Insightful. Carol knows that success in both business and social situations requires effective communication. She delivers tips that help anyone understand and master the nuances of human interaction. This easy-to-read and practical book will help anyone in their quest for success.
Carol, I really liked this video for a couple of reasons. 1) as others have commented, there are a few tidbits of good information. 2) Your "voice" (tone, tempo, pace etc.) is very good, and ideally suited to podcasting if you're ever interested. 3) Potential. You mentioned that the use of eyebrows is common across all cultures. As North American workplaces become an even more varied landscape of diverse cultures, religious beliefs, perspectives, we need MORE tips / cues on how to bridge them.
The video is engaging and certainly a "must read". Body language is very important to me as an Recruiting Director and business owner. I look forward to reading every page of the Non Verbal Advantage.
CRITIQUING MY OWN PERFORMANCE. As a body language coach, here's the advice I'd give myself: 1. Stop the finger pointing (something I swear I NEVER do from the stage). 2. Smile more. (I felt "friendlier" than I looked - and in BL, it's not what the sender means, it's what the viewer perceives that counts.) 3. Make this correction on the "eyebrow flash": The Japanese don't use it. (In that single culture, the gesture is considered to be impolite.)
I am lucky enough to know Carol and have a copy of this book. She is a wonderful person and a fabulous author. I am amazed at the wealth of information she gives to the reader. This is truly an A to Z guide on Body Language. I highly recommend this book to anyone who deals with people in business or in life. Great Video!
I had not thought of using body language proactively to positively influence others, until now. I can't wait to read the book, and to also start flashing my eyebrows more when meeting new prospective clients.
This is not only a wonderful book. But knowing Carol in real life, I can vouch that she lives what she teaches. She's a great communicator. I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in being a better communicator, in the workplace and in all other parts of life. And that you get yourself on Carol's email list to receive her interesting & thought-provoking articles on various aspects of workplace issues including change management.
It can be stressful to think that so much is riding on seven little seconds - but with the pace of the world speeding up every day, it seems like that's all the time you have with most of the people you encounter. I look forward to reading this book, and learning how to make the most of every meeting!
Wow!! What a video! Carol Kinsey Goman definitely eats her own cooking. Her body language was as informative as her message. I learned alot and look forward to reading the book.
Fascinating! This is something I had never considered - especially in the workplace, bt then it DOES make sense after all. Our bodies do in fact express who we are and having some cognition of that fact is important. Good stuff!
Fascinating! I didn't realize that eyebrows reveal so much information. I'll be sure to use what I've learned here in my next business meeting! Thanks, Carol!
