Bessie Smith, Roberta Flack, Janis Joplin, Etta James, & Thelma Houston apparently went to the same school. I detest DISCO; yet, if it were all this blissful, I might be able to make major compromises. Great nugget! TY for posting!
We had so much fun going out dancing back then! I'd get home from work, go right to sleep, wake up at 11 and go out dancing all night til it was time to go home and shower for work. Enchanted Gardens, Jouissance, Elephas, can't even remember them all, but I do remember the fun.
Her live performance at the "Apolo" a couple of years ago was so much better than this! She still has it going on!! This is my favorite of all Disco' songs!!
Poor Thelma. With that fabulous voice & kickass song, singing her heart out in front of a buncha dance-challenged Germans who are just standing there clapping to the song. NO ONE IS DANCING!! wtf?
@bootsamou I sooo agree! I was fortuneate enough to have seen Thelma perform waaaay back then! She sounded, as she does in this video, not just as good as the record, but better! A great talent from Long Beach, California!
I am SOOOOO glad I found this song tonight. I haven't heard it in a long time!
still like a lot of Disco music among others. What a great artist. God Bless her
& you too trevinoscell. Brings me back to when my older brother (God rest his soul) & I went to our 1 time disco dance. It was great, but I got very tired. They
wouldn't let you sit & I had back problems. But it was a blast!
this woman had some voice. this was what disco was all about during that dance crazy time. men actually wore suits (knew how to imperial) and the girls dressed up so darn hot! sing it Thelma, do it girl!
Thelma Houston is an absolute master entertainer. Early on in the song she picked up on the crowd's hand clap and started to move with it. At 2:03 she just breaks sidewards across the stage - that is fabulous. The crowd really enjoyed it and T. Houston was clearly having a great time, too.
Simple Charming Elegant musician with a wonderful voice. Heard it for the first time on radio and it sank right down to my heart and moved rattled my soul. Beautiful bass and lyrics.
@comicstew ooops! Thanx comicstew, for catching my mistake - I goofed! Sometimes I write too much too fast about too many artists in a row. You're so right! My comment is about the great Thelma Houston! (Not Gloria Gaynor). Thelma Houston is FABULOUS isn't she?! She and that audience really connected.
I am 10 years old...and I love her song so much...I sing and my forte are 70's and that of the Motown Singers...you are right Black people can sing and I love them,I idolize them.
@Coventrey With today's youth into all sorts of junk these days...I actually find it quite refreshing that a ten year old girl is looking up Thelma Houston on You-Tube! If she's really 10 years old, she's got one hell of an ear for music, no?
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whenever I hear the beginning of this song (when Thelma hums) I could almost wet my pants!!!!!!!!! Tee-Hee! I LOVE THIS THING!!!! Give me 70s DISCO any day...Our youth can keep Lady Ga-Ga for all I care...Never thought I'd be so glad to be 48 years old!!!! HA!
@RadioBull black people dominated one of the greatest if not the greatest era for music this world have ever seen, but they introduced crack to take them down, now we are just left with crackhead music from jay-z and asses like p diddy.
Great song!! And she's NOT lip-synching in this clip!! (Don't know about the wardrobe, though...Looks like they dragged her out of the shower to do the clip! But hey! It's the seventies!! haha!!!)
this was the real music in my time when i was 15 years old i really got to dance the disco this one special ....i do love the song but i would'nt beg to a man not to leave me..hehehehe.....thelma houston..gloria gaynor...alicia briges..were the best from that time ...i got stuck with their music ...i just love it ...well donna summer was wonderful .bee gees what can i say music is universal.....love them all.....
The fact that she's bra-less cracks me up. My Mom used to do that, I can't believe ladies used to be that way. It was really not attractive, but it shows that the world was much more carefree than it is now. People are so uptight I can't stand it.

Thelma deperately needed a different wardrobe consultant for this gig. With that all-creme colored outfit, shiny face and oversized headwrap she looks like Aunt Jemima. Instead of singing a great rock & soul classic she looks like she should be making a batch of buttermilk biscuits.
Ah, I totally disagree...this back-in-the-day clip shows a beautiful vocalist on top of her game in a rather classy ensemble. I think she looks beautiful. To each her own, I guess.
