  • I helped produce that WCSH NewsCenter open when I was an engineer there, between 1974-1977. Jim Ross was the director, and we had just installed our new Vital master control switcher (yes, we did the live news show, all production, and master control from the same switcher!) that allowed us to do the effects for the open! We also had a new Chyron 2 for the graphics. The sound track came from the afternoon closed circuit news feed from NBC that went to all the affiliates .

  • @allen80602 Very neat! Thanks for sharing!

  • Maine's NewsCenter has always been well-respected for decades, and they're still very popular today.

  • John Dougherty with news; Barry Burbank with weather; Scott Wahle with sports. All three would eventually land at WBZ Boston.

  • @bostonmediaguy Not to be confused with WLBZ Bangor.

  • John Dougherty is now like a legend at channel 8 news which is the abc affiliate in maine.

  • Is John Dougherty still in the biz? I know he was at WBZ in Boston in the 90s...

  • John Dougherty was on WMTW (Channel 8) as the 6 pm anchor until they let him go about two years ago. It was fun to see this old shot of him--I'd never seen anything of him from that long ago.

  • OMG I graduated high school near Portland, in 1977.

  • Awesome vintage video! Could you possibly upload the whole entire 1977 Newcenter6 vintage news cast? Thank You! Anita

  • Unfortunately, I don't have the entire newscast- I think it cuts out during this first story. I'll have to check the original tape.

  • Ok. thank you very much for sending me an e-mail, of your responce. Anita

  • Hi!

Do you have the WCSH channel 6 television promo ads from the 1970's all the way to the 1980's? If you do, could you please post them all up on youtube? Thanks, Anita

  • Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to go through tapes recently. I don't know how much stuff I have of Channel 6 - my family owned a satellite dish starting in the mid 80s and taped programs off that rather than the local channels. I'll post anything interesting if I come across them though!
