The Real silent hill fans, will say that Silent hill 1,2, 3 and Yes even the Room was special. I don't know why many people think that Shattered memories was actually better then the original Silent hill and better then this 1 ??? . If you're really a silent hill fan, i don't know how you can say that Silent hill Shattered memories is one of the best out there. Even Homecoming has more Silent hill element then Shattered memories

@SlaGanniYer I enjoyed Shattered Memories because it offered something a little different (that and I hated the combat/controls in Homecoming). Returning to the original game in the series and changing things up a little was something that I appreciated. It wasn't a bad game but you're right, it doesn't touch the early half of the series. 2, 3, 1, The Room for me, in that order. Everything else just kinda floats around somewhere below them.

My own critiques against this game would be these:

1. Not enough isolation- most Silent Hill games have a partner, yes, but a kind of 'team work' system really doesn't work for a game like Silent Hill. You've gotta maintain the illusion of isolation.

2. Obviously inspired by the movie, which doesn't work (I personally liked the movie, but yeah.)

3. Less flashy combat- it's okay Alex is a soldier (cough) but it's gotta feel more helpless.

and... I'm running out of room.

4. The aesthetic issues:

-The Otherworld looks a bit too hellish- also from the movie. However, the Otherworld is meant to be dark and dank, not hot and fiery.

-In previous Silent Hills, facial animations looked superb. Whatever happened to that?

-Some of it looks too game-y, like turning the camera stiffly to an objective so you know what to do- instead of pointing it out in a more subtle way like the previous games.

-Come to think of it, that's mostly what this game lacks: subtlety.

Well I loved SIREN BLOOD CURSE, Same producer as silent hill made that game, You play as different Helpless characters in a TV crew, And the outerworld/buildings Look realistic and believable, It's pitch black and you got a flash light. Just like silent hill, But I think the camera is nicer in SIREN Over the choulder, 3rd person, or 1st person, And nice graphics, Has that twist in the storyline too, There's even a movie! XD

Actually, no. If you play each Silent Hill game the otherworld is different in each one. Silent Hill 2's is damp, moldy. Silent Hill 1's is rusty and bloody... Silent Hill 3's is rusty, bloody, organic... Silent Hill Homecoming's is industrial, mechanical. It symbolises the founding families' vision of Hell, as they believe they're damned due to the failed ritual.

The Silent Hill movie's otherworld is a mix up of Silent Hill 1 and 3's... Homecoming's doesn't resemble it much at all.

Yes, they are different, but none of them were 'fiery'. However, the movie's Otherworld has some fiery and industrial elements, and that's the main influence I see from the movie. Granted, Homecoming has its own look for the most part (except the nurses, who look exactly like the movie).

I suppose I can see that symbolism, but most likely it's just the way the developers saw the Otherworld. My main reason for disliking it is that it just isn't as creepy or atmospheric in my opinion.

homecoming and the first silent hill are the best ones hands down.

everybody denied this game and didn't even give it a chance just because the gameplay changed. so everyone who says this game sucks probably only played the first 5 minutes of it. I do agree. The begining was a bit boring. But it got really good later in the game when you go to Silent Hill with Wheeler and Elle. This Silent Hill is fucking gold. If you don't think so then hows about you just kiss my white ass.

I have to agree with those arguments, but I also agree with you that this game definitely doesn't deserve the flack it's getting.

It's got a good story that isn't a copy of the other games, is still very scary, and is overall a well-played attempt at a Silent Hill game by a different team. It doesn't QUITE cut it, but it's still great. :D

When you get to Silent Hill on the boat you have to collect two gems, a Turquoise and Garnet, one of which is in the cemetery behind a wall you can break with the axe. The other one is in a sink in the toluca lake office building before you go to the power plant. There are two other gems around, sapphire and bloodstone useless though at this point so ignore them. When you have both go back to the cemetery and put them in the Janus statue which will drop a key to the moon garden in the cemetery.
