  • I'll tell you this: I have more respect for her than I do for Whitney Houston. Thelma wasn't a nut-job like Whitney. Believeth Thou It!

  • if todays performers would think outside mainstream...they would have a huge hit on their hands if they had this kind of music

  • this is a great song, I see a lot of drag queens doing this song.

  • this is an amazing live performance!!

  • best disco song ever.

  • Great clip and song. Thanks for posting.

  • I love this song's bass-kicking line !

  • That was brilliant! :) The lady could really SING!

My Mom bought the 45, and played it almost daily. Reminds me of being a little girl, in the spring of '77.

  • Best song eveeeeer!!!!

  • To all you pro wrestling fans out there (like myself): This was the #1 song in the USA when John Cena came into the world (April 23, 1977).

  • NO LIPSYNCH???????????

  • if i would have been in that audience i would be wreckin it , i love this song sooo much greate voice bad sound system xx

  • @americansize0 yea me too...but i was born in 1982 so too bad for me! I would only be able to join in in 2002.

  • Bessie Smith, Roberta Flack, Janis Joplin, Etta James, & Thelma Houston apparently went to the same school. I detest DISCO; yet, if it were all this blissful, I might be able to make major compromises. Great nugget! TY for posting!

  • they need to clap on every OTHER beat....not on every beat of the song.

  • Blah ba da, blah ba dah, Thelma Houston!

  • We had so much fun going out dancing back then! I'd get home from work, go right to sleep, wake up at 11 and go out dancing all night til it was time to go home and shower for work. Enchanted Gardens, Jouissance, Elephas, can't even remember them all, but I do remember the fun.

  • Wonderful song and a classy lady! Bravo!

  • This is the Disco Era's National Anthem!!

  • WOW, THIS HAS ME "CHAIR DANCING" LMBO! LOVE IT OH MY THE CLOTHES AND HAIR DON'TS BACK THEN

  • not real, playback .... awful .... no wonder the crowd isn't reacting to it .

  • What is wrong with that crowd....they seem lifeless? It must be hard to perform for such dead acting people.

  • God I Love This Beautiful Diva!!

Her Performance at the Apolo a couple of years ago,

Was "amazing"!! Stocking the Stage in "stelletos" Dam.

She sings Whitney Under the Table!!

  • super! que de souvenirs !!!!!!

  • The Audience are Germans they have no English! Pretty up tight group eh?

  • what the hell is wrong with this audiance!

i would be up dancing my ass off!

    thelma........

  • Unhippest Crowd EVER.

  • Her live performance at the "Apolo" a couple of years ago was so much better than this! She still has it going on!! This is my favorite of all Disco' songs!!

  • Poor Thelma. With that fabulous voice & kickass song, singing her heart out in front of a buncha dance-challenged Germans who are just standing there clapping to the song. NO ONE IS DANCING!! wtf?

  • @grlzwillbegirlz They do the same thing in Boney M clips, who were huge in Germany. Very weird!

  • Incredible! Thelma could SING!

  • Yessssssssss!!!!! One of the best disco songs of all time!

  • Wow ! What a great LIVE performance !

    Such a great voice.

  • @bootsamou I sooo agree! I was fortuneate enough to have seen Thelma perform waaaay back then! She sounded, as she does in this video, not just as good as the record, but better! A great talent from Long Beach, California!

  • too late...

  • @000MYSZ999 sorry............and its never too late

  • perfect chorus

  • Love this romantic song ^^

  • Anyone know when this was recorded?

  • I am SOOOOO glad I found this song tonight. I haven't heard it in a long time!

still like a lot of Disco music among others. What a great artist. God Bless her

& you too trevinoscell. Brings me back to when my older brother (God rest his soul) & I went to our 1 time disco dance. It was great, but I got very tired. They

wouldn't let you sit & I had back problems. But it was a blast!

  • When you think of Classic Disco, this song has got to be in the mix.

  • @RadioBull yea they learned how to from those years singing secret codes on the underground railroad

  • @JustCallMeFox lol yeah right huh.

  • @RadioBull AND CAN DANCE TOO

  • I can understand syncopated clapping but whoever;s clappin at 2:21 is throwin me off!!!! lol

  • @ekimzaga Loks like the one with blonde hair like a bird´s nest and thick-framed glasses. Stupid woman.

  • @JoeDuveen rofl

  • thelma houston que linda morena y que tal voz aprendan esos cantantes de ahora,,,

  • this woman had some voice. this was what disco was all about during that dance crazy time. men actually wore suits (knew how to imperial) and the girls dressed up so darn hot! sing it Thelma, do it girl!

  • Love,love,love this tune.One of my favorites...........

  • Don't you understand I'm at your command

Oh baby please, please don't leave me this way!!

  • The bass on this song is soooo sick

  • Thelma Houston is an absolute master entertainer. Early on in the song she picked up on the crowd's hand clap and started to move with it. At 2:03 she just breaks sidewards across the stage - that is fabulous. The crowd really enjoyed it and T. Houston was clearly having a great time, too.

  • saigon-lames......

  • euros r so weird

  • sexy by definition.

  • Alltime greatest Disco song EVA! It Still gets people movin!

  • awesome! love it!

  • Did thelma gett out of shower to sing to the crowd....she ready 4 bed...lol....fab song and singer ..

  • @RadioBull DUH!

  • Yes indeed no one can sing like a black person (and I'm white).

I miss this era so much.

  • great live rendition--sista got pipes

  • @hitomusic It's Thelma Houston as it says at the top of the page and during the video, not Gloria Gaynor.

  • @comicstew ooops! Thanx comicstew, for catching my mistake - I goofed! Sometimes I write too much too fast about too many artists in a row. You're so right! My comment is about the great Thelma Houston! (Not Gloria Gaynor). Thelma Houston is FABULOUS isn't she?! She and that audience really connected.

  • sexy strong disco song to groove to!

  • The scarf, half turban half gypsy is wrapped beautifully around her head - and oh great song too

  • i love this songs like this.the 70's 80's were a great decade for music.

  • I am 10 years old...and I love her song so much...I sing and my forte are 70's and that of the Motown Singers...you are right Black people can sing and I love them,I idolize them.

  • @MsNikita72 You're TEN years old??? Get off the internet and go do something more productive, child.

  • @Coventrey With today's youth into all sorts of junk these days...I actually find it quite refreshing that a ten year old girl is looking up Thelma Houston on You-Tube! If she's really 10 years old, she's got one hell of an ear for music, no?

  • @MsNikita72 Keep listening to 70s disco music! There are so many good songs and artists out there just waiting for your generation to discover!

  • @MsNikita72 love that you're forte at the age of ten is the 70s and motown! keep it up!

  • @MsNikita72 You stick at it kid :-)

  • I think I've got the bass nailed down pretty solid, I'm posting a cover soon! Love this song!

  • Go on Thelma you rock, now we know where Whitney gets her voice from Love you

  • the most beautifull song, super woman. watch my chanell and sub

  • A superb vocal performance.

  • Sing live!

  • @RadioBull black people dominated one of the greatest if not the greatest era for music this world have ever seen, but they introduced crack to take them down, now we are just left with crackhead music from jay-z and asses like p diddy.

  • @drfager01 That's Funny.LOL

  • Damn.. They just don't make music this way anymore :(

  • This is why I don't watch American Idol. What we have here is a consummate pro at the top of her game. And she moves... oh so sexy.

  • @RadioBull - you know it.

  • @RadioBull not these days and i'm black very few out today can sang

  • @goldenroberson84 - yeah, they've lost the....'pain' in their voices. They got it too easy these days. Shake y'ass, make a hit.

Back then: apartheid, segregation, struggles - makes voices stronger.

  • This song brought lots of memories back to my teenaged years, I love this Classic song...

  • She sings FLAWLESSLY, I'm just floored!

  • She's just ravishing. This is one of only about a half dozen disco songs I can even listen to, but it is devastating.

  • absolutely adore this song but that clapping is really super annoying.

  • yea and the clapping is way off

  • @jeweladdict1972 just a little like Radetzky March...-)

  • classic! soulful funky track, and she's a goddess.......

  • Great song!! And she's NOT lip-synching in this clip!! (Don't know about the wardrobe, though...Looks like they dragged her out of the shower to do the clip! But hey! It's the seventies!! haha!!!)

  • Thanks I love this song!

  • Querida Patsy, Dom't leave me this way Ever, OK. Enjoy this song. I Love you just a little bit more. xoxoxo (-: You started this fire!

  • Thelma kicks butt on this one! Such an underrated singer!

  • The fact that she's bra-less cracks me up. My Mom used to do that, I can't believe ladies used to be that way. It was really not attractive, but it shows that the world was much more carefree than it is now. People are so uptight I can't stand it.

  • I am 54 and still go bra less and look good, yo!

  • Always loved this song. the rhythm makes me wanna dance...but the lyrics make me wanna cry..if youve ever been in love you know what shes talkin about

  • God I love this song and the bass grove!!!!!

  • Ah, I totally disagree...this back-in-the-day clip shows a beautiful vocalist on top of her game in a rather classy ensemble. I think she looks beautiful. To each her own, I guess.

  • This song was no.11 in the world-year-end-charts in 1976

  • Dont Leave Me This Way

  • This one of my favorite songs ever

  • Gotta love that crawlin' bass

  • The sister brings it, hard!

  • I've always loved this song! And I'm a heavy metal musician.Shhh. don't tell no one.

  • they used to be able to sing...not anymore since rap came out.....love this song.....love the bathrobe look....nice touch

  • What a beautiful voice!

  • At the time there was another version by Harold Melvyn which I thought was much better, am I the only person who remembers this? can't find it anywhere!

  • Shedhead777 .its all over U-Tube..Type it in

  • I like Thelma's groovy style & choice of dress with matching belt.

  • ahaha mermaid..shes deffo just got outta the bath!!

  • Who would want to admit being related to Whitney Houston.

  • Incredible!!! Go Thelma!!!!!!
