Awwwww this scene always makes me laugh and what an amazing film with unbelievable actors in Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss...Pure class. It's a shame Dreyfuss and Shaw hated each other whilst filming this movie.
this is the only version of this song i can find on youtube with the modification to the lyrics and the tune. does it have a different name? its driving me nuts!
@misfitsmhm Most versions I've found are sung in minor key...Spanish Ladies (England), Yankee Whalermen (Boston/New England), and Brisbane Ladies (Australia). The tune he sings is closest to The Ryans and the Pittmans, the Newfoundland version, but he still uses the words of Spanish Ladies.
my dads cousin lived on martha's vineyard at the time this movie was made steven spielberg payed her $500.00 in 1975 to be in a scene only half a second long to be one of the people running on the beach !!!!!
Damned Americans always have to fuck things up. Boston???? Its Old England for fucks sake. Can't they get anything right?! How dare they fuck up the words to this fine old song!
@CoalCutter73 Well whooped Old England real hard in the Revolutionary War, so we figured we could do damn well as we pleased with your old songs :-) Cap'm....

@nickmellor34 Maybe so regarding Dreyfuss and Shaw, but it is probably part of what made them both so convincing.
