  • nice one. this is awesome

  • the video stopped but the rain continued o_o

  • Man u are a genius

  • AHHHHH, i need to learn fucking maya at school, but i like blender so much more! and just FYI i have had more bugs in Maya than blender with even the basic tools. (ex: merge vertex, extrude, and apply material.)

  • bloody big drops..... :D

  • Yes New Video

  • Amazing! Thank's. I followed this tutorial and the result is awesome.

  • Looks fantastic!

  • Weee!!! New stuff. Amazing!

  • Turned out really good! Only thing that doesn't look right is the splash the rain makes, should be a lot smaller.

  • Amazing!

  • Cool ^.^

  • Looks like one of these small models. Like those modelrailways. Good job! Looking forward to it.

  • this is amazing realistic rain,, god job

  • Very AWESOME Sir..

  • Beautiful.

  • Good job :)

  • Awesome! Tutorial was worth the bloody 2 month wait lol ;) Well done!! :D

  • Looks very realistic indeed.

  • It looks good! Not to be overly negative, but why are there stars in the background like it's a clear night when it's raining and thundering?

  • @SSimpossible It's entirely possible to have a clear sky in the distance and rain clouds above especially when it's thundering which means a mixture of both hot and cold fronts merging to create a thunderstorm - The stars in the distance could be many miles away we don;t see directly overhead but if we did I'd imagine it to be a rolling bank of clouds coming from behind the camera.

  • Looks nice! I think the "puddles" should be a little bit smaller

  • Cycles?

  • Not really that realistic but good. Did you use reference videos?

  • Woah!

  • Those are seriously huge raindrops to make a splash that big :P

  • fuck beauty

  • Lovely scene. The blobs of wetness that appear look a little big though. Like Hamburger sized rain drops. Mmmm Hamburgers.

  • @shoepie76 I think that's deliberate, because otherwise this scene would need to go for about 5 minutes before the ground looks properly wet and we see the whole result.

  • @3DanielW yeah perhaps. I look forward to the tutorial either way :) Nice fire tests btw.

  • i think it is not enough realistic

  • Very Noice as usual looking forward to the tutorial :)

  • i hope this is for cycles ><

  • @stoneroses8818 nope blender internal

  • Excellent vid.. can't wait for the tutorial! :D :D :D! Maybe you should add some clouds though?

  • i cannot wait...

  • could something like this be used in games :P?

  • @AcAnimate no because the amount of processing power is not there to do this effect in real time efficiently

  • @BassPounderX

Actually, if you've seen Call of Duty 4's graphics you'll be amazed at the answer

  • @dgreater1 you for real

  • @dgreater1 you must be some kind of a idiot loving under a rock crysis2 is ne of the most visually advanced games out there right now and a feature like this COULD NOT be implimented in the game yea u can make it rain but no u can not have things get wet as individual water drops hit a surface that will like never hppen the amount of cpu and gpu power is not here yet

  • @BassPounderX Actually, it's easily done by adding a few animated texture maps that change specularity and normals.

  • @3DanielW but in the extent of that blender can do with the "dynamic" paint its not possible yea u can use a particle systm and spawn little textures to simulate it but u cant go from dry to wet as u can in blender or real life dynamicaly it would require to much processing power to do in real time if u know what i mean yea there are ways of fakeing ti but not to the same extent as blender or real life

  • @BassPounderX

Yeah, I'm an idiot but you're not thinking out of the box. Why the hell would you try to simulate the effects in real time that uses too much CPU and GPU when you can do it in some other ways. The point is, can it be done?

  • @dgreater1 of course it can be done - but as far as I know no one did it so far

  • @dgreater1 because thats is what blender is doing but not real time i knwo u can fake it but ur asking if the same can eb done that blender is doign and no it cant be done simple as that unless u know of a computer that can change a mask with 1000000000000000000s of rain oparticles in real time go ahead do it but there is no such thing

  • @AcAnimate of course you can achieve this kind of effect (by faking it) in a game as well... in the Unreal Engine you could make a shader, that changes over time

  • looks good, but it seems that drops are too large

  • How appropriate, Andrew, since it's been pissin down rain ALL day today in Brisbane.... :P

  • you should add some blur to make the falling drops looks more realistic

  • Really nice work, it looks really realistic and I am really excited about the tutorial. BTW really a big fan of your work.

  • Nice work!

  • awesome!

  • Only thing I could say is that the raindrops could have been scaled down but dude you have a future ahead of you.

  • @Bertolucci Never seen Queensland rain then...

  • God, Andrew, this is SO BEAUTIFUL! And I'm not just talking the DPaint drops. The WHOLE SCENE.

I've been goofy for Cycles for it's realism, as you know. But this is breathtaking.

I did your old Making Explosions tut recently, so I got into Smoke Sims. Can't do that in Cycles. And Cycles renders animation so slow, I'm seriously considering making it my 2nd Choice, and going back to BI. With shots like this, and the ani speed of BI, nothing is impossible. I LOVE WHAT YOU DO, ANDREW!

  • wow

  • COOL! though not in HD yet so cant really see the rain.

  • Good, but the rain seemed a bit big, maybe the road was just smaller. I am expecting you usual high-quality tutorial, so don't let me down! (oh, wait! The tutorials are FREE! How could I complain?)

I noticed that you said you would use Cycles for everything. Is this entirely true or will you occasionally go back to the internal (my computer can't handle cycles)?

  • i felt wet

  • Wow, looks good! I'm really looking forward to watch the tutorial.

  • Awesome! I'm very excited to see the tutorial. Thanks!

  • Very cool

  • Eh, It didnt exactly catch my atention :/

  • @HackLover007 well.. don't watch the incoming tutorial.. no one is puching ya

  • @David08Amm I wasn't exactly planning on it ;)

  • Looks good but at that first drop it looks a bit to large for that small wet spot don't you think?

  • Nice! I'm waiting for it Andrew!

  • First! Lol. Very Nice! Looking Forward to the Tutorial!
