Guys, she's been writing music the same way, and explaining her process the same way since she's been giving interviews. Try to describe music to someone with words, try to describe the feeling, or the process of songwriting. It's hard, that's why we have notation to visualize music, but with words, we have inflated terms that only people who study music would know. She's giving you layman's terms, layman's feelings. It's a gift, and only uncomfortable to uncomfortable people. She's real.
Her explanation of her song writing process has stayed very consistent throughout her career. So if she seems sincere, it is because she is. She's one of the few commercially successful artists in our time who truly feel what perform. I think that's what I love most about her.
You know, I was sitting watching this and thinking, "Tori, I love you, but what the fuck are you talking about?!" and then half way through, I -got- it. This only happens with Tori. She's such a goddess.
yonosoyana, you know..when you are listening to Tori's interviews, you should know, that she is unique and not like the girl next door..so i think she isn't high or drunk..she is as intelligent as always..you know, she wants to describe, what is going on when the song walks in..so when you know her for so long you should know that tori is just tori!
I love the way she talks about her songs..she describes us how to write a tori-song..that's totally awesome!..NOw we can imagine what is happening with tori when she is writing a new song..I think it's very important to know this..:)I wished she would tell us more about this theme :)
This reminds me a lot of how you hear math geniuses describe how they perceive numbers - it would make sense that Tori, having been a child prodigy on the piano may have a similar relationship to music. Plus math and music are closely related.
was she drunk?.. did she get a surgery? really! I've never seen tori like that before, it seems that she's high or something. I really love her music before TB... now with ADP.. I'm not completely sure, but still I like it, not as much as her four first albums though.
Great concepts & experience here in finding words to describe the creative process, making something out of nothing, taking the spark of an idea & finding the next puzzle pieces to finish the song. I love hearing how my favorite artist's receive their magic. It all comes from the same non tangible place & it's an amazing gift to play with. The interviewer asked, she answered. I've met Tori & she's cool, personable & funny. I love her music.
You start talking about something that completely fills your mind, body, and soul, something you live and breathe for something that makes you endure....and we'll see how crazy you sound. ;)
Tori is very synesthetic which means the way she perceives certain sesnsations (music for example) is expereinced as a cross fusion ebtween other sense. To be able to feel and discover music in this fashion is such a gift.
I love Tori to death, but I kind of have to agree. She does seem a little...um...out there and self-absorbed with these recent explanations about her songwriting process. XD Still, she's bloody amazing and I love her music. I didn't really like "The Beekeeper", though. Blagh.
I love her music but I can't stand how she talks about herself and her "process." She just comes across as so self-absorbed, like she's the first person in the world who's ever figured out how to write a song.
Self-absorbed? Well, sure. She was asked about her way of figuring out a song, and is therefore absorbed in explaning herself. How is it that her explaning how she composes music, and a description of the process implicitly saying, "I'm the first to figure out how to write a song"? I don't get your perception. At. All. Is it because of the way she talks? You judge her based on something superficial it seems.
well she's not talking about herself really. she's talking about what happens when a song starts coming to her. I think a lot of artists feel like they are just tapping into a being that is already there and they have to figure it out. I mean there's no room for an ego within the artistic process, which I think makes it a soul-wrenching and enlightening experience.

she's alllllllllllllways like that

It could seem that way because she loves to talk about her craft. But she's very accessible on late night show interviews and the like.
