@sancti78 At the time this was recorded, he was going under the name of Jack Jones. These days, he uses his real name - Irwin Thomas. Either way, great voice!
To clarify something - and maybe settle the comments in my inbox - I never said anything about this specific clip or who was in it, simply that Virgil is a drummer not a keyboard player... Calm yourselves people I wasnt disagreeing with you on this!!! :-)
@OzzieKezzie - Hi. The keyboards come in with the first chorus (1:20). It's just a backing pad. Virgil does indeed play keys on this clip. I used to go to their gigs every week at the good old Grainstore and he was playing an old Yamaha DX7. There's another section of the video (not uploaded) where he's visible at the keys. Just ask Irwin. :-)
If any one knows, this song is off a very nice movie about a pilot who breaks her legs in a crash i think but in the end is still able to fly.. im after the name and cannot find it anywhere and cannot remember. if anyone knows, i would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks muchly x
@Shaneo1990 - "Never Tell Me Never" - Janine Shepherd's Story - she broke her spine not just her legs... Personally I think the book was better than the movie... :-)
@freezingheat27 actually Virgil did all Keyboard parts on the albums as well as their backing tracks they ran live.. until they got sick of the dat player stopping on them & did away with them.. LOL
I saw him at the old Sydney Casino with Rick Price, it was just the two of them and their guitars. It would have to be one of the most amazing musical evenings of my life. Where is he now, I can't even find a Southern Sons CD anywhere - help!
I find it highly amusing that you had a shot at Phil Buckle - legend guitarist and former member of SS. Wow do you know more than him to attack him like that?
So is he alive or dead?? whoever he is and whoever he was influenced by he is an awesome signer with a great voice.. If he is dead he will not be touring soon.
Well you don't have to have met someone in order for him or her to have an influence on your music. There are many musicians out there that are greatly influenced by Jimmy Hendrix for example, but havent actually met him since thats kind of impossible as hes dead.
Okay Irwin has never actually said Farnham influenced him - that was nothing more than a cute media tale that surfaced when he sessioned on JF's Chain Reaction album and tour. The man is the son of a Hollywood legend and a Broadway songwriter and dancer - he had no choice but to be born talented!!! I think you should look beyond the surface of what you think you know - maybe his friends know a bit more. ;-)
Personally I couldnt care less who he was influenced by. Whether it was John Farnham or Ghandi for that matter, who cares. Yes I agree he is an artist in his own right but we are all influenced & shaped by other people both dead & alive & life experiences. I just found your Research & learn comment earlier quite condescending thats all. If you really want to educate someone on a topic then teach them without being so patronizing .
Yeah, and Farnham is way older than him, they are both Aussie, so don't tell me Farnham wasn't an 'influence' on him, and what's wrong with that anyway? Gn'R said Motorhead, AC/DC, and The Cult influenced them, FFS !!
Actually sweetie Irwin Thomas was born and raised in New York and is returning there in a few months to live. Calm yourself down - some people might actually be friends with those you claim to know so much about.
Oh BTW Farnham was born in England and only became "Aussie" on the morning before he was awarded Australian of the Year in 1988!!! As for G&R, Axl Rose told me who has influenced him the most - I'll give you a hint, they've supported the last two times G&R have toured here. :-)
YEa he sounds like Farnham, abit, I remember him though i was not a fan but talented for sure.
