Are the black Berkey filters rated to filter out viruses? Viruses can be as small as 25nm in size, and I am skeptical that these ceramic filters are capable of filtering out something that small.
I would like to have an emergency water backup system and I want something that does it all (I don't want to add chemicals like iodine). The "LifeSaver bottle" supposedly has a 15nm pore size which is enough to filter out every known microbiological contaminant. I would rather have the Berkey though.
is there a berkey filter that cools the water as well? a google turned up nothing save for some other brands but I'd rather stick with berkey since it seems to be the best for the price.
Distilled water is minus any beneficial nutrients (minerals) naturally found in water. So as long as you just want to quench your thirst and nothing else I suppose it's okay.
It is really hard to remove fluoride from any water. This filter claims to do that, but if anyone has done any independent tests from the beginning to end or in the year time frame it would be great.
Since you get rain water you should be ok. No fluoride in there.
@ReprogramurMind If you go to the bigberkey website, the fluoride filters are a little extra, I think $40 for two. Well worth it IMO if you're filtering tap water, but unnecessary otherwise. Rain water....whodathunkit? Falls out of the sky and it's free.
The Berkey filter is better than nothing but I have noticed that the greenish scum that builds up on my faucets also builds up on the spout of my Berkey filter. Makes me wonder how effective it really is.
maybe it wasn't clean enough before you filled it. maybe you didn't maintain cleanliness controls (just like the lady in the video) and put your dirty hands all over the "clean" tank/parts when putting it together.
Black filters run about $99 for a set of 2. Good for about 6,000 gallons. The list of what it removes is way too long to mention here. PF-2 filters run about $59 for a set of 2. Good for about 1,000 gallons. It can filter water from lakes, steams, stagnant ponds... I love mine!
~HAHAHAHA Thanks Infowars/Berkey! I just got my Berkey w/ fluoride filters about an hour ago, built, primed and it all only took about one hour(Minus a test run or two)...ITS ALL DONE THAT'S IT!
~HAHAHAHAHA NO MORE New World Order poison for me.. Those suckers aren't taken me out that easy..day by day the New World Order loses its grip from my life, thanks again Berkey/Infowars!
I got about 2 weeks out of mines. I figured that the filters were bad. So I ordered new ones. And it still didn't work out for me. It could be a combination of the water quality and old pipes in my building. It sucks because I really liked my Berkey, for the time that it worked.
I knew by the taste of the water. I also had a friend of mine drink some. You know when you're drinking tap water versus bottled water. So i switched back to bottled water. I've checked many reviews. And I couldn't find anyone else that's had a negative experience like me.
Oh. That must suck... Anyway idk if its because of where you live.... i live in NY so i hope it wont happen to me cause im about to order a berkey water filter.
You're absolutely right. And I've been trying to warn everyone I know, that is walking blindly through the Matrix. Where's Superman when you need him? LOL
Wow, thanks for the response. I always wondered about this filter. Unfortunately I am no longer on rain catchment although I lived many years on rain catchment and loved it; except in the drought years... I am on city water which as you know fluoridates. Unfortunately only filtering drinking water is not good enough because you absorb just as much fluoride thru the skin from swimming, bathing and showering as you do by drinking it.
For every 60 seconds you spend in a pool, shower or bath it is the same as drinking an 8 ounce glass of fluoridated water so I need to filter my whole house. Which cost $4200.00 for the complete system. If you don't mind me asking; where are you on rain catchment? I did not think there where many places left in the US where folks were on catchment.

According to the instructions you should have the filters to the back and not over the pouring spout.

Distilled water is better used for batteries.

You have posted better directions on Youtube on how to put this thing together than Berkeley shipped with the box.

This is one reason they have Monsato lobbying to pass a bill making organic gardening illegal.

does it filter out fluoride/?
ZennLa13 3 years ago
You have to buy the optional PF2 filters. They connect to the bottom of the black berkey filters.
I own this model and love it to death.
One of the best purchases I have ever made in my life. I am 40.

So will this filter regular old pond water out of the box? That and how much are the filters?
teamhex 2 years ago
yes im sure it does filter out pond water. if you are unsure, u can always do what hikers do and add a few iodine tablets to kill the microorganisms.
jellofast 2 years ago
can u just buy the filters and make your own water container to save cash?
samking12 3 years ago
ya you can but you don't save much because the filters are the expensive part.

How much did you Berkey cost? $209 dollars?
EastWindRain 3 years ago
Heres an idea... wrap each filter stick in a nylon 1 micron filter bag.
Also if that light was ultra viloet light that would kill any residual bacterial in the water.

I live in a Los Angeles apartment building. My Berkey light didn't last long at all. I guess L.A. has the worst quality water.
