Hi there, i noticed that there is no CD/mp3 input in the RP1000, is it possible to use the windows media player and the RP connected to the usb to play along with mp3 or even youtube videos? (i use windows vista) Thanks!
@JacksonKV2FTW To start with the guitar I played has a sitar bridge which produces half of the effect then I use a phaser and a plate reverb which soudns by itself real cheesy but helps to bring out the string razzling effect of the sitar
I was wondering if you could help out with this: If one uses mainly the amp´s preamp and the rp100 as a pedalboard, could one still change from one setting with this set up to another setting with amp modelling, just by pressing one button? Or do you have to press the amp/cabinet bypass?
yes you certainly can. Literally anything on the RP including amp/bypass buttom can be assigned to a preset. So one preset can be the sound of your real amp while another can be the RPs preamp and the poweramp of your real amp....
@guitarran The Expression function can be assigned to literally any parameter you find in the RP...it can be an effect volume or an effct parameter or the gain of your amp or the pre volume post volume maybe just the amp models volume....possibilities are endless.
Not all factory presets have a parameter pre assigned......read the section in the manual and you get to use this quite easily
This is what I love about digitech it lets you run parallel lines so you can "hear" clearly the original signal without drowning the signal with digital effects.
@StratBanez101 If you mean ping pong delay so you have a different repeat pattern left right yes it does....if you mean a separate delay left and right no I am afaraid it doesnt.
@tool111saul I am sure he meant it in a funny way.....reading all of the comments about my person sometimes make me mad most of the time it is funny and when you are a youtube presenter you have to take comments into consideration. I mean after all my hair is 80s...totally....but so what it is about the product not about me
love your videos really informative and persuasive, I was Wondering if you could tell me if the RP1000 can hold its own as a Standalone Modelling pedal, because I don't have an amp that I can use for gigs so I rely on Direct to P.A pedals currently I have a zoom G2.1u and now am considering upgrading to either the POD X3 Live, Boss GT-10 or the RP1000. And I can't try them out personally I live in Pakistan and music stores no longer stock such devices, so they are brought in on order
@LIVEMONSTER Actually I love the direct sound of the RP 1000......I dont mean to advertise my CD but check out the teasers especially the rhythm sounds are mainly done using the RP.....Ralf Jung Art of Pop on itunes or CD Baby or my webpage.
The trick using it live is to have a fullrange monitor instead of a amp if you need extra control or have somebody else being dominant in your monitors.....that way you can control the public PA sound better.....and have a better overall feel

ralf, thanks for posting this b/c it's what swayed me to buy the rp 1000. I LOVE IT! anyway i was wondering if i could pick your brain. i have the rp running just the way you do and i use the amp/cabinet bypass more than i dont. i read the manual about the chain, pre/post and not sure why the GATE doesnt work in that config? i have the amp loop on and amp/cab bypass on. the chorus only works post and sounds like #hit!. i read the manual and it says nothing about this. can you shed light? thanks!
@MilitaryBros This guitar has a bridge which is actually set up so the strings rattle against it and create that sitar ringing...then I use a phaser and some reverb to emphasize this effect.....the Digitech Dan Donegan pedal actually has a sitar emulation on a preset that works with any normal guitar...check that out the pedal is disctoninued so it should be cheap in stores on on ebay....
@homebiscuit1994 Option 1 go to the preset which already has Whammy and change it to your liking. Option go to Modulation row activate the Whammy and select the Whammy program you want. Then go down to the expression row select Pedal as link and min 0 and max 99 (you see what I mean when you are in this row). Save this to the preset. The Whammy is only on when you engage the V Switch which sits in the toe position of the pedal. Raise the sensitivity higher if you switch it on accidently
Hi Ralf, I have a question for you. I have researched a lot of tube amps lately, and some of them (MESA for example) mention that the effects loop cables should be less than 3 feet one way (6 feet total for send/return), otherwise there will be noticeable degradation in tone. If I use RP1000 on stage with the 4 cable method, I am sure the send/return loop from the amp will be something like 30 feet (15 feet one way) at the minimum. Do you think this could be a problem? Awesome review, BTW
Well yes and no. First of all I think you are right when we talk about that cable coming from the guitar output. The whole behaviour changes when you are past the first amplifier stage than 6m cables are no problem. Also it matters what kind of cable you are using. The first cable cant be good enough (Klotz Titanium, Vovox, Elixier cable or something similar) but then good solid instrument cables will not effect the sound as each in or output after the guitar output is amplified in some way
Hello, I need help please, have one rp1000 sometimes when I touch with distorción there appears a very sharp(acute) and troublesome sound as a feedback I have tried to remove it lowering the gain of the distorcion or withnoise gate, but not that will be.
Thanks for the reply, I mainly use my Line 6 Spider Valve half stack with 4x12 Celestions in the cab! I do alot of recording with it in my Logic Express 9 for my Mac. I do alot of Death and Heavy Metal. I have the money for both, even if I have to get the foot controller for the GSP.
Dude, really nice job! I know you have probably answered this question already, but, im torn between the GSP 1101, and the RP 1000, Can you help me out?!
Depending on your focus I would pick the one or the other.....are you hopping between direct and amp usage all the time and are you using more than one amp like a combo at rehearsals a halfstack for live and direct for studio then use the GSP> Basically the sound is almost alike on the machines so far the RP has more models but with some extra software (freeware you can get these models for the GSP as well) and I am sure soon officially anyway. The GSP needs the Control 2 to be remote controlled
@Guitary007 the easiest way to get this is buying a used Dan Donegan pedal of Digitech I think it is called "the weapon"...it is discontinued so you can get it cheap on preset 6 it has a fantastic sitar sound...with the RP255 it is not possible I am sorry
Hola Rolanda...Digitech gives you a spanish manual and it is already online so you can download it right now and start reading. On top of this there is Diego from Argentina who creates great Digitech videos in spanish. I believe he has a few RP1000 demos up in youtube. Once you have set it up correctly it is straight ahead. You already know the matrix from the GNX3 all you need to learn is the different concept and how to set it up with your existing equipment.
I have been shopping systems like this for a bit now and have it narrowed down to 2. Great job on the videos for this. Definitely has helped in the decision making.
not all of those are mine...it is fun to play a different guitar every once in a while though...to a certain amount the guitar is playing you as well as you play the guitar if you know what I mean
I wont tell you which distortion is better this is a very personal statement and I want you to make that decision by yourself. I just give you proper reviews of pedals here to help you decide ok?
The RP1000 functions with a solid state amp - no problem
i'm concidering this as an alternative to my massive pedalboard. I want to use my tube amp's preamp (not into modeling). so can i plug the rp1000 into my amp so the delay and reverb goes to my amp loop and the other effects go into the front of my amp?
For me they work great...just like with a modern tube amp. If you use a more vintage style amp the dynamics are more obvious and work more sensitive...I am pretty impressed
that sounds great =D. Have you ever played a podx3? It feels like it's lacking the dynamic contrast when i roll the volume down and the tone thins out
Yes I did and what you say is true especially if you use high gain sounds...but this effect also takes place with a few modern amps. I learned to use a distortion box in front of any amp so when you roll down the volume knob the thinnening part is not so drastic...of course this needs to be a good pedal
I am in the happy position to own a GNX3000 and GNX4 which I use whenever I use a Strat. For the mahagony based guitars I like the RP1000 best....also with a real tube amp the RP is the one I go for.
The RP1000 is when it comes to the amps and FX the same like the 500...the 355 have a few models less but the sound is almost the same (when using the quarter inch outputs....the XLR sound a bit better to my ears)
no I am sorry...since this pedal is designed for the pro users which very likely have computers drum machines or real drummers Digitech didnt incorparate a drum machine....if you want that you must look at the GNX4 or the RP355...both of those machines dont have the amp and stomp loop though
Pls forgive me if I dont answer that question as it would be my opinion which is not critical for you....you should decide and answer that question as it is your money you spend and you have to live with the unit
@forgottendforever- I have had both units- year -the amp modeling was not as good as the rp1000 - gt 10 is more computer friendly as far as putting amps and effects where you want them but I think the Digitech sounds and responds much more like a real amp- in 3 days of playing with the rp1000 I got more work done than I did in the whole year I had the gt10- the gt10 felt like I was fighting to get a good sound -the rp 1000 was there almost immediately - hope this helps -thanks Ralf
The biggest difference is that you can use X Edit with 1.2 and the streaming works a little better. So it is just an update on the connectivity due to the update of Apple and Windows platforms...it doenst chqnge the sound of the RP
2. git - Preamp of amp - FX section of RP - Poweramp
3. git - RP preamp - FX section of RP - poweramp
these are only 3 options of many others. Remember than you can use the stomploop to incorparate a preamp pre or post....you can completely bypass the RP preamp and just use FX&distortions....the distortions in that case would be pre and the FX would be post...this in combination with the stomploop gives you many options
well,i have a question you may have already been asked a million times,but.. :P
is the amp modelling in front of your amplifier? (i mean in the input, not in the effects loop). What i want to do is use the rp 1000's amp modelling (especially marshall and mesa models) but bend/stack it with my amp's preamp in order not to lose the preamp valve warmth, and also use the time based effects in the loop. So... do the amps models go straight into the poweramp section ?thx
please look on the answer above....the preamp of the RP can be placed before your amplifiers preamp or it can be after going direct into the poweramp....
I still want to know if theres any RP1000 fan site where you can dowload presets approaching bands, but my problem with the Expression Pedal is already solved..
one more thing... what should be the valour in the pedal when the V-shift is established????, I think I saw "94" in mine and I´m also afraid it´s too loose, I mean, whenever I press it to the end, the wah deactivates how can I solve that..
I need a little help. I bought one 6 months ago, and didn´t have time for it until now. I only tried the presets a couple of times. Today, I upgraded it to version 1.2, checked X-edit2, and finally noticed the Expression Pedal stopped working... Do you know why?? ... and... is there any big bank of presets to download anywhere with band emulations?
I just made a few videos in spanish and gave them to the spanish distributor Backline out of Barcelona....you can also look for Diego Mizrahl out of Argentina who is a Digitech endorsed player which makes lots of spanish...well Argentinian videos...he is a good player and a funny man as much as I can tell....Argentinian is kind of hard for me and he speaks fast....
After seeing yr very informative RP 1000 demos & vids on YouTube,
having browsed various guitar mag reviews, went to some online user forums, heard lots of sound clips online ,etc, I have finally decided to buy the goddamn thing! For the first time in years my complete setup just sounds great!! I just wonder why it has taken so long before someone came up with the idea of combining front-amps effects together with modeling & effects into the amplifiers loop. It just makes so much sense!.
Absolutely. Thinking about upgrading my current rig consisting of GNX4 going into Atomic Amp 112. It sounds good, but the feel/response/dynamics of amp modeler is not up to par with a real tube amp. Anyways, I have decided to upgrade to a real tube amp. Also need good effects and switching system to go with it. The RP1000 is awesome for that. Just wish that they had an amp channel control capability as well, just like TC Electronic G system. It would be PERFECT then. Ultimate control and sounds.
hi, well my playing level atm is intermediate, im still taking classes, the rest of my gear, i got an ibanez GRG170DXL and i´m still waiting for my new guitar that is a BC rich Warlock NT, my amp is not very good its a micro cube 15w, need to get a new one aswell, do you recommend RP500 or 1000 cuz i might be interested in one of them, just need to know what fits more on my playing level
They both fit your playing level - I mean it is better to adapt future equipment to existing equipment. When you look at the 1000 your amp needs a effect loop to get maximum effect since a few effects of the 1000 will be in front of the amp and some are in the effect loop and some sounds will just use the poweramp of this amplifier.
The RP500 lives in front of the amp all the time....this should make the decision I guess
this is hard to answer since I dont know your playing level and the rest of your equipment. If your budget is sort of "a couple od bucks" I strongly recommend the Black 13...if you are using a real amplifier get the RP500 or 1000...if you are a total pro guitar player get the GSP1101 plus the Control 2.....do you like stompboxes to beef up your amp go for the Metal Distortion of the Hardwire series
What is the speed like when switching presets? I have a GNX2 and I remember a big problem that people, myself included was there was a noticable delay when switching presets for example if you had to switch from a clean to a more distorted sound (that you couldn't just use a stompbox model for) where you couldn't really have time to mute the guitar. Also nice guitars
I don't think it is possible but would I be able to integrate my amp channel switch into the RP 1000.? (Eliminating the need for the amp's external footswich) and therefore integrate the amp channel switching into a patch of the RP 1000. I think thats about the only thing missing on the RP 1000
Sorry no this is not possible. You need to change the ampchannel manually....it is a feature Digitech discussed a lot but since the amp manufactorers do have all sort of different ways to switch their channels it is almost impossible to add this feature wihout disappointing users out there (i.g Fender uses 3 ways Marshall even 5 ways....)
Just to stress that out...that guitar already sounds like a sitar since it has a special bridge...but the FX I used are phaser to imitade the narrow frequency of a sitar some slap back delay and a very bright and dense reverb
I use a lot of software amp modeling software (Revalver, Amplitube, etc...). So if I understand correctly, this unit should be usable in the following way; plug guitar into RP1000, plug the unit's audio out in my firewire audio interface, bypass the RP1000's amp and cab simulations, capture the interface's output with the amp software.
That way I should be able to model the amp software wise, but still enjoy the stompbox effects from the RP1000 right?
Git into RP1000 then use the audio output of the RP1000 and plug those into your firewire interface and record the sounds. This way you need the amp and cab simulation.
The software is used to remote control the RP. Btw the RP also features a USB interface...your DAW should recognize it.
If you have a clean Git already recorded you can use the RP to reamp....you can also send a ampsignal out of your DAW into the RP and add stompboxes...
This machine is awesome , but i just have one question , i hope you can answer, this rp as well as the other rp models has fx, distor, amp , eq , etc etc.
My question is, the delay fa before or after distor/amps ?
i hope you can clear my doubt , thanks for your awesome demo
This unit has something over 100 amps stomboxes effects and Eqs.....the signal chain is...git-rp input-wah-compressor-distortion-modulation(pre)-amp/cab-modulation(post)-delay-reverb....although you can only use one modulation per preset you can position it pre or post distortion...the dealy is always after distortion. If you need a delay before the distortion use the stompboxloop
ok i have a rp90 and a fender deluxe 900 amp it has a footswitch plug in in the back and an input output in the back as well. how should i connect it all i have two cables.
Please see my videos and eventually download the manual to learn how this goes. Missing cables shouldnt be a problem I heard there are stores which sell cables!
Dont be mad at me but please dont be lazy and look at the videos and and the manual and dont let me do all the work for you ok?
Hello !! please help me! I want to replace my RP 250 which its great but I want something more professional, I saw the GNX 4 and RP 1000 but I'm confused, which one is better for you?
If I get you right you ask which one is the better unit for me? I dont think that is important to you - and I am not trying to be humble...the GNX4 is a workstation you can use it for live too but it is made to write and record songs, to practise alone or with the band or other musicians. The RP1000s focus is for the gigging musician which owns a real amp and wants to preserve that amps tone but needs some extra distortion or FX. Both have that USB interface to directly record to a computer
is it possible to have something like 4 external effects and use a couple of the effects from the rp100 and save that entire sound to 1 button. then can you use different setting on the pedals save it to another button and switch back and fourth?
Yes absolutely. One thing you need to keep in mind. The RP1000 switches the external loop on or off but not the effects that means you need to switch them on before you engage the external loop buttom....or you keep this loop function on all the time and change the status on your effects. The status of the loop can be saved to a preset. You can switch in between presets at any time
Great video Ralf! Very informative, as well as your other videos...I'm considering buying the RP1000 and was unsure whether to go with the relatively affordable RP1000 or save up and over time buy various pedals. I think I've rested on a good tube amp and the RP1000.
Great Demo video. I am a bit confused about something and hoping you could help me out.
Is it possible to run the RP1000's effects like chorus, delay and reverb through an amps loop and then run the Rp1000's distorted Amp models and stomp box models in to the front of the amp?
that is exactly how the RP was designed. Pickup a Wah and a Distortion box and configure it before the amps preamp and then have the so called post distortion effects like delay and reverb after the preamp in the effect loop. This is no problem plus you have the luxury to switch these effects on and off....if you look at both of the videos it should become pretty clear since I am talking about this the whole time...Cheers
Thanks for geting back to me. I guess what I was asking is can I run the distortion from the RP1000 be used in to the front of my amp and the effects from the RP1000 in tomy amps effects loop witough using any external somp boxes all at the same time?
Absolutely this is what I am talking about in this video - I must be really unclear to you sorry about that!
The signal chain is guitar into the RP where you pickup distortion boxes Wah etc then send this signal into the preamp of your amplifier....this signal goes back to the RP and picks up post distortion FX and will be send back to the power amp stage of your amp. So you have all the FX in the signal chain where they make sense and sound good plus the freedom to assign this to a preset
No you cannot change an ampchannel using the RP1000. The problem is that the ampmanufactorers use different formats how their amps will be switched. Alone is Marshall there are 3 different ways...Fender has even 4...Mesa is pretty good and uses just one which also works for the Fenders but not for Marshalls etc etc...
The RP1000 can do both but it is designed to add the amp into its structure and not the other way around. That means you go in the RP with the guitar and evtl pick up some pre distortion FX then go out to the front input of your amp. If the FX are not on it is like going str8 in the amp. From the FX send of your amp you go in the RP again and out the RP to the FX return which enables you to pickup post distortion effects. Check out both of my videos of the RP1000 I explain in depth...Cheers
The difference in modeling for me is not big anymore-it comes down to a personal taste level. Featurewise there are some differences. The RP is def. best for live it gives you the stompbox&loop + the chance to bypass models. The ME70 is traditionally very good but doesnt give you a USB interface for recording...it also has less models. The X3 wrote the book of modeling & they have the truest models in my opinion but it is hard to create something that sounds like someone unique...
I presume that this unit works best with an amp that actually has a FX loop so you can bypass the amp's pre-amp? I play a Fender '69 Silverface [modded to Blackface] Twin Reverb and I would love to get some Dual Rec. or JCM900 tones out of it but my amp, obviously, doesn't have a FX loop.
Yes you are right...to get full advantage of this unit you need a decent loop in your amp. If you dont have one you can also use the RP500...the ampmodels are the same just like the FX. If you do not bypass the amp/cab section & set your amp to clean you can have pretty awsome Recti or Marshall sounds coming out of anything...especially out of Fenders since they have the best speakers. Check out my RP500 vids. Anything you can do on the 500 is incl. in the 1000 though...but for you it is the 500
I'm undecided between RP1000 or GSP1101... Rp1000 have more amps models and FX, but GSP1101 have 2 chips, and I think that GSP gives more sound quality than RP... I'm a semi-pro musician and I choose high quality in "Studio" and "Live"...
I'm playing Thrash/Groove/Hardcore, and I don't use a lot of FX... If I buy the GSP I will buy the foot controller too.....
I thought I already answered this question before...I am confused now....anyway the spillover delay the faster and seamless preset switching of the GSP plus the fact that there will be a update somewhen soon to also add more amps and speakers and FX in the GSP leans towards the GSP doenst it?. The GSP plus C2 is more of a pro unit without a question. You can do more you are more flexible. Still if you play always the same setup the RP1k might be enough for you plus you have the stompboxloop
Thank you Jerry your comment is much appreciated. I get a few messages because I dont shred or "overplay" but I think if I want to present a unit the unit should be the star. I can always post some diddly stuff later on....smile....
Thanks for some very informative as well as musically enjoyable videos . Do you find the rp1000 to be more real guitar sounding than the roland gt10? I have been using old rp1's since 1994. I'm considering a gt 10 or the rp 1000 but after your videos I think the rp1000 may be the way to go. Your thoughts on the gt10 would be appreciated . thanks again Jerry Cali
I toyed around with the GT-10 and it is quite good! I also played with the Line6 unit. I have to admit there are tones in these 3 units which are very good...equally good...they are so good that it comes down to a personal taste level.
I think the RP is a little ahead because of the stompboxloop and the amploop. It is great when you can have the core tone of your real amp live and then use the modelling at home to record and practise.
The difference between 1 & the RP1000 is biiiiiiig!
Thanks for the great demo! I have a question regarding the expression pedal on the 1000.
Can I set up the expression pedal to be used like a normal volume pedal to go from rhythm volume to solo volume?
What I mean is that when used as a volume pedal, can I set it so that in the heel position I have my slightly softer rhythm volume and when I go toe down, I have my full on solo volume?
yes you are right the expr.pedal can be set up as volume and so as a solo boost device. But the great thing is that you can do that via ftsw. no.10 either. This ftsw. is freely assignable so you can use it as a soloboost and use the pedal to maybe add distortion on the amps gain parameter. Another option would be to assign 2 presets...since you always can have 5 presets plus FX control in the upper row of ftsw.
Yeah they are identical, more models on the RP though. The RP1000 biggest plus is the stompbox and and loop. Thru these features the 1000 can incorparate a real amps pre and poweramp stage independently in the system.
Reading what you expect...go for the 500....I am sure very soon Digitech will create a preset converter so you can swap preset back and forth between the machines. Having said this...if the presets consists of a model which is not in the 500 that wouldnt work then
The amploop breaks up the pre and the poweramp stage of your amp. It gives you the chance to use the RPs internal effects to be placed before or after the preamp of your amp. If you didnt have the amploop you could still do it but with lots of cables and only in one configuration. The stompboxloop is a insert point which is also assignable for pre or post distortion. Here you can use an extrenal preamp or a external stompbox. Thru this you can replace the RPs or your preamp but use the poweramp
I'm new to all of this loop stuff. I have a Peavey Bandit Transtube, do youknow this amp? If so how could I connect it? On the rear I have a pwr amp in and a pre amp out, on the front I have an efx loop send and return.
so you have two options on your Peavey...I think it is worth trying both I assume the Pre out and the Power in is the one to go for. You know it is important that you have a clean Masterbreak as the guys call it...that means to have a loop which gives you a clean insert point in between the pre and poweramp. A few FX loops in amps are not (in the signal chain) where they should be for different applications...that can be nioce sometimes but for the RP unit you need the clean version
Thanks for that and sorry to be a pain in the rear end but should it need to be done is it ok to go straight to the guitar input like a normal fx unit? Also, I have not heard the term "masterbreak" before.
a masterbreak is a clean separation between pre and poweramplifier. Some FX loops in amps and so that you always have parts of the preamplifiersignal going thru...this is what you dont want to have. You can use the RP to be in front of you Peavey but you can also use it to be the effect switching system...this takes place when the RP has your amp in its amploop....I think that is the best way since you dont loose anything you just gain a lot - check it out!
Big part of the sound comes from this guitar...it looks like a guitar but it has a special bridge which is producing that sitar sound - you cannot play a normal sound on this guitar....I used some phaser some delay lots of compression and some reverb on it because when you hear real sitar music it sounds like they are using those effects
You can use switches 1-5 to switch presets.....you can use all of the 10 footswitches to be presets but I want more control inside a single presets so the upper 5 switches engage effects/or switch them off while the lower row gives me access to 5 presets inside a bank
Ohh Thanks. If I have saved the preset 1, and when I saved it I have the distortion and reverb activated, when I get back to the preset those 2 effects are going to be active??? Or when I change presets all the effects are off???
this is my Sitar...it has a special brigde that produces the sitar sound...the guitar is made by a German luthir calles Eyb.....I think if you google him you find him easily...tell him I said hello
I do have a question about this pedal. I have looked at the GT-10 and the POD X3 Live. I play through a Madison Divinity. I play a large range of music styles from satriani to lamb of god to creed to megadeth to disturbed. I need a pedal that will be good with with all of those styles....will this pedal be my best bet? Or should i go with one of the others...thanks!
ralf , can you please tell me your settings for that indian sound 4:12 ? please???
thank a lot

Hi there, i noticed that there is no CD/mp3 input in the RP1000, is it possible to use the windows media player and the RP connected to the usb to play along with mp3 or even youtube videos? (i use windows vista) Thanks!
urbanspy2008 6 months ago
Is this fairly simple to use? It looks very complicated but I want one REALLY badly.
DylanTylerTheGreat 8 months ago
@DylanTylerTheGreat once you get the concept - and pls see my other videos for that - you dont need the manual.
ralfjung 8 months ago
What effects specifically were you using to make it sound like a sitar? Thanks great vids
JacksonKV2FTW 9 months ago
@JacksonKV2FTW To start with the guitar I played has a sitar bridge which produces half of the effect then I use a phaser and a plate reverb which soudns by itself real cheesy but helps to bring out the string razzling effect of the sitar
ralfjung 9 months ago
Hi Ralf! Very informative videos, thanks a lot!
I was wondering if you could help out with this: If one uses mainly the amp´s preamp and the rp100 as a pedalboard, could one still change from one setting with this set up to another setting with amp modelling, just by pressing one button? Or do you have to press the amp/cabinet bypass?
Thanks!
delarosa74 9 months ago
@delarosa74 Hi there
yes you certainly can. Literally anything on the RP including amp/bypass buttom can be assigned to a preset. So one preset can be the sound of your real amp while another can be the RPs preamp and the poweramp of your real amp....

How does the expression pedal work using just amps tone? (wah, vol, whammy use) It only seems to function while in the modeling mode.

Hey ralf
love your videos really informative and persuasive, I was Wondering if you could tell me if the RP1000 can hold its own as a Standalone Modelling pedal, because I don't have an amp that I can use for gigs so I rely on Direct to P.A pedals currently I have a zoom G2.1u and now am considering upgrading to either the POD X3 Live, Boss GT-10 or the RP1000. And I can't try them out personally I live in Pakistan and music stores no longer stock such devices, so they are brought in on order
LIVEMONSTER 1 year ago
@LIVEMONSTER Actually I love the direct sound of the RP 1000......I dont mean to advertise my CD but check out the teasers especially the rhythm sounds are mainly done using the RP.....Ralf Jung Art of Pop on itunes or CD Baby or my webpage.
The trick using it live is to have a fullrange monitor instead of a amp if you need extra control or have somebody else being dominant in your monitors.....that way you can control the public PA sound better.....and have a better overall feel

ralf, thanks for posting this b/c it's what swayed me to buy the rp 1000. I LOVE IT! anyway i was wondering if i could pick your brain. i have the rp running just the way you do and i use the amp/cabinet bypass more than i dont. i read the manual about the chain, pre/post and not sure why the GATE doesnt work in that config? i have the amp loop on and amp/cab bypass on. the chorus only works post and sounds like #hit!. i read the manual and it says nothing about this. can you shed light? thanks!

how do you get the sitar sound? i have an rp1000. thanks, and great video
MilitaryBros 1 year ago
@MilitaryBros This guitar has a bridge which is actually set up so the strings rattle against it and create that sitar ringing...then I use a phaser and some reverb to emphasize this effect.....the Digitech Dan Donegan pedal actually has a sitar emulation on a preset that works with any normal guitar...check that out the pedal is disctoninued so it should be cheap in stores on on ebay....

how do u make the expression pedal a whammy. it always stays on wah
homebiscuit1994 1 year ago

Awesome review, BTW
vinny1577 2 years ago

Dude, really nice job! I know you have probably answered this question already, but, im torn between the GSP 1101, and the RP 1000, Can you help me out?!
Stiveman 2 years ago
Depending on your focus I would pick the one or the other.....are you hopping between direct and amp usage all the time and are you using more than one amp like a combo at rehearsals a halfstack for live and direct for studio then use the GSP> Basically the sound is almost alike on the machines so far the RP has more models but with some extra software (freeware you can get these models for the GSP as well) and I am sure soon officially anyway. The GSP needs the Control 2 to be remote controlled

You already know the matrix from the GNX3 all you need to learn is the different concept and how to set it up with your existing equipment.

how are the dynamics with the unit? [as in rolling off ur volume on the guitar]
28monkeyking28 2 years ago
For me they work great...just like with a modern tube amp. If you use a more vintage style amp the dynamics are more obvious and work more sensitive...I am pretty impressed
ralfjung 2 years ago
that sounds great =D. Have you ever played a podx3? It feels like it's lacking the dynamic contrast when i roll the volume down and the tone thins out
28monkeyking28 2 years ago
Yes I did and what you say is true especially if you use high gain sounds...but this effect also takes place with a few modern amps. I learned to use a distortion box in front of any amp so when you roll down the volume knob the thinnening part is not so drastic...of course this needs to be a good pedal
ralfjung 2 years ago
You mean an actual pedal or a stomp box within the chain of the pod?

I am in the happy position to own a GNX3000 and GNX4 which I use whenever I use a Strat. For the mahagony based guitars I like the RP1000 best....also with a real tube amp the RP is the one I go for.
The RP1000 is when it comes to the amps and FX the same like the 500...the 355 have a few models less but the sound is almost the same (when using the quarter inch outputs....the XLR sound a bit better to my ears)

So it is just an update on the connectivity due to the update of Apple and Windows platforms...it doenst chqnge the sound of the RP
ralfjung 2 years ago
Hi Ralf
Is the RP preamp bypass button global or can you assign it to presets?
What I mean is can I have one preset like this:
amp preamp - FX section of RP - poweramp
And then another preset like this:
RP preamp - FX section of RP - power amp
What I want is to be able to turn my Marshall into a Vox, Fender, Mesa etc etc at the click of a switch without having to re-route cables.
Apologies if that has already been answered.
davuspg 2 years ago
You can assign any function to a preset. You will be well_served zith your application this is exactly what the RP is made for
ralfjung 2 years ago
can u download patches of bands in this processor?? if yes, where??
tom27 2 years ago
to put it right : the rp1000 amp modelling is before or after the preamplifier stage of an amp??
TheSoyuken 2 years ago
you can do 3 options here
1. git - RP preamp - amp preamp - poweramp
2. git - Preamp of amp - FX section of RP - Poweramp
3. git - RP preamp - FX section of RP - poweramp
these are only 3 options of many others. Remember than you can use the stomploop to incorparate a preamp pre or post....you can completely bypass the RP preamp and just use FX&distortions....the distortions in that case would be pre and the FX would be post...this in combination with the stomploop gives you many options
ralfjung 2 years ago
hello ralf! great presentation!
well,i have a question you may have already been asked a million times,but.. :P
is the amp modelling in front of your amplifier? (i mean in the input, not in the effects loop). What i want to do is use the rp 1000's amp modelling (especially marshall and mesa models) but bend/stack it with my amp's preamp in order not to lose the preamp valve warmth, and also use the time based effects in the loop. So... do the amps models go straight into the poweramp section ?thx
TheSoyuken 2 years ago
please look on the answer above....the preamp of the RP can be placed before your amplifiers preamp or it can be after going direct into the poweramp....
ralfjung 2 years ago

I still want to know if theres any RP1000 fan site where you can dowload presets approaching bands, but my problem with the Expression Pedal is already solved..
one more thing... what should be the valour in the pedal when the V-shift is established????, I think I saw "94" in mine and I´m also afraid it´s too loose, I mean, whenever I press it to the end, the wah deactivates how can I solve that..

HAIL4sure 2 years ago
Ultimate control and sounds.
vinny1577 2 years ago
hi, well my playing level atm is intermediate, im still taking classes, the rest of my gear, i got an ibanez GRG170DXL and i´m still waiting for my new guitar that is a BC rich Warlock NT, my amp is not very good its a micro cube 15w, need to get a new one aswell, do you recommend RP500 or 1000 cuz i might be interested in one of them, just need to know what fits more on my playing level
cheers
macfozzi 2 years ago
They both fit your playing level - I mean it is better to adapt future equipment to existing equipment. When you look at the 1000 your amp needs a effect loop to get maximum effect since a few effects of the 1000 will be in front of the amp and some are in the effect loop and some sounds will just use the poweramp of this amplifier.
The RP500 lives in front of the amp all the time....this should make the decision I guess
ralfjung 2 years ago
i think im going for the RP500
thank you so much for your help

can you plz tell me what is the best digitech pedal for playing deathmetal / deathcore / trashmetal / metalcore?
ty
macfozzi 2 years ago
Hi Ty
this is hard to answer since I dont know your playing level and the rest of your equipment. If your budget is sort of "a couple od bucks" I strongly recommend the Black 13...if you are using a real amplifier get the RP500 or 1000...if you are a total pro guitar player get the GSP1101 plus the Control 2.....do you like stompboxes to beef up your amp go for the Metal Distortion of the Hardwire series
ralfjung 2 years ago
What is the speed like when switching presets? I have a GNX2 and I remember a big problem that people, myself included was there was a noticable delay when switching presets for example if you had to switch from a clean to a more distorted sound (that you couldn't just use a stompbox model for) where you couldn't really have time to mute the guitar. Also nice guitars
benjaminshinobi 2 years ago
I don't think it is possible but would I be able to integrate my amp channel switch into the RP 1000.? (Eliminating the need for the amp's external footswich) and therefore integrate the amp channel switching into a patch of the RP 1000. I think thats about the only thing missing on the RP 1000
HAIL4sure 2 years ago
Sorry no this is not possible. You need to change the ampchannel manually....it is a feature Digitech discussed a lot but since the amp manufactorers do have all sort of different ways to switch their channels it is almost impossible to add this feature wihout disappointing users out there (i.g Fender uses 3 ways Marshall even 5 ways....)
ralfjung 2 years ago
wat were some of the effects and the guitar u used to get the sitar sound?
chives81 2 years ago
Just to stress that out...that guitar already sounds like a sitar since it has a special bridge...but the FX I used are phaser to imitade the narrow frequency of a sitar some slap back delay and a very bright and dense reverb
ralfjung 2 years ago
Great demo, but one question though:
I use a lot of software amp modeling software (Revalver, Amplitube, etc...). So if I understand correctly, this unit should be usable in the following way; plug guitar into RP1000, plug the unit's audio out in my firewire audio interface, bypass the RP1000's amp and cab simulations, capture the interface's output with the amp software.
That way I should be able to model the amp software wise, but still enjoy the stompbox effects from the RP1000 right?
BlackDesire 2 years ago
Comment removed
BlackDesire 2 years ago
Hi Blacj Desire
no the right way would look like this
Git into RP1000 then use the audio output of the RP1000 and plug those into your firewire interface and record the sounds. This way you need the amp and cab simulation.
The software is used to remote control the RP. Btw the RP also features a USB interface...your DAW should recognize it.
If you have a clean Git already recorded you can use the RP to reamp....you can also send a ampsignal out of your DAW into the RP and add stompboxes...
ralfjung 2 years ago
Aaah, ok, got it. Thx for clearing that one out, cheers :) !
So on the shopping list she goes. Now to anxiously await this month's paycheck :) .

This machine is awesome , but i just have one question , i hope you can answer, this rp as well as the other rp models has fx, distor, amp , eq , etc etc.
My question is, the delay fa before or after distor/amps ?
i hope you can clear my doubt , thanks for your awesome demo
alexfheind 2 years ago
This unit has something over 100 amps stomboxes effects and Eqs.....the signal chain is...git-rp input-wah-compressor-distortion-modulation(pre)-amp/cab-modulation(post)-delay-reverb....although you can only use one modulation per preset you can position it pre or post distortion...the dealy is always after distortion. If you need a delay before the distortion use the stompboxloop

Hello !! please help me! I want to replace my RP 250 which its great but I want something more professional, I saw the GNX 4 and RP 1000 but I'm confused, which one is better for you?
andrespcp 2 years ago
If I get you right you ask which one is the better unit for me? I dont think that is important to you - and I am not trying to be humble...the GNX4 is a workstation you can use it for live too but it is made to write and record songs, to practise alone or with the band or other musicians. The RP1000s focus is for the gigging musician which owns a real amp and wants to preserve that amps tone but needs some extra distortion or FX. Both have that USB interface to directly record to a computer
ralfjung 2 years ago
is it possible to have something like 4 external effects and use a couple of the effects from the rp100 and save that entire sound to 1 button. then can you use different setting on the pedals save it to another button and switch back and fourth?
jcallseven 2 years ago
Yes absolutely. One thing you need to keep in mind. The RP1000 switches the external loop on or off but not the effects that means you need to switch them on before you engage the external loop buttom....or you keep this loop function on all the time and change the status on your effects. The status of the loop can be saved to a preset. You can switch in between presets at any time
ralfjung 2 years ago
thanks for getting back to me i really want to go and try it out for myself now.

Great video Ralf! Very informative, as well as your other videos...I'm considering buying the RP1000 and was unsure whether to go with the relatively affordable RP1000 or save up and over time buy various pedals. I think I've rested on a good tube amp and the RP1000.
Jakedrums13 2 years ago
Great Demo video. I am a bit confused about something and hoping you could help me out.
Is it possible to run the RP1000's effects like chorus, delay and reverb through an amps loop and then run the Rp1000's distorted Amp models and stomp box models in to the front of the amp?
Thanks for the help.
nickmatty 2 years ago
Hi Nick
that is exactly how the RP was designed. Pickup a Wah and a Distortion box and configure it before the amps preamp and then have the so called post distortion effects like delay and reverb after the preamp in the effect loop. This is no problem plus you have the luxury to switch these effects on and off....if you look at both of the videos it should become pretty clear since I am talking about this the whole time...Cheers
ralfjung 2 years ago
Thanks for geting back to me. I guess what I was asking is can I run the distortion from the RP1000 be used in to the front of my amp and the effects from the RP1000 in tomy amps effects loop witough using any external somp boxes all at the same time?
nickmatty 2 years ago
Absolutely this is what I am talking about in this video - I must be really unclear to you sorry about that!
The signal chain is guitar into the RP where you pickup distortion boxes Wah etc then send this signal into the preamp of your amplifier....this signal goes back to the RP and picks up post distortion FX and will be send back to the power amp stage of your amp. So you have all the FX in the signal chain where they make sense and sound good plus the freedom to assign this to a preset
ralfjung 2 years ago
Thanks again for your help. I understand now. I just ordered a RP1000 and am looking forward to geting it.
nickmatty 2 years ago
Can you use this to switch channels for a 2 channel amp, and create presets using the different channels?
adil2552 2 years ago
No you cannot change an ampchannel using the RP1000. The problem is that the ampmanufactorers use different formats how their amps will be switched. Alone is Marshall there are 3 different ways...Fender has even 4...Mesa is pretty good and uses just one which also works for the Fenders but not for Marshalls etc etc...

Hey is this going straight into your amp input or did you put it through your return and send inputs? Which would sound better? thanks!
Mrbegals 2 years ago
The RP1000 can do both but it is designed to add the amp into its structure and not the other way around. That means you go in the RP with the guitar and evtl pick up some pre distortion FX then go out to the front input of your amp. If the FX are not on it is like going str8 in the amp. From the FX send of your amp you go in the RP again and out the RP to the FX return which enables you to pickup post distortion effects. Check out both of my videos of the RP1000 I explain in depth...Cheers

hey...good video...but men...which you prefer..digitech rp1000...pod x3 live...or....boss me70?....for live and studio recording quality?...
thx!....answer plx
valentintintin68 2 years ago
The difference in modeling for me is not big anymore-it comes down to a personal taste level. Featurewise there are some differences. The RP is def. best for live it gives you the stompbox&loop + the chance to bypass models. The ME70 is traditionally very good but doesnt give you a USB interface for recording...it also has less models. The X3 wrote the book of modeling & they have the truest models in my opinion but it is hard to create something that sounds like someone unique...

Hi Ralph,
I presume that this unit works best with an amp that actually has a FX loop so you can bypass the amp's pre-amp? I play a Fender '69 Silverface [modded to Blackface] Twin Reverb and I would love to get some Dual Rec. or JCM900 tones out of it but my amp, obviously, doesn't have a FX loop.
DemoColorScheme 3 years ago
Yes you are right...to get full advantage of this unit you need a decent loop in your amp. If you dont have one you can also use the RP500...the ampmodels are the same just like the FX. If you do not bypass the amp/cab section & set your amp to clean you can have pretty awsome Recti or Marshall sounds coming out of anything...especially out of Fenders since they have the best speakers. Check out my RP500 vids. Anything you can do on the 500 is incl. in the 1000 though...but for you it is the 500

Hi Ralph...
Help me PLEASE!!!!
megakill1980 3 years ago
Hi
I thought I already answered this question before...I am confused now....anyway the spillover delay the faster and seamless preset switching of the GSP plus the fact that there will be a update somewhen soon to also add more amps and speakers and FX in the GSP leans towards the GSP doenst it?. The GSP plus C2 is more of a pro unit without a question. You can do more you are more flexible. Still if you play always the same setup the RP1k might be enough for you plus you have the stompboxloop
ralfjung 3 years ago
Mr. Ralf... 1) You don't ask my before question... But now yes, so Thanks!
2)I don't understand about the update of GSP... You says that if I buy GSP I can update it in the future or what?
3)The most important fact for me is High Quality on sound.. So I want to buy a unit that delievers me the best quality, both in Studio and Live...

thanks for responding so quickly -I will continue to watch your videos as they are very informative and I enjoy your playing - jc

Hi Jerry
I toyed around with the GT-10 and it is quite good! I also played with the Line6 unit. I have to admit there are tones in these 3 units which are very good...equally good...they are so good that it comes down to a personal taste level.
I think the RP is a little ahead because of the stompboxloop and the amploop. It is great when you can have the core tone of your real amp live and then use the modelling at home to record and practise.
The difference between 1 & the RP1000 is biiiiiiig!

Hi Ralf,
Thanks for the great demo!
8bigtubes 3 years ago
Hi (sorry didnt get your name)
yes you are right the expr.pedal can be set up as volume and so as a solo boost device.
I hope this clears the picture
Cheers

hey, ralf
Does the rp500 have the same distortions, effects, amp models, etc as the rp1000, excluding the looper and lower level of buttons?
cuz i want all of the distortions, effects, amp models etc as the rp1000 but just not the looper and extra row of buttons, thats why i asked
tbw2445 3 years ago
Yeah they are identical, more models on the RP though. The RP1000 biggest plus is the stompbox and and loop. Thru these features the 1000 can incorparate a real amps pre and poweramp stage independently in the system.
Reading what you expect...go for the 500....I am sure very soon Digitech will create a preset converter so you can swap preset back and forth between the machines. Having said this...if the presets consists of a model which is not in the 500 that wouldnt work then
ralfjung 3 years ago
useful videos Ralph, thanks. What is the difference between the amp loop and the stomp box loop?
Cheers
PhilDY6 3 years ago

Cheers

PhilDY6 3 years ago
Hi Phil
so you have two options on your Peavey...I think it is worth trying both I assume the Pre out and the Power in is the one to go for. You know it is important that you have a clean Masterbreak as the guys call it...that means to have a loop which gives you a clean insert point in between the pre and poweramp. A few FX loops in amps are not (in the signal chain) where they should be for different applications...that can be nioce sometimes but for the RP unit you need the clean version
ralfjung 3 years ago
Thanks for that and sorry to be a pain in the rear end but should it need to be done is it ok to go straight to the guitar input like a normal fx unit? Also, I have not heard the term "masterbreak" before.
Cheers
Phil,
I'll be back whenI have one ;o)
PhilDY6 3 years ago
Hi Phil
a masterbreak is a clean separation between pre and poweramplifier.

Hi, nice videos. Exactly what effects are you using around 4:14 for the "Indian vibe"? Keep rocking
TheShoesOfDeath 3 years ago
Big part of the sound comes from this guitar...it looks like a guitar but it has a special bridge which is producing that sitar sound - you cannot play a normal sound on this guitar....I used some phaser some delay lots of compression and some reverb on it because when you hear real sitar music it sounds like they are using those effects
ralfjung 3 years ago
Mr. Ralf what are the switches 1-5 for??
Ehrokyn 3 years ago
You can use switches 1-5 to switch presets.....you can use all of the 10 footswitches to be presets but I want more control inside a single presets so the upper 5 switches engage effects/or switch them off while the lower row gives me access to 5 presets inside a bank
ralfjung 3 years ago
Ohh Thanks. If I have saved the preset 1, and when I saved it I have the distortion and reverb activated, when I get back to the preset those 2 effects are going to be active??? Or when I change presets all the effects are off???
Ehrokyn 3 years ago
Hi Ralf,
what model of guitar to you play at the 4:14 mark?
CoffeeDrinker71 3 years ago
Hi
this is my Sitar...it has a special brigde that produces the sitar sound...the guitar is made by a German luthir calles Eyb.....I think if you google him you find him easily...tell him I said hello
