I'm considering a burmese for our next cat (our last was just a crossbred male who sadly passed away). He was very 'doglike' in nature, very playful and affectionate, and extremely talkative. We'd love to have one with a similar nature to his, and I've heard the Burmese are renowned for it. But I really don't want an aggressive cat, and I have heard they can be domineering, can anyone out there clear this up for me? :) thanx
If you're looking for a 'doglike' cat, I would definitely recommend a maine. My main coon is quite doglike and he's also quite large as well, bigger than a small dog. He follows me around the house, loves to cuddle and be carried around like a baby. He also runs to the door when someone rings the doorbell. I also taught him to "shake hands" and "fetch"
@yorkheardt A Burmese is an excellent choice, particularly if you're looking for one with a "doglike" nature! I have 2 Burmese cats, a Blue girl and a Red boy and they are just the sweetest, most affectionate, playful, and beautiful cats ever! They meow all the time and they behave like dogs do when you come here - they run up to you, meowing and jumping up and wanting cuddles :) we always hold ours like babies as they do in the video and they're really just wonderful cats, I recommend Burmeses!
Absolutely beautiful cat.....MY cat likes being held like this. She is a stray be she has very prominate features of an oriental shorthair. Although I am the only one she will let hold like this. But it is a cute thing and I consider it to be a special thing because not every cat will trust you that much. They say a cat only exposes its belly to you when it trusts you it's their way of saying "I trust you".
Same actually. She knows I'm always in my room on the computer, so the very first room she visits is my room, when she enters the house. We always chill out together lol.
Every time I sit at the computer mine wants to be cuddled like a baby - Mine is a cream burmese and looks similar to this one. He is a BIG baby but EVERYTIME I get on the computer?!
i knew nothing bout burmese when i got mine. have had him for a few yrs now. i used to think he was a cat freak, like a dog and baby. i thought he was ONE OF A KIND. Now I see it must be in the genes and there are probably dozens of thousands of Burmese and Siamese with the SAME habits!!
wow, the tantrum sounds dangerous.. mine doesnt do that. as for plastic bags, he loves crawling into them - i m afraid he ll strangle himself one day with them.. but the chewing I know from my cellphone. He hates the sound and tries to "kill" it i guess. :D
I have a Chocolate tabby point Siamese who loves to be held like this (:

That's really sad to hear. My cat is 11 turning 11 soon, and I've been away from her for two years living overseas.

yeah,I have 2 siameses, one of them will only be carried like this, otherwise she throws a tantrum and tears your arm off ...
BUT, both of them eat plastic bags (like chew on them) and do the same with the foamy toe dividers for when you paint your nails.
anyone else's cat do that?!
