"At the ripe age of 14 or 15 they'll be cooking dinner for you." That's the truth. I love cooking and just a few days ago made dinner for my whole family.
Lol not me. I know how to cook! I'm Asian! My mom makes me stand by her every night at dinner. Hand me a cup of noodles and I'll make 20 different recipes.
@surfingsuicune tomatoes are a fruit because there are seeds inside. Berries are a fruit also. Yes, tomatoes are also berries because their seeds are suspended in that edible gel stuff, not separated out in a core or stone.
Odds are your cheap knives will break or rust over time and you'll spend just as much, if not more, replacing them over time than you would have spent if you'd just bought a single high-quality knife.
As a single parent, I have brought my child into the kitchen with me. While I dont let her deal with the cutting part yet (she's only 10 now), I do let her do most everything else. My mom taught me to be self sufficient in the kitchen, and I feel its my duty to do the same with my own child.
Totally...honing is for everyday use to straighten the blade (if you will)since it tends to lose its straightness with continued use. Sharpening is done when the blade is dull, and it has recommended to allow a professional handle that chore.
I'd disagree that a professional is required to sharpen a knife.
All you need is a set of stones with various grits and a little patience. Start with cheap knives and once you can put a nice razor-sharp edge on it, move to your nice knives.
Or buy a Spyderco Sharpmaker. I use it for all my pocket knives and my kitchen knives when I'm in a hurry and don't want to break out the benchstones.
No, no, That was to make sure she stayed out of the house longer so that he and Elton would have more time to make the sandwiches they wanted without interference.
That is one hard-core watch there AB. What is that thing? Anyone have a guess?
also, I can tell you... I am a fifth grade science teacher and those kids can't wait to learn to cook..they love it! (and Alton...they act like he is a rock star)
i went to see Alton at a book singing two years ago. he was spoke to the crowd the way he speaks in the show. he even mentioned wow, over the years, more and more children started watching. he seemed proud of that.
@TimTheReaper I may be 18 and a cook myself, but I was fortunate enough to grow up with a mom who emphasized teaching her children how to cook. I show her episodes of this show about things she makes, and she can predict pretty much every step of the process exactly. So......lucky.
my Mum was teaching me from before I can remember, she'd pull a chair up to the counter and I'd stand on that. then again I have friends who are in their 20's and they still can't cook.
That kid. Whoop his ass and make him eat dem peas.

pedicabdr1ver 3 years ago
That would be honing, not sharpening, if memory serves.
omfgapolarbear 3 years ago
Honing is the use of a steel to realign the edge of the knife. Your knife still has an edge, it just needs to be bent back to its original position.
Sharpening involves removing steel from your knife when there's no edge to create a new edge.
