Raw corn can be pretty amazing. We bought some in Olathe, CO last year. They said to try it raw, and we were shocked. It was like candy. Supposedly Olathe corn is special, though. The stuff we buy at WF can be pretty starchy.
i have never grilled corn before. was wondering have you ever tried deep fried corn on the cob? it is very good. & don't forget the s&p.& butter. also, i like to stir in a tbsp. of mayo into my serving of whole kernal corn on my plate. it is really good..& don't forget a lil' s&p.
HAHAHA you should have a contest to see who gets to be your best friend ;)
Anyway, I think the whole point of soaking is so that it doesn't catch on fire. Just like you have to soak skewers for the same reason. I would think the taste would be better unsoaked...because it gives the natural juices the chance to steam the corn, as apposed to the water. idk tho, I don't grill it (yet).
We usually let It soak for about a hour but have also just grilled It with out a soak too. I think If you want a crisp, pop In your mouth, un-browned corn let It soak. And If you want a nice browned tender corn, then grill It as Is. Either way grilled corn Is a must have In the summer time!
Seems like the soaking might help a too dry corn get some moisture back but I don't think corn you can eat right off the cob needs anymore water.
Maybe just dunking it in water for a few minutes would help reduce the charring similar to soaking wood for the smoker but it sounds like you like a little charing.
My father-in-law recommends just tossing an ear in the microwave for 1 minute husk and all.
From what I've read sweet corns sugars supposedly start converting to starches the minute you pick it. It obviously takes time but supposedly sweet corn you picked in the morning and refrigerated all day and corn you picked, cooked, and ate immediately will have a noticeably different level of sweetness. I haven't experimented with this myself but it seems to be the consensus of the articles, books, and youtube videos I've seen.
I always shuck corn first then put on rack of hot grill rotating as needed and i never soak ears this way you control the browning but be careful it will cook quick and dry out if left over a few minutes
I did grill some corn this year for the first time. I have eaten it before but never made it myself. Hubby had never tried it.. it was wonderful.. we loved it! I soaked it for 1-3 hours if I remember right.

I like most of your videos but you obviously didn't think this one through before taping!

@bm5447 we usually don't think any through, that's the beauty of GardenFork, its not a TV food show.

I prefer unsoaked the best.
I believe this is how they do it at the fairs, etc...
Thanks!

@badboyorganics its looking like unsoaked is the method of choice. i grilled some with no husk and the kernels were dried out.

Eric, I couldn't wait tried it tonight. I did it dry and turned out great, better than steamed.

I never soak the corn when I grill them. I think they turn out great that way.
Ugh..I hate ketchup! I like it with butter and pepper! I love the carmelization on the corn!
Great video Eric!

In Mexican neighborhoods, the street vendors have mayo, chili powder, that white crumbly cheese, and a squirt of lime juice on their corn.

There has to be as many methods for grilling corn as there are kernals.

Eric, you may not want to feed your dogs corn as it is very bad for their digestive system.

Raw is my favorite way of eating it... just a few minutes after it's harvested! Probably the most healthful way also ;)
