Just the other day, I found out that "Bear Hunt", a book my father had once taken from the library for me all of 26 years ago when I was 5, is by Anthony Browne. I went to a different library today and saw it again for the first time in all those years. The illustrations are simpler and show a bear outwitting two hunters in what seems to be darkest Africa. The plants growing in the background have similar "hidden features" (e.g. leaves shaped like mouths, an eclair like @ the mad tea party).
My favorite book is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland as illustrated by Anthony Browne. His vibrant, detailed, surreal illustrations are perfect for this story.
