  • Id like to see more varied rifle stances being used, instead of ONLY the standard supported barricade kneeling.

Where's the medium range rifle (100 yards) standing/kneeling unsupported? Sitting position unsupported?

Unsupported positions just make it so that more care is needed for constructing a stable shooting position, which is after all one of the marksmanship essentials

Sometimes less is more! Less barricades means more that more and different type of targets fit in the truck

    :D

  • PFIDad looks like the father from the show 'Sons of Guns'

  • Fun candid video!!

  • Need to figure out how to get down there from Canada :P

  • What a Cool Crew video. This was so funny...Great Video!!! Pre-sledge hammer video...may be this could be the begining of the other sledge hammer vids..??? Gee, it sure seems like a lot of work to set it all up but it is worth it. I sure do enjoy watching them!

  • That's hilarious. PFI dad planted and seed and the roots took... Gotta watch out for those old guys... They never want to run, they'll give you a thousand reasons in hopes

One will get them out of it.

  • Kinda late but I have a better idea, I think.

For those who don't want to run, bring out a punching ball.

    Yes, seriously.

There are many models that would fit in your vehicle just fine.

The "I don't want to run" is mental imo. If you make them punch their blood will rise just as well but they won't complain because what man complains about punching stuff.

    Right?

How long depends on the bag ofc.

  • I love your sledge runs. Maybe you can run it a little bit differently, like incorporating a dummy drag, construct/erect a barricade. Simulate FTF with random dummy rounds. I'm not sure, but anything that can help you prepare your body and skills is a good thing.

  • I'm looking forward to Beretta releasing the ARX. The SCAR looks like a great gun too but the ARX looks like a real winner to me.

I'm still ashamed of Bushmaster for what they did with the ACR. Magpul should have teamed with another company.............Like Bravo Company or something.

  • Oh, and put me down for more shooting and less running. You make me tired just watching. :)

  • @Sturmgewehre Your awesome, I love it when two of my favorite channels get along.

  • @icecoffeeenthusiast Thanks man. I'm a long time subscriber of Nutnfancy's. He was doing reviews before reviews were cool on Youtube. :) I always check out his new vids.

  • @Sturmgewehre lol, yeah, he's great.

  • Here I was thinking that the ARX160 might actually be here since it's been a year since it showed up at SHOT. But you're right, what gives? Can't wait to hear what the Beretta guys have to say this year at SHOT.

  • never really thought of the aches and pains after the fun, thanks for all the hard work nutn, keep it up

  • How bout more shooting and more running to weed out the weak.

  • yes, I do envy you getting to do all the run an guns, at the same time, i know it doe's get old.

  • have you tried the "short trigger" version of the sig p250? I think I saw something about that on their website

  • you look skinnier nutn. everything okay or just a lot of running around?

  • Digging these behind the scenes talks. Just throw a 5 hour energy in your ammo bag, you'll be fine : )

  • There's never anybody else around when you go shooting, how far away from civilization do you go?? Wish I had a place like that to go shooting, well...and a crew like that!

  • I love these types of videos. It's full of behind the scenes information.

  • He drives two hours before he even starts all this work, and then two hours back. My respect for these videos just increased.

  • Love the vids seeing you guys behind the action. More shooting is always a great alternative. TNP keeping it real. Keep it up guys!

  • I got an e-mail back from Kel-Tec the other day! The KSG will be out in the end of 2011 in a small quanity, and many more in 2012! I hope to be lucky enough to get one by 2013! Thanks for all the work!

  • Nutn, you're looking skinny bro!

I'd love to run the sledge!

  • @nutnfancy I think less running between stations is better - less time to think between them. You can't mentally "catch your breath" before you have to start shooting again.

  • This is another point in the project where I see you guys grow and learn to change your guys system for the better of the project. Glad to see videos like this with the trademark honesty of TNP.

Also are you planning on doing a review on the Troy battlemag?

  • I loved this "sit-down" with nutn and friends. Brilliant marketing. It was a nice little window into the real-life planning of TNP.

Apart from that, I agree, the runs should be more about the guns, and less about whether or not the shooters can run a sub 4.3 fifty in a full loadout.

  • A shorter course would be cool as long that you ad more target put 15 or 20 target wit 1 or 2 shot per target bam bam NEX bam bam NEX bam bam NEX target that would be sweet.

  • Key to a higher level of testing: more heat in the guns. It'll cost more but give important data points.

  • Me and a buddy are still waiting for our Park. top and O.D. bottom PF9s!! You guys crack me up. I'll never pretend I wouldn't be wore out after a day of sledge... :-)

  • loved this short vid. u guys are the funniest. lol

  • Sucks about not getting the money back bro. It's not like they can't afford a freakin' tax write off.

Doing great in keeping the weight down Nutn. After awhile it just starts literally melting off as you keep active.

  • Larger course...seems you're testing the shooters more than the guns. Suppose the other gear gets tested though of course.

  • Wheelchair? C'mon Nutn! How about a tactical Rascal with review?!

  • Dude! You're dropping the weight!!!

    Hope all is well!

  • Yeah I feel the pain now. I remember running the recon course 4 times in a row at Camp Pendleton and I was like man we dont have time for another? Now I mess around and do hardly anything and the next day its like people beat you with ball bats... Age sucks... doesnt help that I about destroyed my body in the Corp.

  • More running and more shooting.

  • Wow.... slam on Keltec! Chad,..... dude, own up and pay the bill, clean the slate!

  • Kel Tec "quality". And that's the issue... the quality and QC just lacks.

  • You're an advocate of refining systems, shorting the Sledge would be that kind of modification. Especially, with technology, sledge may be in for future facelifts per the prototype swanking healing targets tested in the Sunflower shoot . The sledge could have steel-like feedback within 100 yrds or even a advancing shoot similar to Firefight. The reference data loss will be a shame but is overcome-able. It's a win because it = more reviews. With all the support I have. Take care and God bless.

  • Yup Keltec really need to step up they,re game big time. Been waiting for the RMR30 for a while.

  • 1st Love the talking vid.. funny, interesting, good info >> more of those please. =D

2nd Why not make up a new course instead of changing the current?

3rd What shirt is PFIdude wearing? It's pretty cool.. I may have to head over to his website and pester him for details. >_o

4th and most important.. thank you for all your hard work guys.

  • wow nutnfancy is a lot skinnier than i thought. i thought he'd be buffer. :O

  • I'd love to run it

    Thad be sweet

  • thumbs up for tactical back hair! PFi Dad is the man.

  • Man, Nutn looks small without all gear on. A shorter course is great for systems that have less questions surrounding them. An AR variant will need less ringing out than an exotic offering, like a FS2000, Ruger Gunsite, etc. Standardizing the round count would make the tests more usable. If every gun did 25 rounds with 3 mag changes the running would become less important. ]

  • Man lots of running in your project. Keep up the great work. Thanks for all the great reviews.

  • OMG this fking advertisement doesnt load and dont let me wat ch the video

  • @wilfredotour3 If you're using IE, try another browser. Worked for me. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy Firefox, but it works now. This kind of stuff happens. Thanks for minding about it.

  • @wilfredotour3 One might recommend getting Firefox and AdBlock Plus.

  • @wilfredotour3 Use firefox and get Adblock Plus! You won't have ANY ads on youtube anymore.

  • @wilfredotour3 Use Firefox with the Adblock Plus extension installed. You will never see an advertisement on the internet again. There's an Adblock Plus for Chrome too, but it doesn't work quite as well.

  • @wilfredotour3 Firefox+AdBlock=no YouTube commercials. Ever. I've never seen one, though I hear they are annoying and prolific.

  • @wilfredotour3 reload the page, CMD+R is the hotkey for most browsers.

  • @wilfredotour3 get an addblocker

  • love these off the cuff videos, like the Allie update with TD's triad system. Keep it up!

  • man i love the open desert where alot of tnp takes place... stupid kentucky where i live is completely treeless... i love this video!

  • Nice!

  • The choice is totally up to y'all and what procedure/time restraint allows. Y'all know to keep the stress levels up and heart rate to push the shooter. Do what you gotta do. THanks for sharing the conversation/debate!

  • Many hands make light work... You need more dummies.... Helpers to do the running...NO I am not offering. Spectator only. The vids are wonderful.. It is your aches and pains-your decision. Keep up the fantasic job.

  • I've been a TNPer for a while, but I don't think I've ever caught how you and PFI met...

    Can you shed some light?

  • I say keep the Sledge as it is. It's perfect. You NEED the distance to give the human variable in there. Yeah, you can test guns in all the perfect, unstressed conditions you want but lets be honest, when you actually USE them, and when you need to RELY on them - chances are the situation isn't going to be under laboratory conditions.

Nutn, the run is PERFECT as it is. From my, 'viewers POV' of course.

  • There is an old adage in rock climbing: you can push your gear or you can push your ability, but its not a good idea to push both at the same time. From a gear review point of view, the emphasis should be on the durability and performance level of the product, and less so on the human doing the testing. Just my opinion.

  • your videos are the most scientific reviews available. if you change it the variables its less of an accurate experiment. keep it the way it was man. i love TNP

  • Tired shooting equals less justice to the gun and therefore reduces your control line for your experiment. you need consistency to truly compare quality and performance.

  • You could run less. I would like to see you doing GROUPS DRILLS though

  • Great vid as always bro....been thinking about trying that sig 250 for a while

  • Awesome vid Nutn, I liked seeing some of the thought and interactions behind the TNP camera...very cool....

  • I'm thinking keep the sledghammer the same and make a "sledghammer2" or different run that focus's on keeping the guns hot.

  • Makes sense to shorten it, I think. Like you said, you'll have time to run more guns, and do so with better energy and focus throughout the day. I'm for it.

  • Ball Pein hammer drill!

  • Why not have a sledgehammer long and short?

  • What cammo pattern is PFI dads tactical back hair?

  • Shorten course and finish with 3 shots at 300 yards.

  • I like these clips you should do these more often. Shorten it, for the amount of runs yall do. It would represent the weapon system better., but maybe add a target or two. With the distance between targets your testing yourself more than the weapon system. How your perform under stress with the system. Which isn't a bad thing either.

  • Nutn, if you need volunteers for the sledge, count us in!

  • i feel like you should keep it the same. theres a reason its called sledge, its supposed to knock ya.

  • Oh, and remember if you decrease the running and increase the shooting, it's going to cost you more in ammo :\

  • How bout you bring in some younger guys with more stamina to run it for you ;P

  • If it aint broke dont fix it.

  • had a thought, name the course new sledge hammer and old one dread hammer.

  • It keeps you guys in shape; that has value.

  • Funny.....your getting old.

  • Tactical back hair!

  • why dont you make one big course but with subtests, like running and shooting, just shooting mixed it up so you can test everything but in a one stable course

  • Correct me if I'm wrong...but you're getting roughly a 50/50 mix of personal stamina /systems integration on a personal level and how those various parts of the system (LBE, weapons, holsters, slings, etc) work with someone who is approaching exhaustion. Correct? Anyone can reload a weapon, transition to pistol, clear jams...etc from a firing line. The problem is when you stretch the course out...you're favoring the personal stamina test more than the equipment side of the testing. Shorten it

  • Why do none of the run and guns have a stab drill. Like empty your main platform, then your hand gun into different range targets, then dispatch one more bad guy with your knife. Knife guy here. And handguns.

  • What about shortened courses of fire based purely on POU's (e.g. mixing & matching different types of parameters)...these data points can then be "approximated" into larger sequences/data points without having to actually run the Sledgehammer Course "Proper." It's kind of like the concept of psycho-acoustics (I believe) used in the design of the mp3 music file (and its variants)--only the pertinent frequencies are grouped together to give the ears a high quality rendition of the actual sounds...

  • Shorten the course and simply convert the distance to centimeters ;-)

  • I am going to invent a best TNP video of the year award and nominate this one.

  • tactical backhair :)) lol , the course? who cares :) as long as you go and do your thing :) and damn about that ammo with Chad.. cool vid&thumbs up, love this at least as much as the shootin' :)

  • I'd like to run it someday.

  • i live down the street from Kel-Tec i will go slap chad in the back of the head for you and get your money for you PFI ps.love this little video's

  • I guess that's the first time I see Nutn wearing a t-shirt LOL)))

  • @NaxTactical yup as gay as it gets sister.

  • I vote for shorter courses, less running and more shooting. Also I like the idea of running downhill at times.

  • shorten it yo. If it keeps you guys happier doing it, it'll keep the project going with high spirits.

  • I think shortening the sledge would be cool...more shooting. You can still get your heartrates up but not be as drained and get in more shooting and keep it fun for the guys. I find the scores interesting as a "hey I beat your score" thing but don't really take them into account in the reviews because too much of a human factor. The Kel-Tech issue makes me kinda want to return my PF9...what the heck are they doing over there?

  • I vote yes for the "Jeriatric-Sledge".

  • whynot make a new course?

  • I'll never get to go on a shoot ..... makes me feel like I'm there. Thanks! ....... Roll Tide

  • Have to agree with condensing the course a little. Nice vid though.

  • love the inside look!

  • I get that you want to maintain a standard, and all the running is to elevate your stress to make it a more field worthy assessment, but you have to keep it enjoyable for yourself and your crew, or what's the point.

  • pfi dude looks good. no homo haha

  • @aus1092 You know, i was thinking the same thing. Handsome dude, nothing gay about that bro.

  • Maybe it's just me but the times always seemed sorta arbitrary anyway. I always viewed the Hammer and other setups as just gun demonstration and testing. Trying to compared speeds between makes really wasn't something that seemed relevant. Too much of a human element involved. Love the vids though. Thanks.

  • I agree with one of the lower comments about using established drills. Great vids btw. Keep it up.

  • These videos are great, what are you going to do for the 1000 th video, how about a machine gun video, put a m134 minigun in the 1000 vid, shoot the big sandy machine gun shoot in Arizona?

  • You could do one of two good runs with the regular sledgehammer so you can get a good time. But then for regular usage, just to test the guns, have the shortened, less draining run.

  • Maybe just a little less running, But if you shorten it too much you might as well set up an ipsc course, I think it is set up pretty good right now, Personal preference though but as far as I am concerned the video could be a 7 hour long sheep dog philosophy vid and I am perfectly happy, Everything that Nutnfancy makes is fantastic! Long Live TNP!!!

  • After you modify Sledge, upgrade to 720HD video !

    Thanks !

  • Not diggin the new commercials...

  • I love seein' the reviews on The Hammer. I say if you are more likely to do Hammer reviews, made it shorter.

It's great to get behind the scenes. I'd like to see a short "setting up the hammer" video as well.

  • 5 o'clock at night that is when you know your old lol

  • while I luv the run n' guns and gear reviews.. "behind the scenes/slice of life" vids like this are SUPER... only thing missing is Allie T.M.D.....any backpacking/adventure vids w/ LastSuspect or Tac-Doodle on the way (I'm hoping Allie recovers to go soon too)?

thank you (and crew..btw where's Sadly Missing.. he's living up to his name) for the vids and TNP !!!

  • ouch calling out kel-tec but hey truth hurts they need to step up with their manufacturing capacity no doubt

  • these vids always make me wanna get out to the desert and shoot...but then i remember that im flat out broke and cant afford to put lead through my guns lol

  • @vince45chapin Maybe you will think this sounds gay, but concider making a replica airsoft gun of your firearm. Take a look at Travis Haley's channel: /user/HaleyStrategic

He made a video named Airsoft X Training.

  • Nut'n you and the crew have hit a great point: A "CAD station" rendering is "NOT" a functioning weapon ... never will be. There is a reason we need apprenticeship programs in all phases of engineering and design. Great video!

  • This is really simple; Companies that jerk their vendors around are usually even worse with their employees. Until it is publicly confirmed that both PFI AND Chad have been reimbursed for their expenses, my money goes elsewhere. It sounds like their desk jockeys need to take a refresher course in standard accounting and business practices.

  • I enjoy these type of "behind the scenes" videos you do. I also really like your longer videos. You have taken a lot of flak lately it seems about the longer videos. I quite like sledgehammer, I don't mind the running...its only a few seconds before you are shooting again. I would totally understand wanting to shorten it though. I have done these types of drills albeit not as often as you. They are physically demanding as is set up/clean up.

  • remind me never to invite Kel-Tec to anything. sounds like the type of friend that steals drinks from you and then doesn't even throw some cash in for the cab ride home. LAAAAAMMMEEE!

  • Cool shades btw. What are they?

  • KEEP THE SLEDGE

  • Perfect suggestion from PFI on taking it to the next level. Have you thought about running some of the published drills that are out there now from the training community? MagPuls BSA, Viking Tactics 2-2-2, 1-5 drills, IDPA's classifier, etc.

  • i know this might be too much time, but would it possible to make 2 different kinds of sledgehammer, a shorter one with a higher round count to test accuracy and reliability, and a longer one (perhaps even longer than the existing sledgehammer) to test ergonomics and portability? seems like the two test would test the weapons better than one single test would.

  • When me and a few friends finally tool up were going to set up a pistol-man course, than a rifle/pistol range.

Transitions and gear testing are less important as we can do that in airsoft.

    Go ahead.....I dare you.

  • run it in parts, like just handgun and then just rifle,

  • Awsome vid, this is a great view into the friendships that really form the project.

  • My impression of the sledge hammer drill was more about the philosophy of preparedness. It tested the weapons, but secondarily, if not primarily, it pushed the individual outside their comfort zone to familiarize the shooter with shooting under high stress. I've always admired that you put yourself up to that sort of challenge, but I understand wanting to keep things fresh.

  • more sledge less sludge! get PFIDad an ATV to RideNGun

  • Shorten the sledge? Whats going to keep you guys in shape?

  • boy you hit the ACR right on the head. where's our 6.8 at freedom arms?????

  • Way to go PFI Dad!

  • It's Nutnfancy's fireside chat! =) Love seeing other people doing course analysis. It gives me fresh perspectives on improving my layout(s).

  • Nice to see the grunt work that goes into these courses

  • I think a shorter distance course with the same target distances and round counts would mean you have data you could still use from previous runs. Since each individual's fitness level/recovery rate are different a shorter course means they have less time to adjust between stations. Put a good heart pumping stretch at the front and just before the long shot. Other distances aren't as crucial, having to switch targets and weapons should keep their mindstate elevated. Expect to use more ammo ;)

  • NICE B.S. video with the fellas

    ALWAYS great stuff.

    LONG LIVE THE PEOPLE!!!

  • For a second I thought I was watching an episode of the golden girls! Do not change the sledge, time to bring in Tactical Doodle and the young guns! All kidding around regardless whose running, always fun and informative to see.

  • Nutn you need to get a four wheeler, to go set up the steel.

  • Evolving is a natural, positive thing, nothing stays the same forever! Sledgehammer mod 2!

  • Definitely shorten the sledge! More shooting is what the viewers want I guarantee it.

  • On the Kel Tec tip...they are just seriously overwhelmed. I live nearby and had to take my Pf9 (That I was already not happy with before it broke) in to the factory. The customer service was great (really great) but they had this attitude of "Oh yeah. That happens a LOT"...kinda scary. Their facility itself looks really ghetto too. I got a call from one of their engineers a week later to ask about all of the problems I had and he said that part of their problem...

  • @jonnypescado1 ...was having one CNC machine trying to do multiple parts. They have amazing people, service and designs but their systems are FUBAR, IMO. They can't even come close to matching QC with production demands. Anyhoo...just traded my Pf9 in on a S&W 669 and now I'm in LOVE. If it was a car it'd be a 60s Chevelle...Small, built like a tank but can suck the doors off of any car next to it. SAWC be damned! LOL I'd ask for a S&W 3G review series but they're getting expensive as it is!

  • I was going to buy a Kel Tec PF9, but after seeing some of my friends and the hassles they had sending back Kel Tec guns for quality problems I went with a different manufacturer. I don't need any of that trouble to deal with.

  • good video nutn and veri keep up the great work

  • Great video. I like seeing the interaction of the crew.

  • I totally agree about Kel Tec! And.. a shorter standardized course with more fire would def be a much better way to run it I think. I love the BS'n guys, keep up the great work!

  • Sounds like a killer idea to me Nut'n, get some heat in those guns.

  • Interesting about Kel Tec. Been thinking of getting the PF9 but if that's how they treat their customers, I'm starting to question if that's the way I will go. Pay up Kel Tec.

  • @ nutnfancy I agree with andrewasaurus, although i enjoy watching you guys get your asses kicked by the sledge, you guys are there to run the guns. Heat'em up boys!!!! Rock on!

  • Hey Kel Tec, whats up! How about doing the right thing and reimburse PFI!!!!!!!

That's pretty weak if you dont.

Hey Nutn that was hilarious. The course shortening should be fine. It will allow more runs, more runs=more data. Though in the end the fatigue may be the same because you are doing the extra runs.

  • kel tec lol they better send ya some ammo

  • We need to send Keltec a Mac, then we might be able to buy their guns at stores after being available : P Shorten it, or run faster, but not both!

  • I’ve always thought the course was backwards. Most engagements start at distance then move in and if all is not going well you would transition to pistol. Why not run it backwards down the hill. Love the vids keep them coming.

  • Behind the scenes w/ friends. How great is that to see the progression of the TNP project.

  • i think running is good because it raises your heart beat and makes it more of a challenge. Great Vids :-D

  • That was fun to watch, thanks.

  • Neat video!

  • Sledge might be an ass kicker but...

if you had the money to support your shooting habit, and could do it routinely 2 days a week, it'd be one hell of a work out routine..

If anything, the cost of ammo would be the killer.

  • I love videos like this... I'd love to see more of them. Kind of an impromptu video.

  • 10:44 cell phone ring x-mit induced interference.
