Perhaps my favorite album - after all these years! March is simply brilliant! The song-writing is great...great sound...heart-felt, simple, yet explosive and diverse. It's probably the best album of '89, or any year.
I suggest counselling, perhaps electro-shock, maybe even a lobotomy for anyone that takes things so seriously. Say something stupid like Dylan conspired against Penn, I doubt it and offer my opinion. Ask what other songs are good on March - I say so. Perhaps it's time to get out a little and move out of mom's house? You get your jollies out of name-calling? Fine. I could care less; I didn't write a whole manifesto against someone.
Friends: I look at sites almost daily for 3 years when someone writes me. I usually know most of the songs I view (unless it's country, classical or jazz and I still know some .. I just don't know Rap or Hip-Hop). I was amazed that Dick's site singular achievement of a sort is it is a barren wasteland of not one great song.
ConT / I meant for "need" to be inserted before "how". See it's no problem for me to admit mistakes and I should have said good-bye before hello to you... But you will never appreciate Forever Changes as you have trouble with "changing" at all. I've seen your bland site. And Love Forever Changes is never on sale for anything around 5 buck (yeah this has nothing to do with quality necessarily, sure... see I have to spell things out for you again & again). H E A D A C H E you are...
First up, I hate Sean Penn. Blow me. But this album "March" Michael came up with is very much worth several listenings! This recording (for me) blew away anything Sean ever did on the big screen. If you want some avant-garde rock.....this is the album for you. Great guitar work though-out! Too bad his later stuff sucks....and Sean - Your still a pencil-dicked weasel! Thanks Michael, from many years ago.
@DickLodge68 Great song. Hey nice to hear honesty: that his later stuff sucked. I think Bob Dylan got jealous of this next bob dylan and dicked with him but it was probably Sean. Sean is all attitude and he makes for boring movies (overacted in the fine Mystic River in the bedroom scene that all of Hollywood loved) and he was going to play Phil Ochs in a movie bio .. fine to produce it but Sean could never have the understated charm & talent of that fallen hero who is less know than Michael.
@11xzxzxz Sure! But I really doubt Dylan or Sean had anything to do with "Free for All", or anything else Michael Penn recorded. Unless you know something I don't. Regardless, Penn had a great album with "March", which I'm sure were songs he'd had for years...and that's usually why the first album is best. Sean's best role was a the slimy, curly-haired lawyer in Carlito's Way, I think. That suit's him to a tee...I f*cking hate that guy! What an elitist Hollywood liberal schmuck!
@DickLodge68 I was kidding about "sabotage" of his career of course! Funny, I have the same idea about first albums being long stirred and that is why they are the usually best & second records are rushed by the studio and more often suck . I never bought March. I love No Myth and This and That but what are you favorite next two best tunes? I didn't like Sean's lawyer in Carlito's Way (and his hair was ridiculous at times and I understand you anti-Hollywood glee) but the movie was good.
@11xzxzxz I like every song on March - a rarity for any album really. But it on Amazon for 5 bucks! Ummm...in Carlito's Way - Sean Penn WAS the slimy lawyer! Haven't you been paying attention? Obviously not...go buy March - it's a great album! Innocent One and Half Harvest are the other songs I like....they are all good.
@DickLodge68 Listen dickwad you really get off on sound smug and important .. me too but only when someone acts cocky and stupid. Stupid by itself is fine. Also listen to Love Forever Changes if you want to hear a fricken record with all good and great songs, so much better, well subjectively better as favorite in polls from the movie industry, than Penn's March (I mean Michael not Sean or Chris.. I guess you how to be told it wasn't Chris, the dead Penn).
@DickLodge68 Now listen and never write me again.. please? By the way your dick is lodged in 69 not 68. I don't suffer cock-sure fools as you. I strongly & obviously IMPLIED THAT SEAN PENN WAS THE SLIMY LAWYER in Carlito's Way? 99% of the People would know that. CAN'T YOU INTUIT? It never stops to amaze a modest quiet unassuming guy as me how creeps like you automatically say dumb things .
@DickLodge68 CONT (by the way creepy that is abbreviation for "continued") No, I didn't spell Penn's name in that sentence in my post but you are so eager to show how smart you are that you didn't pick up the very obvious inference. Who the hell else would I be talking when I imply a slimy guy other than you?

The lead guitarist is Johnny Marr, originally with The Smiths. Watch his great video with Neil Finn on YouTube entitled, "There Is A Light (That Never Goes Out)." Classic.
The guitarist is actually Gurf Morlix, multi talented musician who plays a lot with Lucinda Williams. This clip is about 19 years old, that is Patrick Warren on Keyboard and Chamberlain, DJ Bonebreaker from X on drums, and I believe the bassists name is Alan Klein (or sounds like) Saw this band many times in 1990-fierce!!!!
@SuperTeenSleuth, Actually, my name is Allen Kamai rather than Alan Klein. I had a fantastic time touring with Michael and the band for the March tour. The whole Penn clan were very classy!
