I worked in Romania in 1992 and this series was on the English TV station along with Bonanza. I went to a disco there and the operator had gotten hold of Elvis, Chuck Berry and Little Richard records and was enraptured with them. Communism had just fallen and they were open to everything Western. Of course, when I went back, in 2003, they had our cars, mobile phones, McDonalds.. the lot, but the quaintness and innocence had gone, along with manners I found.
