I remember this when I was a kid. Even at a young age I could appreciate the talent both these guys showed that night. It was one of the most nail biting, closely fought matches i've ever seen. It made me go and buy a dartboard and some darts afterwards lol. No matter which guy you were rooting for, you can't deny that they were both incredible that night. Brilliant entertainment :)
Hahaaaa....Eric shoots % shot. It is like saying: hey, kid, the 138 is too high # for you to take out ! And Keith screws Eric over ! What a finish !!!!!!
It's sad to see Deller and Bristow unable to role back the years and become forces in world darts again, They had their best playing days in their 20s and began sinking like lead balloons by age 40 (earlier for Eric). Only re-enforced by of the current crop of old Pro's (Taylor, Adams, Jenkins, O'shea, Fitton etc): all having their golden harvests after age 43.
Best match i have ever seen what a finish and even more perfect when bristow played the percentage shot magic! My favourite dart player by far keith deller.
quality checkout, suprised bristow didn't go for the bull, obviously thought he'd be back for double 16. See eric finishing his pint in true form at the end of the game (2.13)
me dad played deller when he was champion in butlins in wales when i was a kid!! they played best of three & me dad took him to the last double in the last game but deller beat him 2-1. he turned shook me dads hand & told him he gave him a better game than bristow in the final!! haha
I remember that as though it was yesterday we were all screaming at the telly "COME ON DELLER"!!!! My mum was crying, my sister was crying, my brothers were crying and of course I was crying. What a great piece of English Sporting History.... and if you read this keith "COME ON DELLER" thanks for the memory....
deller should have got a knighthood for winning that championship against all the odds. lowe quarters, wilson semis,a remarkable acheivment.still to this day cant belive brissy never threw for that bull especally as keith banged in about 5 ton plus finishes before he won.real nice guy deller too met him on a famous lpool road he was lookin for suetes hotel knowsley was doin an exibtn ther after i gave him directions he signed autograph 4 my son and offered me to be his guest shame i was workin:(
my furthest back sporting memory..ahead of the world cup, european championship, any of that craic.... holy fuck i was only 9 at the time.. thats just what it meant to see the crafty cockneys crestfallen smug face at the end of it...SAVAGE entertainment!!!
Bristow may have come across as arrogant but I met him once and found him to be an absolute gentleman.Taylor may be king but no one could entertain like Eric.
what a checkout by keith deller 138 to win a world title against argubly against the second most successfull dart player of all time eric bristow brilliant stuff
Keith was and still is a great player-you never lose it.Eric had bottle and in previous years would have been a gladiator; so Keith did what very few could do.
AHA!! You're Keiths son matt!! Bet you're proud as punch of your dad winning the world champtionship eh? I've seen him many times in the North Stand at Ipswich Town and he never gets fed up of talking about the 138, fantastic stuff!
Aye, a 12 darter it was. In terms of least darts thrown in the title winning leg, I think this is the best leg that there's been. 2nd to that is Phil Taylor who threw a 13 darter to win the title 9 years later against Mike Gregory
People's voices are normally meant to get deeper with age. Why hasn't Sid's? lol

Eric obviously felt the bull was not on for him. Great final.
