jessell77 I will soon be offering costume commissions for others, perhaps sometime this summer. Currently the starting price for a head is $200 and +$50 for a moving jaw. + Shipping. Most professional heads are around $500-$1000+ so this is probably the cheapest you'll find at my level of quality. Costume making is an expensive and time-consuming hobby ^^

It's upholstery foam. Not styrofoam. Not floral foam. Upholstery foam is used to make chair cushions. The green type I use is a higher density and more expensive, but you can go with the normal offwhite/creme color.

all i have left to do on luxray is add more foam to the shoulder to make the spikes, the chest, and add foam to the butt so it has the spikes then i just need to fur the body (including the back legs.

where do you get that kind of foam, what's it called, and how do you carve it?

This question is answered in my materials guide video and feetpaws tutorial, but I'll answer it anyways:

The foam I use is a high density polyurethane foam, used for chair cushions, and I get it at fabric/craft stores such as Jo~Anns, Hancocks, and Hobby Lobby.

To cut it, you can use an electric kitchen knife, scissors, box cutter, or exacto knife. I draw a shape with marker and use the electric knife to cut it. Then I round out the shape/smooth it/do finer detail work with the scissors.

Yeeeah, you and me both. I'm worried about getting it done... The sewing machine is ancient but it has always severed me well until now. I bought replacement parts but it might take two weeks to get here! We're gonna borrow Ani's grandmother's sewing machine on Monday but we've both never used it before soooo, we'll see. I wish I didn't have my sister's high school graduation and the Boulder Boulder marathon next week, it would make this all so much easier.
