Absolutely beautiful. Have been listening to it on the Album BEHOLD THIS HEAVENLY NIGHT. Maybe our Chorale can perform this next season! (Fort Smith Chorale) Thanks for posting!
the second ever performance of this in britain was my school choir last christmas (after the Albert Hall!) :P i loved this piece so much!! so beautiful...
This song is so beautiful! We're performing it at Highland Community College in Highland KS on Wednesday the 8th of December, 2010. Many thanks to the one who posted this on here. :)
Words cannot begin to explain how moving this is. My choir is singing this for our Christmas Cantata in a few weeks, and I have the solo for this, and being able to put the love and emotion in this and very touching. I love this song now.
I believe the cello solo in the beginning acts as the transition from the essence of the traditional story/classic "Carol of the Magi" piece, to this new, lovely melodic line with the luscious harmony that comes with it . Love it.
this song does not translate online. john rutter tends to be a heavy composer, so it is not a surprise it doesn't sound out as his best... we get it, you like the cello and unified voices.
@sitarooman your dad's a great cellist! I'm a cello performance major at Florida State and I'm playing this with my choir tonight. He sounded so great!
Either the sound is off, or that conductor needs to learn how to conduct.

The opening few bars.....gentlemen, singing softly doesn´t mean without focus and conviction.

@Eurofrank1 i totally agree with you on that one...the opening few bars just don't match up with the rest of the magnificent song
