If I remember correctly at the very end of this version thiere was a tiny little figment up somewhere hanging from the ceiling waving goodbye. Like a homage.
When they built this, everyone called it dumb, slow, stupid, ect... then, when one of those "big" epcot people came in, he rode it, and he hated the ride, and made them start on a 2 million dollar new ride... at least the third version is a LITTLE better! great to hear that this only lasted 2 years ;]
@funspot202 A little better? The third and new version sucks of all three! Figment is annoying, the scientist isn't a very good actor and Dreamfinder is STILL gone! 2 million bucks wasted. The new version is not a little better. It is a lot worse. The original version is still the best version and did not need to be remade. The new one is basically Disney saying " You want Figment? Here, have him in each scene and about 50 of him in the last room if you want him back!".
@Benstudio13 dude, chill it's all in opinion.. i'm just saying that at least the 3rd one is like 5% better than the 2nd one. It's not as boring and they brought back figment. we all know that they both aren't as good as the 1st one. so shut up and deal with it, you can't tell disney what to do, if they would, they could buy everything you own :p it's what disney desides no matter how mad we are at them for doing it, we can't do anything about it!
At least this version had the upside-down rooms, which looked amazing because they were made to resemble REAL rooms;in the current JITIwF,it's become "Figment's House",which is all black-lite colors and cartoon furniture---in short,it bears no resemblance to reality, and isn't as interesting.
This ride gets more flak than it deserves. As dire it was, it wasn't nearly as dull or calculated as the current version, which is too preoccupied with plot instead of imagination. But from what I've heard, Disney has plans to fix that.
Looking back on this horrible redo now, I must admit, it is better than the third version. They tried putting back Figment and the theme song, but now it's just annoying.
This version did have some pretty cool effects like the butterfly in a much better position than it's currently in and the breaking table effect...
@disneynut06 The third version is the worst of all of them. The original version was and is still the best one. Even the second version is better than the new one. Figment is annoying in the new one and the scientist is a horrible actor. The third version is basically Disney saying " You want Figment back? Have a whole room with about 50 of him! And lets put him in each scene!
There's no imagination in this ride, in fact, isn't this the one that says that the guests don't have any imagination? Talk about poor customer relations! And boy, I really wanted to an upside down toilet I would walk over to Home Depot, I don't have to go to Orlando!
Yeah but Epcot probably still has old recordings to the orginal ride scripts right? If they ever want to re-biuld this they could just but old voicing in the ani-matronics, I mean they said that they wanted Figment to say different lines in JIIw/Figment so they got David Goelz, which really doen't sound so close to Billy Barty though, but still good
I've ridden all three versions. Original is by far the best. And I must say that this is one of the most idiotic rehabs in the history of WDW. The ride itself isn't idiotic, it's the fact that they replaced something as amazing and wonderful and whimsical and technologically advanced (for its time) as the original, with this.
Oh, yeah, I remember hearing that as well. If it hadn't have been for Kodak's stupid idea to replace it in the first place, this wouldn't have happened.
Kodak had a reason. At the time thier contract with the attraction was almost up, the contract said the ride HAD to change by 2000, so to keep sponsorship, they proposed a ride that was more scientific than entertaining, and that's how we got Journey into Your Imagination.
Listen, I did research it as well. I just didn't realise that they had to in order to keep sponsership. And why didn't Disney just try someone other than Kodak or FujiFilm?
On another note, there is definitely something going on in the upstairs ImageWorks! There were lights and people up there last week! (I also hear talk that John Lasseter has something to do with the IWs up there...)
So far, it seems just to be the Team Possible activity. =/ That's cool and all, but Imageworks, what used to be up there (and still is, just unused) being open again would make my day. Imageworks was this play/activity area with lots of cool things having to do with illusions, technology, light, color, sound, all kinds of cool stuff. I'm sure there are some videos here if you search for 'Imageworks'.
Unfortunatley, I have sad news. Because of the time that has passed since, and considering that Disney has not said anything regarding a refurbishment of this attraction, I am sorry to say that most likely, the rumors have been false this whole time, and that based on the timeframe, there won't be a 4th version.
My guess is that the fish itself was a projection. So does anybody know how the thing with the butterfly appearing and dissappearing in the cage worked?
I do. There's only half a butterfly, and a mirror going halfway down the cage. When you're on the side with half a butterfly, it looks like a whole one, and when you're on the side without the butterfly, it reflects an empty cage.
the first version is so different in concept from this version, in terms of interpreting imagination and perception, however I prefer this version to the new version with the cracked out figment
There is another reference to the original JII in the current version. Next time you ride JIIwF, in the finalle with all the figments, if you look closely at the figment the is flying with the music sheet, on the music sheet is a sillouette of Dreamfinder's dreamcatcher machine.
No Figment = FAIL. I loved the old version sooo much. >_< Argg...I never got to see this version, I saw the revamp with Figment, which was even more sad I think cause they destroyed him and it was mostly annoying and less imaginative. At least this version (in your video) is all cool and imaginative. ^^
The references to this and the first version (man I wish it were back!) are all in abundance. Next time you see JIIwF, look for a door that says "Dean Finder" on it. Closest lead to Dreamfinder ever noticed. And, Figment's new voice Dave Goelz makes him feel very cold and annoying, not the nice friendly purple pupil we all remember.
I remember riding this version when i was very young and was GREATLY disappointed XD now i see why. the original was magical <3

1:33. Nice try, Eric, but you will not do well as the Ghost Host. I think I'll stick with stretching rooms.

I forgot just how bad this ride was until I watched this video. Truly a horrible incarnation of this ride! haha Thanks for sharing.

I disagree. The 3rd version is better than the second version.
And bringing back Figment and the "One Little Spark" song really was an excellent movie.

.....I agree with everybody else, this is definintely the weakest of JII's 3 incarnations.

its sad that Billy Barty's vocie as figment is in such a small part as the last time Ever... (r.i.p. original vocie of figment) :(

Dave Goelz does a great Figment and doesn't sound too far off from Billy Barty.
I know that they sped up Dave's voice, but still...
Dave is a very funny and talented guy anyway.

Don't worry, from what i've heard, the current version is going to be closed and replaced by something that is similar to the original incarnation.
frankydman 4 years ago
Are they bringing back Dreamfinder? Please let that happen!

As a matter of fact, yes. In fact, Tony Baxter, designer of the original JII, is supposed to be in charge of designing this ride.
