  • THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE!

  • The BEST performance of this song ever!!!

  • Comparing this to Lea's "On My Own", I'm amazed how much her voice has matured in ten years. While she was already exceptional, now her voice is divine. There were many things the 25th anniversary concert got wrong, but casting Lea wasn't one of them.

  • @katieluvsmath95 15 years. She sang "On My Own" at the 10th Anniversary. But, I agree with you on all parts.

  • @rjvsmb How could I forget Patti LaPone.

  • @rjvsmb :P Me and my late night math skills. For some reason I was thinking it was the 15th anniversary instead of the 10th.

  • Awsome....I love your voice...most memorable!!

  • It took her literally 20 seconds to move me to tears. Lea is absolutely flawless in a technical stand point and emotional stand point.

  • Ruthie Henshall >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> all

  • @UnknownBrazilian Ruthie A+

  • Desafinó un poquito al final, creo que su ropa estaba muy apretada en el diafragma que pena porque ella es por lejos la mejor interprete!

  • Lea Salonga is truly my inspiration

  • wasnt lea the original eponine coeewct me if im wrong

  • @thunderstormabbi Frances Ruffelle was the original Eponine: great actress but a horrible singer.

  • @tybashdracistfaggot thank you

  • @tybashdracistfaggot Truth be told, she was/is not a "horrible singer". It's just that Lea is better. Is it my imagination that when FR played Eppy, most people didn't care that she died? But once Lea played the role, it seemed that they wanted Eppy to live and Marius to choose her over Cossette. That Lea. She could sure screw things up. Just kidding. Blessings be upon thee.

  • @thunderstormabbi nope she's just the best 8D

  • Sublime...............

  • Moving!!!

  • I just want to point out that as well as Lea being awesome in this video, that orchestra KICKS ASS

  • @holyknightthatpwns FUCK YEA ORCHESTRA! *FISTPUMP*

  • The best fantine. Lea made me like fantine as a character

  • An amazing song spoilt by an american accent....lovely voice though!

  • @QueenPolly If you've actually heard Lea Salonga speak you'd find that she speaks with more of an English accent rather than an American one. There aren't really accents when singing, I find, it's enunciation. If you feel it ruined the song though it's your prerogative. Personally I thought she did a fantastic job.

  • Comment removed

  • @QueenPolly She leans towards English rather than American here, actually... (some words are easy give-aways, such as "and," "cannot," etc.)

  • 8 people are just dead inside

  • Goosebumps.

  • WOW! amazing! perfect ! :) Godbless you!

  • spell BRAVO = L-E-A

  • she has such an amazing voice love her!!

  • sometimes life kills the dreams we dream.....

  • i've never watched a fantine sing with this much passion. i cried like the whole time

  • @erinsaki sure hopes she gets the nod for the musical film casting! an international powerful talent!

  • Absolutely wonderful.

  • EVOCATIVE!

  • lol cant believe people dislike this . . .. imagine a 10 seconds long applause of audience is already a great honour for singers and actors , ,, while this one acquired more than 30s xD . . . whats my point? those people who 'does not' like this ver are plain deaf.

  • Gorgeous <3 Can really feel the emotion in this....she is such a beautiful singer!

  • This is just plain perfectly wonderful!

  • beautiful... enough said.

  • oh crap! sooooo goooood!

  • @bobbyswfc then go listen to Ruthie Henshall and leave Lea Salonga alone

  • all you henshall fans should just admit that you're too used to hearing her version to accept the fact that lea salonga's version is better :l

  • amazing!!!

  • wow

  • this is the best performance I've seen on youtube. Lea's just so impassioned, and she conveys her emotions so well. I was in tears by the end of the song.

  • im like hypnotized by her vibrato. like wooooow!

  • lea salonga voice is sooo beautiful! proud to be pinoy!

  • MY FAVORITE AND THE BEST FANTINE EVER!!

  • such a world class talent...a world class artist...a pure-blooded Filipino

  • is it true that Lea Salonga will make a cameo in GLEE?

  • I dream of watching Les Miserables Live with Lea Salonga performing Fantine! :D

  • It's not fair. Why's she allowed to be so talented?!?!

  • aww 3 ppl have shaky hands and now are so ashamed of themselves that they have hidden from this page and vowed never to show their faces on youtube again :(

  • Lea Salonga is always the best in every role she plays! best Kim in Miss Saigon, best Eponine, best Fantine. UNBELIEVABLE!!

  • @tonzzzsaintie "Best" is a tall order - Elaine Paige, Ruthie Henshall. I don't disagree that Lea is awesome, but Elaine and Ruthie were pretty awesome as well. How about one of the best?

  • Beautiful voice, correct singing technique, clear diction, intense emotions. Simply PERFECT!

  • Of course, she's no Ruthie Henshall, the singer with the ugly voice who has been described as a domestic starlet has-been. No wonder she has no more career, while Salonga has been around for 30 years and is still going strong!

  • @af2un Not being British...what is it exactly that has happened to Ruthie Henshall?

  • @Kasino80 Henshall - serious personal issues, major voice problems...

  • Awesome version! you can feel every single word she utters

  • Only superior part to the 25th ann version!!!!

  • This is the best version of this song I've ever heard.

It's better than Lea & Idina's (Glee) and way better than Susan Boyle's,

Lea Salonga captures the true emotion and makes you cry..

  • Wow she has come so far even since she played Eponine!!!!!

    She's really good!!!!!!

  • I don't like it, I LOVE IT! :D

  • perfect...

  • She's "awesome".....The world miss u so much...

  • She's "awsome".....The world miss u so much...

  • On one level, this is a unique meeting of Lea's incredible voice with a song that is worthy of it...but what really sets this performance head-and-shoulders above all others is the passion. My God, when Lea sings "And still I dream he'll come to me", I FEEL her hope, and when she sings "But he was gone when autumn came", I feel the venom.

Thank you, Lea, for sharing your amazing talent...and thank you a thousand times over for sharing your lovely and boundless heart!

  • GAH! She did so well im so glad she played it! amazing!

  • omg... she feells EVERY word >_<

  • Amazing....Love his voice...his acting...

  • @diudeadiana Lea is a "She". ...her voice....her acting. No offense meant.

  • @mrgymrat1104 hahaha you're right...I'm not a native english speacker, but my mistakes are unforgivable...Let's try it again: "Amazing...Love her voice...her acting..."

  • Lea Salonga can do anything!!!!!

  • I dream to watch one of her broadway musical. . I LOVE LEA. . . Fantastic voice~ WORLD CLASS!

  • This just leaves me speechless at the end.

  • I personally think she was so much better as Eponine in the 10th anniversary concert.

  • She was absolutely AMAZING when she did this in New York.... I am so lucky to have seen her perform this amazing role on Broadway.

Bravo Lea... You are absolute perfection!!!!

  • excellent pronunciation and the best when it comes to enunciation... goodness!!!

  • Not only is she beautiful but her voice...speechless. I want to be like her someday

  • Flawless!!!!!

  • BEAUTIFUL TRUE PERFORMANCE OF LOVE♥♥♥

  • BEAUTIFUL TRUE PERFORMANCE OF LOVE♥♥♥

  • She is First BROADWAY Actress to win 5 International Awards in One Single Lead Role (From Her Original Broadway & West End Cast of "MISS SAIGON") including Tony Award... She is Acclaimed International Multi Awarded-Platinum Pop Diva & One World Class Broadway Legend Superstar Ms. LEA SALONGA --- When it comes to Delivering Performance whether in CONCERT or BROADWAY Vocals & Acting these are 5 Words Best to describe LEA SALONGA --- DIVINE. POWERFUL. EXCELLENCE. BREATHTAKING. OUTSTANDING. ^_^

  • i just love her as both eponine and fantine.. it doesn't really matter which character she plays.. how many years has it been since the TAC? her voice is still beyond magical...

  • @ireezh It might be 15, considering this is the 25th...?

  • love it...i cried...she hits the highs and lows of the song... the others were too focused on the high notes...

  • Preferred her as Eponine :)

  • I know everyone has his/her favourite Fantine, Lea Salonga, Ruthie Henshall, Patti LuPone etc... but who on earth would "dislike" this video?

  • She playes a fabulous Fantine but personally I believe that Lea Solonga plays an even BETTER Eponine!!! :) buy nonetheless, she is a beautiful singer and this is my FAVORITE version of I Dreamed A Dream. and hse also sings the best ON MY OWN.

  • @misteryperson3123 i 100% agree i love her in this show her voice is perfect for it!

  • AMAZING! Every part of her body acts. Every emotion is felt. Every note sung is perfect. Blows ALL other Fantines out of the water!

  • Pure talent + Emotion = Awesome Performance

  • where the heck is the "LOVE" button?!

  • OMG perfecto!

  • Lea Salonga is one of the best filipina singer ever..

  • All of you,

Even though I could side with one of you or the other, why can't we all just have a good time and listen to the music instead of arguing over who did it best? Please?

  • THE. ULTIMATE. PERFORMANCE.

  • @Kaiserbecks: Henshall was great. Like ages ago. Until producers experimented with Salonga and discovered she could do better. She, NOT Henshall, has een labeled The Legendary Fantine. Sorry, your WRONG opinion (there's such a thing now: yours) doesn't matter. Ha ha ha!

  • @janetcalicagan My opinion can't be "wrong", it's based on personal taste. I think Salonga is still better than Boyle (who has been labeled "talent of the year" and whatnot) though.

  • god i love her voice

  • They're both good. Shut up. It could be worse, you could have Susan Boyle up there!

  • Ruthie Henshaw was great - this is good too. Why does it have to be one or the other? Whatever happens, both Henshaw and Salonga are streets ahead of Boyle. Fed up with people making comments slagging Henshaw or Salonga off. Why can't they both be appreciated?

  • She should have kicked Nick Jonas off of the stage and assume the role of Marius.

  • im watching this musical for the third time ... I just can't get enought.

  • One great thing about Salonga's vocals is how rich & full her low tones are and how precise & properly belted (full power but w/o the shriek) her high notes are (observe Henshall's rough belt, or Idina Menzel's screechy belts on Wicked). She read Hugo's book & thoroughly studied the character before taking on the role AND it shows in how different & truer to the book her portrayal is. She's clearly superior to Henshall. And it's no surprise critics have dubbed her as THE legendary Fantine.

  • @punknnerd2 Well, Fantine is an interesting character to play, and a difficult one at that: Fantine had two stages of her life after she was fired from the factory, one in which she was full of grief - which is the way Henshall portrays her - and one in which she was full of rage - which is how Salonga portrays her. I don't think that either performance is out of tune with the character, it just depends on which stage of Fantine's life you take them to be in.

  • @punknnerd2 where does it say that Salonga read the book?

  • @ShinobiSasukeUchiha There are a number of videos on Youtube alone containing interviews with Salonga. But there are more (magazine) articles that mentioned it when they came out way back in 2007.

  • why couldn't she just play every female role in this show

  • Ruthie would always be my favorite singer of IDAD. With that said, anyone who dislikes this interpretation of Ms Salonga is beyond me. I felt her "pain".

  • @KaiserBecks I doubt you could moan as beautiful as that! To say you're not an expert is nothing short of redundant as it's pretty obvious in your comment. Please, talk to a music teacher at least, so you'd know what you're talking about.

  • @KaiserBecks No, it's not bad. It's just that you have poor taste.

  • @KaiserBecks Haha! This is getting better. Keep blabbering. I'm sure your opinion matters. I think it will keep most people from liking Lea's critically acclaimed portrayal and keep them from buying the already hot-selling blue-ray disc... Read: Eat your heart out!

  • @KaiserBecks you need a teacher to tell you that she's good.you got poor taste that's why.=p

  • Comment removed

  • WOW. She not only can sing this song but really act it out too. I also saw the video where she said she read the book and studied Fantine's character.

  • WORTH CRYING FOR!

    goddamn!

  • WOW!!! the only artist who brilliantly played Eponine and Fantine.

  • wow

  • i love this version so much better than susan boyle s

  • @erikeasy WHAT? SUSAN BOYLE IS NOTHING..SHES AN OLD CRAP,...NOT COMPARABLY TO THIS LEA SALONGA WHO IS MULTI AWARDED AND HAVE SOMETHING TO PROVED.BOYLE ON THE OTHERHAND IS JUST SYMPATHY GENERATED ACT...

  • @dummygeek because that is how the story really went through... anger of letting things happened and suddenly leaving fantine alone with everything.. i bet you read the book?.. in the book it says that anger linger on her because she trusted a man that at the end left her.... many played the role but they just sing the song, no one could ever done such thing with emotion,, i guess it will be hard for other persons whom played the role to sing and act without affecting the pitch of their voice..

  • @k2cbp lea said in an interview that she red the book to understand how miserable fantine was. i believe that is why you could see a very emotional performance. for me she touched my heart. brava lea!

  • whew !!!! this is not a performance ,, this is "THE PERFORMANCE" ... anyone who wants to argue.better have a valid reason, actually , don't attempt it. you'll just lose..

  • @Allotmenteer2 i wont force u to prefer this but.... how? why? i love Susan Boyle very much but this is beyond excellence her vibrato is perfect, her voice is overwhelming and the clarity of her voice doesn't waver, so i just want to know why or how? XD

  • I cried

  • This is the first time this song made me cry.... I dont know why i am crying. It pains inside....

  • & this is how it SHOULD be sung !!! Amazing. Please ban anyone else from singing it on X Factor or BGT !??

  • With grace, ease, and perfection = Lea Salonga

  • Wow! All I can say. We all know Lea has a fantastic voice, and this just further proves my point. Pure gold, this is. Her, Ramin, & Alfie stole the show! So glad I could be a part of the live world broadcast!

  • @Transcona1234 sure hope too that ramin, alfie and lea make it in the universal musical film casting.

  • @gerryhansolo There is going to be an actual musical-movie to this musical?? :O I agree!! Love Ramin, Alfie and Lea!! :D

  • @MissFortuna90 yepyep, officially announced at the end credits of the o2 concert dvd, wooooooot!

  • @MissFortuna90 Yup, there is.

  • I am riveted to my seat... what a great performance! Can you please post Lea Salonga's rendition of "Fantine's Arrest" in this concert? Thank you. I think it's beyond perfection!
