Riposa in pace John Francis Jaco Pastorius II!
I had the great pleasure of meeting Jaco in Beverly Hills on Wilshire Blvd with a buddy back when we were in high school (1980's). We took pictures with him on the street doing that iconic "thumb" pose, then we sat with him while he and his trumpet player ate a quick salad before his show with the "Word OF Mouth Big Band" I saw "God" that day. He was my modern day "Jimmy Hendricks" By the way, to his credit, he was not high, very focused, laid back and cool.
Man, you did something amazing here. I'm so inspired to play again in watching this. This should be kind of corny or wrong, but you've done something visually that I don't quite understand and captured the spirit of the tune through the pictures and editing. I know you spent time time time time time doing this. Thanks.
I used to listen to this on the way gone from working in a music shop thinking 'these are the chords of life; beautiful, humorous, sad, joyous....' My fave WR tune for so many reasons. Your work shows you feel the same way about this tune as everyone else here, thanks so much for doing this. One of the most complete pieces, and a tune that makes me feel incredibly human.
Gracias Señor Juan Francisco Antonio "Jaco" Pastorius III. Thak You Mister John Francis Anthony "Jaco" Pastorius !!!!. Sorry for my bad english!!!!.
"THE perfect and divine universe occupies the center of all creation; it is the eternal core around which the vast creations of time and space revolve. Paradise is the gigantic nuclear Isle of absolute stability which rests motionless at the very heart of the magnificent eternal universe. My favorite tune by my favorite bass player Beutiful bass solo! Great photo montage, as well, I am wondering if Jaco was the most photographed human being in history? LOL
First of all, thank you very much for this tribute to one of the best. It must have been painstakingly hard work. However, it's hard to watch this video without thinking about what happened to Jaco in the end. I guess it's like that with any great artist who leaves us too soon. You always wonder what other music they had in their heads that wasn't able to be recorded.
Outstanding..thanks for taking the time...lots of pictures that I have never seen..great job!! Thanks again! Hope you play the bass as well as you edit vids.
An outstanding video to complement an other-worldly song. It doesn't get better. I've been listening to this since the radio station I worked at received a play copy just prior to the official release of Heavy Weather (76?). Everyone there was so excited to hear it, and realized how significant the recording was. Thanks.
This song always reminds me of my time in Paris. Walking the street late at night, admiring the amazing mix of tranquility and pulse of life that flowed though everything. Then I hear the twinkle of the cymble and Jaco comes in and I close my eyes and let the breeze brush against me.
I saw Jaco play this with his own small group in Atlanta, sometime with six-to-twelve months before he died. This is definitely my favorite WR song. I played drums in the college jazz band, so I had appreciation for the style and structure. Everything about it is perfect to me. Thanks for posting!
The top 5 bass players other than Jaco could spend their lives writing a solo for this song, and the day before they died they'd have just about come up with Jaco's solo.
Best song on Heavy Weather by far. Jaco is the king.
I agree with what you said about composing-skills, but this solo was not composed. It was constructed with edits from three different improvised takes.
Astounding video! The pictures were matched up just perfectly. I love how the magazines followed that descending 16th note run during Jaco's solo. Just awesome.
i'm almost speechless---this is by far the best clip i've ever seen associated with WR, Jaco, or Joe. i know this took a lot of time to do and your dedication shows through in this fitting work of art---thank you so much--i'm sure all the other fans of Jaco and Joe. will find this and shed a tear just like i did.
Very well done. I have to admit I got emotional during the part where you show Jaco walking up towards eternity(?). Have you shown this to the Pastorius family. I'm sure they'd love this.
This song composed by Jaco is a great background for his life isn't it?
I watched this totally speechless. You captured the essences of all that was and still is there with Jaco, Wayne, Joe, Alex as Weather Report. - Thank you. The power of that music still lingers on within me - masterful, creative and just so maginificent in all its beauty!
THANKS!!! You've shown skillful means and love towards a man who'll haunt many of us with the what could be's, what could've been's, what always was, what should never have been and, gladly, what simply is for all time!!!
You are to be commended:)!
