Great post. This movie has stood the test of time. Seeing it 35 years on - it's like old wine, matured with age.
There are so many shots that are gems in themelves, but I also love a lot of the cutting. Great score too.
A steam train passes and with it an age! But filmed in such a way that all the little things of life - things that seemed trivial and small then - stand out. The brilliance of the film makers is that they recognized the trivial would be so powerful later on!
Thanks for posting this and the first part as well. I remember in the mid to late seventies watching this movie at the Westrail pavilion every Perth Royal Show. You can't beat the majesty of steam locomotives.
Edit: I should have said, "The steel spine of nations." :)
