Bernstein is probably the top 4 or 5 interpreters of Mahler's music. And he's probably singularly responsible for resurrecting this incredibly great composer's music certainly in the US, if not in the world. The 9th is Mahler's greatest (symphony), IMHO. Thanks for posting.

It's sad to see that not even third of the viewers of the first part have listened to this part.

It sickens me that nowadays a piece of music that is 5 minutes is considered long - 7 minutes is way too long to some. People shouldn't be so 'busy', always hurrying to do the next thing and not delve into long works of art, whether books, music or movies.

I'm with you on this...our society is so condition to listening to things that are 2 minutes and less. I don't blame the average listener for holding this position, I'm just saddened that these forms of music are being thrown out without adequate consideration. I'm a "rock 'n' roller" and I'm giving it a shot...there is no reason why others can't give it a shot. It's a matter of desiring 'Art ' for it's own sake...

I agree wholeheartedly, and i am sad that i have to go to the museum for an assignment and prove your point. but i will be attending the Boston symphony orchestra's performance of this piece in february : ). hope that makes up for it.
