@jioboi Thanks man. Ya in my opinion, I think the Sony SLT line of cameras (a33,a55,a65,a77) have the best autofocus system by far of all 'DSLR's :) Still LOVING mine and I think its perfect for youtube!
@Smolenskiy711 No problem :) If you're looking for an inexpensive telephoto zoom for your Alpha with decent picture quality, you won't be disappointed with this one!
I'm not sure but in 4:50 when you are talking about how "tight" the manual focus is. Could that be because the MF/AF switch was in the AF position? I'm a novice too not tryin to be critical just wondering myself if that makes a difference. Good video and humor btw! I just got my NEX 5K yesterday up from my DSC-T90 and looking at getting this lens with the LAEA1 adapter I should get AF enabled. Happy shooting!
@crackedaces Thanks for the kind words bro, as for the af/mf, ya it was in AF, but the zoom ring is what I was rotating which is independent to the focus ring, but ya if I do try rotating the focus ring instead, its dam near impossible when its in AF, but it should be :) Good job on the NEX5, my sis has the NEX3 (from my suggestion to get it) and she loves it! Honestly though I think your e-mount lenses are much better if you plan on doing video, my a-mount has some AF motor noise in video :S
in my A55 i use an external mic from my fatality gaming headset :D its lot better than the internal a55 mic but i also use manual focus Yes if you get any external mic it should be LESS noise
@Peacefulhumanbeing With my Rode Videomic, I found if you flip the mic towards you instead of facing forward the noise is GREATLY reduced, but still slightly noticable. But if you just use an audio extension cable and take the mic off the cam (I mount it on a spare Gorillapod and have it point anywhere I like), audio quality is AMAZING :)
@ifeellikepunchingyou No probs with the questions, I dont mind. What do you mean 18-55 doesnt zoom out? 35mm is approx what the eye see's (it differs with each type of camera) so anything less is considered "wide-angle" and anything more is a zoom in. Don't get discouraged with dslrs, they may be overwhelming at first, but once you slower discover their potential you will be glad you have one :) I honestly cant go back to point&shoots anymore now.
ive got cannon 500d and the other day i was trying to record a video but when focusing when you press that zoom out button for AF it kept doing the click ( obviously because of the lens focusing on the image) ..and i assume thats the click we can hear on your video too. Is there any way of silencing the noise ? i.e a different lens of external mic ? ( 500d cant do external but 550d does )
@bibekpd If I remember correctly with he 500d/t1i, are you talking about the AF ON button during video? Where the camera opens the aperture to focus effectively, and it causes the image to brighten momentarily before focusing? Whatever it is, I think your best bet is to get a "silent" motor lens - they are faster focusers and alot more quiet than the typical kit lens. If you have the 550d, the better solution would be like you said, an external mic.
@bibekpd With external mics, Id recommend the Rode VideoMic/ VideoMicPro. They are said to eliminate most camera/lens noise like focus and stabilization noise and greatly improve general acoustics.
@ifeellikepunchingyou NICE! Youll love it, and learning about how to use a dslr and photography is actually really fun, Ive had mine for 2months and still have so much to learn. If you have any questions feel free to ask Ill try to help out.
PS keep your receipt, you might be able to get some $ back if it goes on sale soon :)
i know nothing bout camera. im just wondering if 55mm-200mm is good enough to capture a good pic from a distance somewhat like ringside to ringside from aircanada center?
@ifeellikepunchingyou Ya 55-200 should be enough zoom from one side of the ring to the other, thats only like 50meters max I'm guessing. 55-200 is a "budget" zoom though, so it won't be as fast or as silent as the more expensive ones.
yea, it includes 18-55mm lens, 55-200mm lens, 16gb memory card for $1004 before tax.
oh crap. a month ago i was torn between nex 5 and a33. now, i dunno if i should buy this or wait for the a35. thanks for your response. btw. i was the one who send you a tweet with j0ann3cald3ron as the username in twitter.
@ifeellikepunchingyou My bad I thought 1004 was after tax, no that's not really a good deal. If you get them separately right now its the a33 w18-55 thats 729$ @bestbuy, a decent (class 6or faster) 16gb memory card you can find on sale for around 35$, and I can show you a way to get the 55-200 lens for 126$. In total that is 890+tax now, and if you wait Im sure the a33 kit will come down in price, it was 679 a few weeks ago at futureshop.
Also I would get the a33 over the a35, the a35 is rumoured to have only small improvements and if you were originally thinking of the nex5, the a33 will more than suit your needs and it will be 100-200dollars cheaper than the a35 once its released.
@ifeellikepunchingyou 1004 before tax? Is that the a33 with 18-55kit lens AND 55-200 lens? If both lenses, yea thats a good deal. I got my a33 early february with just the kit lens and it was on sale 690$.
Also, keep in mind since the a33 is discontinued (a35 will be released soon) , it will go even lower in price in the upcoming months :)
@PureTranceMedia Do you know if the cheaper Sony 50mm lense does this a well ?
mrPACarrier 2 weeks ago
is it normal that the zoom is not smooth ? my Sony 18-55mm lense do that as well!
mrPACarrier 3 weeks ago
@mrPACarrier Ya all Sony SAM lenses do this, the smoother version is Sony's SSM lenses, but they cost alot more.

@PureTranceMedia sure the link is in your prv box btw !!!! I have an A55 not a 33

If I get an external mic for this cam, would this annoying focus sound disappear?

@ifeellikepunchingyou And good idea not opending the 55-200 yet, always learn the basics with the kit lens first.

Using a Sony DSLR is the worst choice ever. The best thing on a sony is the Auto Focus in Video Recording.
