Read his autobiography. Just because GnR's first album came out in 1987 doesn't mean they weren't together before that. In the early 80's and well into when GnR was together that Slash was a heroin junkie and a rampant alcoholic. Hope that clears it up. Oh before you say I'm wrong this comes from his autobiography.

Yeah, I think that is a fuckup! What they were trying to say is that guitar players in the '80's were using B.C. Rich, Jackson, and other "pointy" guitars. Slash himself used a B.C. Rich in the early '80's. He didn't use a Les Paul consistently until recording Appetite For Destruction.

The single cutaway is Les Paul. That is what he liked and that is what Gibson went with. Angus did play an sg but is more famous for his Gretsch. Gretsch made a signature model in his honor. IMO, the SG makes a nice doorstop. It is ugly and lacks what a strat can do. It also lacks the beautiful sound a LP standard puts out. The SG is pretty much made for garage metalheads. It just works! Same stereotype can be made for the telecaster being a country machine. Some things just work a certain way.

Les Paul didn't design the SG, Gibson did because they wanted a lighter solid-body guitar to compete with Fender. Les Paul didn't like it, so it was renamed and kept in production.

No he didn't design it. When sales for the Les Paul were still really low and Gibson wanted to make a lighter guitar to compete with the Strat they designed the SG. Les Paul didn't like it, so his name was taken off. That's the story in every book I've read so far, or else they've been very close to that.
