Ole does a great job, but please drop the lacoste shirt - it gives a wrong image when he is a lama. The Tibetan buddhism is great but it is too attached to ideas and language. Study zen and leave all concepts behind including your ideas of Buddha.
@etphonehome2915 Its hard for a western person to drop all the concepts all of a sudden. We need something to feed our intellects on and then only through practice we can start to dissolve illusions. If you say "leave your concepts" you might create concept of "leaving one´s concepts" in one´s mind and therefore create more confusion.
And if you do not like that some way of Buddhism is attached to ideas, why does a little symbol on Ole´s shirt bother you?
You do whatever you want but a master that drives a porsche or wears hugo boss all the time is just not the spirit of buddhism, no matter how unattached that person is. It just gives the wrong impression.. if you're going to talk the talk, you've got to walk the walk. But I guess he has to walk all over town to find the right shop and t-shirt - lacoste lol. Unless there is only lacoste shops where he does his shopping. You are right its hard, but it is a start to find another shirt.
@etphonehome2915 I am sorry but there is not enough understanding of Ole's message in what you are writting. There is no buddhism better than the other and Lama has always underlined that. If Zen is better for you, that's fine. I hope it will bring happiness to your life. Other people might achieve the same by following the Diamond Way. The second thing is that you can by polos like that in second hand shops, not only designers. I would bet money that it was bought by Hanna ;) stay blessed :)
No, he's not a god. He's a philosopher who has undergone a number of different interpretations throughout the continent of Asia. The Ch'an tradition in China is perhaps the closest example of a group that actually deified the Buddha, but even then, any Ch'an Buddhist would tell you that he is simply a man and nothing of divine origin.
Unfortunately, a red-lettered version of Sanskrit only gives us 2 pages of quotes from the actual Buddha. Everything else came much later.
@etphonehome2915 Killing flesh doesn't do a job. One must kill attachment to oneself and to Buddha. One should use his or her own eyes, ears, hands and legs. Enjoy evening daybreake. Spring blossoms. Summer showers. Autumn forest mushrooms. Winter skating and skiing. A good mug of hot milk with butter & honey is always welcome during long winter evenings, don't you think so?!
Ole is a lama, just try to follow him for a few weeks you will know,, What Wikipedia says is not corect,, They are academic, Ole is a live..and working 24 hours for almost 40 years for the benefit of all human, that is much more the most lama does.. Big respect for him..
I like Diamond Way because it does not demand that you dress like a tibetan monk in order to practice it...so many Western practitioners that I know try to act Tibetan and this makes the real Tibetans laugh at them...
@ElPapasanga His sorcery is charmingly reasonable on the beginning only . Later hi trow you brutally in Buddhism mind controlling full of holy figure, statuette, smoke, kiss feet, religion .Already hi try to focus your mind on breath on the tip of your nose .This is very very no no no. Hi is working for CIA MC.department.
@ElPapasanga You don't have to wear like a monk, but also good not to wear Lacost shirts. Some awareness of modern corporate practices is required from conscious Buddhists
The thing I like mostly about Lama Ole is that he still looks and behaves as a person born in Europa although converted to a traditionel eastern religion. Combining the best of both world and not just blindly following one.
But his body language does not seem to say "nirvahana" to me.
The swallowing, the inward-looking gaze, shoulder movements, the self-directed expressions, self-touching (that itch) do not look extraordinarily peaceful.
I can't talk.
Also this "you are not your body" "they are tools that you take" sounds strangely dualist.
Is it important to be able to see the tip of ones nose? It sounds interesting, especially for those with long noses.
The nose also presents problems, perhaps, for self image. It is the only parts of ones face that one can see directly. And as such, in my case anyway, it is too big! And there are two of them!
I will try concentrating on my breating at thte tip of my nose. Thanks.

When I think of this guy, I get a bitter taste in my mouth. Not only does he deliver some strange and almost racist remarks about people, not just muslims, but he claims that his doctrine and his teachings is a quicker and easier way to nirvana.. what gives? It's just a bunch of feel-good meditations and bullsh...
Well... Vajrayana. These techings are the same as all great indian and tibetian yogis were giving to the people centuries ago. Even Karmapa said that if you practice Diamond Way, you can reach enlightment by only a few lifes. But it's not easy way though:o)

Karmapa Schmarmapa. The 16th karmapa seems to me as bad as "lama" ole. you know that diamondway followers meditate on 16th karmapa? for what reason? and during those meditations the teachers says "karmapa chenno" means "may all the buddhas power work through us" which is crap. it means "karmapa, you know". I like tibetan buddhism in many ways, but diamondway.. not at all
:o))) ok, whatever. But "tibetan buddhism" is just a different name for "diamondway". If 16th karmapa seems bad to you, your point of view is opposite to all tibetan and non-tibetan buddhist teachers. Just another opinion, why not.
if you understand anything about buddhism you'll know all these things should never be taken literally. ever. heaven realms, green buddhas, arms, mantras all mean nothing.. its just a way of getting an otherwise indescribable and inconcievable way into our silly little minds..
i think it is great that you have such a strong reaction to him, that is really good...i think that you should try to meet him so that you can ask him these questions yourself :) having a critical mind is key to practicing mindfulness..do you practice? you are at least interested in- Mahayana maybe?
Hi anna, yes I practice (Sotozen). But awhile ago Ole was speaking in my hometown, and I went to see. I went to the local diamondwaycenter a little while after to learn some more, and the people there were really nice. But they were idolizing this Ole, like people idolize Sai baba and osho etc, and I felt their practice had a very loose connection to dharma, I would call it new-age at best. No disrespect, but I think it deserves a critical view. Are you a diamondway practitioner?
present a problem for people to find a balance between looking for the mirror-like wisdom of the teacher and believing it necessary to agree with all political views of the lama. for instance. also, when i came to my first lecture with Lama Ole I was Vegetarian going on 12 years and heard him speak on the fact that vegetarianism is not necessary for Lay-practitioners...i flipped out inwardly..but stayed with it and found my own understanding of what he had said.
Having a teacher can be too personal for some people - but devotion should not be confused with emotional attachment. That's why Buddha gave different methods, keying on the tendencies and capacities of individuals.
Our style is totally clean - we mainly practice Ngondro and keep this Mahamudra view. We are meditation practice-oriented centers that do not dillute the teachings by mixing or picking out what we want. The historical precendent is there and we can be called Marpa-Kaygus.
I met this guy once and he was very, very good. It was 1989 and one of the things he talked about was the danger of muslim fundamentalist terrorists. Many years later about thirty minutes after the 9/11 attacks in nyc I remembered him and thought, "Wow! He was right." He's an extremely intelligent person. Impressive.
