  • That is one mother of a bowing arm !

I bet her Tchaik drowns out the orchestra !!

  • @lilyonsan would have to agree with poms1955. This piece was written in the classical period meaning, which ultimately meant the player (while staying close to the tempo) was not restrained to a strict metronomic beat. Pine's interpretation of the piece I think accurately captures the "humor" of the piece, reflecting the depth that is Wieniawski and the professionalism required to perform this piece to the nth degree.

  • Does she sing as well? :o She looks like a vocalist lol

  • This is so amazing. She plays with such passion and emotion. My daughter is preparing this for her first year exams in the summer 2012 and if she played it 100th as well i would be well pleased.Thank you for giving me so much pleasure as this was a piece i had never heard before.

  • My only problem with this is that she doesn't seem to follow any concept of tempo with this. That's really only necessary when you have a cadenza or another part without the orchestra. By playing it this way, it seems to me that the movement loses a bit of it's direction and seems to wander on. Now if that's personal input from the player than I guess I really can't argue with her but in my opinion it's poor taste. Other than that her sound is very good and intonation and tone blend really well.

  • @Lilyonsan I have to disagree with your comments. This piece is perfectly in Tempo with Rubato where required. The piece does meander about and that is how it is written. If you listen to other famous players playing it, it sounds identical (except for their own interpretation of course)I would say her counting and rhthyms are spot on.It is a beautiful and passionate piece and I just adore her interpretation of it.

  • @poms1955 That's your opinion and I shall respect it. But as for me, I still say that there are many better players and that I don't much care for this version.

  • such beautiful, warm playing.

  • This is what i call God given virtuosity that can simply pierce hearts.....what a terrific player.........

  • I mentioned to my teacher I was amazed at your playing of this piece, and he responded "Rachel Barton Pine? She's one of the best violinists around today."

  • Bravo!

  • i enjoy some of the phrasing that she does! probably one of the best versions on youtube. but by far my favorite version of this piece is by joshua bell

  • My god, fabulous intonation.

  • So warmly played;A Great Performance!!

    poicpi

  • Your bow control is incredible. You are my new hero.

  • her dress... 0-0

  • who would dislike this this was an awesome performence

  • Now lets just say that Rachel is the bomb with this piece. She is my girl, I am telling yall man she got it goin on with this wieniawski concerto. I know we probably got some haters in the crowd but people like yall she throw shade to. Rachel girl, these haters that ever come your way aint nothin but some excess rosin off that bow of yours. dust them off flip that hair and keep going girl. Because you are phenomenal.

  • Woah so the last part, I thought it was awesome that you took those two breaths! It really gives the audience a sense of relief, not that it gets too intense or whatever, but just it makes me feel that there is clarity. And again I really think you have done a Wonderfull Spicatto. That part is really something to brag about haha cuz it takes quite some effort. I got it almost right away, but it is still not as perfect as yours and I practiced a lot =)

I have learned a lot from you thanks!

  • WOW. That was the first thing I thought at your entrance. The first F that you played was AMAZING!!!! It was like magic!! Your vibrato is APPALLING and like I LOVE the phrasing, your interpretation of it is totally awesome, and finally, that was a VERY well done and smooth Spicatto =)

Thank you for the wonderful video!

  • It is rare that someone today "moves" me and you did a good job.

  • This is amazing! I'm playing this piece currently, and for some reason it's very hard for me to get the right sound. Do you have any tips? Or about practicing in general?

  • Amazingly wonderful....

  • i am playing this piece right now and first i didnt know how i should play it. you made it so understandable and imaginable. thankyou so much for such a beautiful music...

this is one of my favourite too...

  • wow it sounds beautiful, but the violinist moves like a rockstar lol.

  • its very good but i still prefer shahams recording of this concerto

  • it's very good, but the performance by Rabin seems to be on a different level.

  • @potatoesaugratin Totally agree.

  • Certified Intergalactic! Superb virtuosity! Love you, Rachel Barton Pine!

  • Simply amazing

  • Rachel is quite simply the finest living violinist.

  • I concur that Rachel is a marvelous world class violinist, but

doubt that she (or any truly world class violinist) would claim to be the world's best. As long as Anna Sophie Mutter, Gil Shaham and many other incredible artists perform, there isn't (no should be) any "world's best".

  • OOPS...mquinnmg, you caught me doing one of my pet peeves...absolute comparisons where they either do not exist or are not warranted... mea culpa... I think what i was trying to say is that she is one of the violinists who I admire and enjoy the most. You are absolutely, 100% right... :)

  • im glad you didn't mention joshua belle hehe

  • Ah, a woman.

  • magnificent

  • DOnna di singolare bruttezza.... :S brava, anzi bravissima....ma proprio brutta... :S

  • Che brava!

  • i am learning this piece at the moment... and what can I say about this performance? she makes it look so easy, Utterly superb!

  • Excellent. A superb performance by Ms Pine. What more can I say?

  • Bravo - Bravo, bravissimo !

  • Rachel gives fantastic expression to this evergreen work. A shame that the orchestra were not together!

  • A very interesting interpretation. Well done.

  • An absolutely beautiful performance

  • Remarkable is status quo for you Rachel.

Thanks so much for sharing these wonderful videos with us...they are very much appreciated!

  • her dress..so big..

  • she is my friend on face book

  • Certified Intergalactic! The best live performance of Wieniawski's Concerto #2 ever caught on camera. Bravissima, Rachel! I'm forever your fan.

  • I wonder if she was rushing a little some areas....Hmmmm... Oh well she is great though

  • wasn't she rushing a little in some areas???

  • Is really fantastic...

  • Truly one of the masters of our time! By the way how do you like Jans violins?

  • Brava! Very well done!

It's funny to see that you have a chinrest over the tailpiece, because I have it too. And my friends say always that I have a stupid chinrest. Now I can say that I am not the only one!!!

  • whats wrong with the orchestra? they're out of tune and not following the soloist!

  • Beautiful playing! Would it be at all possible to upload the 3rd movement? Even if you can't thank you for these great recordings

  • I love the passion in your playing. Its like you are telling a story^^

  • I have the shudders this is so good

  • Magnífica técnica e interpretación, sin duda ¡genial!

  • Hi! you're very good ! This piece is difficult, what level is it? I play violin and I want play this piece

    thanks

  • it´s a really high level;)

  • Rachel Barton SALUDOS DESDE VENEZUELA NOSE SI ME ENTIENDES PERO ERES LA MEJOR YO ESTUDIO ESCUCHANDO TU MUSICA.......EXITO!!!!!!!

  • Brava!!!

  • this orchestra really sucks; rachel is too good to play with this low a level orchestra

    Felicitaciones

  • that's a strange comment, and it shows possible dispassion for the romatic era. It was the custom of the day to wear the heart on one's sleeve which is an expression to be as open as possible about one's love. Remember, before this period of expression, it was common for people to have their husbands chosen for them by their parents.

  • wonderful phrasing. you certainly did Wieniawski justice by playing this concerto. congragulations!

  • lovely!!!!!!!

    Where did u studied?

  • An absolutely beautiful performance

  • you are really good. i loved your humeresque peace. i play as well. and im workin on the bach double. ive got a long way to catch up to you. four years for me so far!! great job:)

  • anyone that spells piece that way ....probably doesn't have that much musical experience!

  • anyone who comments on someone's choice of spelling is a real bitch.

  • @sportsfan1937 asdaf

  • Wonderful performance.

  • Because your performance, this is one of my favorite Violin Concertos. But another top favorite is the Dvorak Violin Concerto, which is rarely performed.

  • Yes, the Dvorak is a gorgeous piece (even if Joachim never came around to it) ... it was given its U.S. premiere by Maud Powell, who also gave the U.S. premieres of the Tchaikovsky and Sibelius concertos!

  • I never knew that, about Maud Powell, that is. Say, do you play the Elgar Violin Conceto? (If you don't, you really should.) My violinist friends always say it's bit like the Dvorak in that it's much more difficult than it sounds. Although, it sounds plenty hard to me. Anyhow, I think you're great.

  • @RachelBartonPine It is nice to hear that someone is to give Credit to one of the first few female American Violinists. I wish I could see her statue just once to be inspired by her. If I remember correctly she gave her debut with the Mendelssohn...Amazing...

  • BRAVO!!!!!!!!

Beautiful, elegant performance of one of my fav. concertos.

Ms. Pine, you've done it justice- hope to see more clips of yours soon.

  • what a well articulated, robust, romantic performance, great soul and expressive power--powerhouse performance--I recently sold 85% of my CD'S, but held on to one titled Homage to Sarasate/w/Rachel Barton and Samuel Sanders, that was you, right?-- I need to listen to you more.

  • i liked your playing, wonderful sounding fiddle also

  • Spectacular!!!!

  • One of the most complete performances of the Wieniawski Second. It takes a acutely intellectual mind to bring more than a lot of violin playing to this work. She finds the heart of Wieniawski's musical message to this performance and delivers it wrapped in her luscious tone and seeming effortless technique. Barton Pine, you only get better as time goes by.

  • This is one of my favorite concerti. I was at one of your performances in Columbia, SC when you played the Brahms, and I really, really enjoyed your cadenza.

  • I love this performance, great. It is really close to my own concept of this concerto.

  • Really nice performance.

  • Lovely performance Mrs Pine!!I have admired your wonderful musicality and I was blown over with your powerful account account of the Brahms-one of the best I have heard.

    Brava!!
