  • I love the evil smile Sweeney makes as he points to the chest...

  • Mrs. Lovett: Mr. T! You didn't!

Sweeney: *smiles and points to the trunk*

That always cracks me up for some reason xD

  • I kinda prefer the slower pace it was in the movie

  • I love how he points and smiles! Hahaha!!

  • I cant help but recall Monty Python's barbershop prelude to the Lumberjack Song

  • Moreover, concerning the tone, the film held it way better, at least because of the fact that some people with much more experienced ears than yours (although yours do not seem to be good at all because many rhythm problems occurred on the scene which do not bother you at all apparently) worked on this movie to make it perfect.

  • @xskullxkisses Actually I do think that Johny Depp is quite a talented actor and that he does tell stories with H.B Carter

  • Seriously, shouldn't the judge or beadle recognize the location? I mean, supposedly they stood outside it looking up at the window at Lucy all that time. And not one of them says, hmm, what a coincidence that there is another barber in this exact location?

  • Lovett: now you sit there like a nice quiet boy while i get some more stuff to get you drunk

  • i love this but i love that tone alan rickman lends to this scene. aging, and venomous. his usual ichor is so well controlled it really creates vulnerability. this just feels like an old man warbling.

  • One more thing....I LOVE STAGE CREW!!!!! I wish I could have been apart of this play's Stage Crew

  • QUESTION: Why are so many people dissing Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd? I seen EVERY Sweeney Todd movie, even one that is older than this play. NONE of the Movies/ Plays are the same. But they are ALL good. I , for one, LOVE the Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd. Don't take it in a bad way but, If people think that Burton's Sweeney sucked, than you may be closed minded to all of the diff. ways Sweeney Todd can be told. P.s I hate Johanna in ALL of the Sweeney Todds Lol

  • @XDeadlyXSinner

It's not that we are particularly closed-minded, merely that we find one version superior to another. I personally dislike Burton's adaption, but that need not mean I despise all who think differently!

  • Man. Hearn's almost childlike glee at having killed Piurelli is so great. He's just like "Mrs. Lovett! I got you a present!"

  • Tim Burton, take notes. Get a cast who can tell a story AND hold a tune.

  • Vibrato whistle :D

  • George Hearn's voice reminds me of Christopher Lloyd's voice in Back to the Future

  • If Todd wasn't murdurously evil, and really as nice as he was to the judge, it would be AWESOME to have him as a barber!

  • @Broadwaypuppet yeah but later in the show, he isn't so nice to the judge haha

  • @merbethmango LOL THAT'S why I excluded the murderously evil part of him!!! XD

  • Mrs. Lovett: How long before the Eye-talian gets back?

Todd: He won't be back >:)

    Mrs. Lovett: 0.o Mr. T. You didn't! !!

Todd: *inside thinking* But I did ^ ^

  • I think Alan Rickman made great Judge Turpin.

  • Personally, I'm not much a fan of Angela Lansbury's voice, but she is superb at playing her role it completely makes up for it.

  • I have no words to express how much i love this version of the musical.

The movie was great, but George and Angela play these characters so perfectly!

  • DECEIVING SLUT!

    Had to...

  • i think it's funny how this sweeney todd looks like judge turpin from the movie!

  • Other than A Little Priest, Pretty Women is my fav song ;p

  • @jmccuen This song is way more emotion and musical imho

  • this is one of my favorite peices in the whole performance!

  • anyone amazed that judge turpin has a bass-baritone voice despite being so old?

  • @mineowyn

This isn't real opera, old guys don't have to be basso profundo all the time. And while we're on the subject of convention being ignored, the male lead (the title role to boot!) is a baritone as well. By the way, I think more contrast should have been made between Todd and the Judge, vocal-wise (i.e. cast Todd as a dramatic baritone and Turpin a bass-baritone. After all, Todd goes up to G flat above the bass clef, which is (for the latter voice) an extremely high note.

  • @xxkewldudexx Oh what a bunch of hogwash. This was an amazing performance as is. The casting was pure perfection. I've watched this scene many times and love the hell out of it. You have over analyed this clip, BIGTIME! No disrespect intended!

  • @Loejyrrab

None inferred. And I'm sorry i "overanalyzed" it, that's something I tend to do a lot.

  • @xxkewldudexx Oh dudexx, usually people go balistic in response to my comment. Thanks for an honest appraisal. Loved when you confessed, "I do that a lot" Anyway,Hearn, what a broadway legend. I saw him play the Italian vintner Tony in Most Happy Fella here in Chicago a few summers ago. Unforgettable.

  • @Loejyrrab

Thank you for that. People need all the positive reinforcement they can get, and quite frankly, I've been a bit lacking in that regard lately...I suppose we all are sometime. The trick (as I'm learning, just in the nick of time) is to think on the up side as much as one can. Am I right?

  • @xxkewldudexx Are really only 16? If so you lucky dude! You are seemingly well educated musically. I'm a singer/pianist in Chicago but I trained some in operatic technique. Look up Joel Barry on Tube and watch me sing an Aria, Nessun Dorma. The vid is 13 yrs old. I'm 66 now and have enjoyed my career in music. And yes, I think you're right. Bye Bye

  • @Loejyrrab

Thank you for the compliment! Some of my musical knowledge (operatic conventions, vocal types, and so on) is from reading a *lot* of books and visiting almost as many websites. Although I do have quite a bit of practical knowledge in there too...one gripe I do have is the fact that the high end of the male vocal range is eluding me so far. It seems like I just need to train more... am I right ?

  • theres just something about a musical that gives me goosebumps

  • Wait did Judge Turpin just call Johanna a slut?

  • @PinkaliciousBeauty09 ik i laughed wen i heard tht

  • "Now, then, my friend..." That part sounds cooler all deep, not like Depp's pseudo-rock voice. Though I'll admit his Final Sequence (after he discovers Lucy's body) is awesome especially "What have I done?"

  • i luv how he smiles and points to the trunk

  • Very good love this!!

  • haha Turpin falls asleep, bad idea when getting a shave from Sweeney. Seriously tho, Sweeney should have cut him then, but then there would be no more storyline or struggle for Sweeney, so that would pose a problem. lol

  • @FleetStreetNightmare But then what would we do for the next 2 hours? :D

We wouldn't have Not While I'm Around or The Final Sequence... or... *gasp* BENJAMIN BARKEEEEERRRRR!

  • @asmileisspecial lol that is true, hence why i said after my post that if that happened then it would pose problems

  • i love that the stage production is all on youtube! Thanks soooo much for uploading! This is my favorite rendition of the stage production.

  • @FleetStreetNightmare You could also by Sweeney 8D

  • He is one fine whistler.

  • @TheatreGeekGrl Yes! That is some beautiful vibrato on his whistle!

  • @TheatreGeekGrl Ikr? Vibrato whistle!

  • - Mr. T! You didn't!

    - I pity the fool who blackmails me!

  • @PufferBluntman

True that. I'd cut anyone's throat rather than pay out half my salary...
