  • What A Legend! JB Lenoir. Powerful Message.

  • The Blues is TRUE

    Peace & Respect

    From Italy

    Max

  • great song, great man, great documentary!

  • Along with most of the suggestions you see on the right hand side of your screenhis great clip is taken from the Wim Wenders doco/dramatization "The Soul of a Man".

Such a fantastic way to learn about the true history of some of the most influential musicians of the last century...

  • bad overlaying, Scorsese (, whitey). The tune speaks for itself.

  • someone has reported thiw video as "unwanted", or "spam", i'm trying to post it on my fb page, and it said that it is impossible! some racist dichead from Alabama perhaps?

a great video, a real blues master! blues power! greetings from Creta, Greece

  • GOD HOW HAVE I NEVER HEARD J B LENOIR THIS FUCKING GUY RULES. I wish there was just a straight version of the whale song can someone upload a straight up version of the whale song??

  • If it wasn't for the Scorsese film I would never have heard about J.B. Lenois. It was a revalation. He had so much to say, great tradition of delta blues,, but was also saying things that were relevant and political at the time, Sad he died so early, and from lack of care, says it all really. If he had lived longer, he woudl be up there with BB

  • @maximol2923 : Several decades before the Scorsese film, on one of John Mayall's 1st albums, he had a song called "I'm Gonna Fight For You, J.B.", and then another song "The Death of J.B. Lenoir". I guess I am older than you because that's the first I heard of him.

  • Love&Power for the black people in the USA much greetings from Germany!

  • for how long will america be so dumb? poor JB LEnoir

  • Wow...For some reason I can't figure out i can't run these clip of video!!!! (But that witn standing...)

There are so many artist that represent and truely define whom we are as a people because they continued to channel the nuances of our culture from it's source...This one of those individuals, proud, outspoken, unbowed a true soldier

in the struggle...RIP (Thank you for posting this...)

  • R.I.P.

    5.3.1929-29.4.1967

you did so much for the blues.rest in piece.

  • This is powerful stuff, not least when you read luvureally's comment below about American's being sent to Vietnam to fight for democracy (both black and white), while still having to attend segregated schools back home.

  • wow!

  • Wim Wenders

  • beautiful meaningfull amazing beautiful song much respect man peace out

  • Dear, that song completely fills me! I wonder if there are any covers or newer versions...

  • Many thanks!

  • Que letra que pegó eh... mas o menos jaja

  • Music is NOT subjective! That is a lie! Words do matter and they are what they are! Don't be so embraced in the "hip-hop culture" that you take whatever including worshiping them all because you like the beat. It's a dangerous thing music if not used properly through God Almighty and his son Jesus Christs directional guidance!

  • fuck alabama I hate this evil place

  • Hi lizardking nice upload. Did you edit this video with the martin luther freedom speech? i was wonderin if you could post up the full videos for alabama blues and the whale song...

  • Hi! No i didn't... Martin Scorsese produced a Blues Documentary in 7 DVDs, from 7 various directors including himself. And this is from Vim Wenders - The Soul Of A Man DVD.

  • FUCK ALABAM!!!!. THIS is probably one of the true musical revolutionary in his times

  • wonderful video

  • those last few seconds made me quite sad - when his picture fades into the space. remembers me of how much too soon he left...

  • Haha, look at him at 2:28.

    So badass!

  • ha ha so true.

  • we approach the threshold 40 yrs latter very cool video

  • We have finally crossed over this hill!

  • SO GOOD. AH.

  • The Whale Swallowed Johah was taped in Germany in 1965 while J.B. was on tour with Lippmann and Rau's American Folk Blues Festival 65. Others on the tour were Freddie Below - the drums heard here - Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Big mamma Thronton, etc.

  • The Whale has Swallowd Me, in my honest opinion, embodies something much better that band blues could've become.

It didn't. It stuck to it's cheesy , stilted 12 bar drum and piano riffs that can be applied from song to song, and only serve as a venue for a lead guitarist to show off. Sorry BB, but I like Lenoir better.

  • THIS MAN GREATLY INFLUENCED THE BLUES THAT WE HAVE TODAY.jOHN MAYALL WROTE MUCH OF HIS WORK IN THE SAME STYLE ...AND ERIC CLAPTON,MICK TAYLOR,PETER GREEN,COCO MONTOYA..ALL WORKED WITH MAYALL.THANK YOU J. B. LENOIR!

  • ONE THING I DON'T, REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND IS WHY WHEN IT COMES TO BLUES ARTISTS IT SUDDENLY MATTERS WHOM THEY INFLUENCED AS IF THAT GIVES THEIR WORK SOME KIND Of LEGITIMACY. FUCK THAT! J. B. LENOIR IS GREAT BECAUSE HE IS J.B. LENOIR, ERIC CLAPTON AND JOHN MAYALL CAN KISS HIS SHOES THEY ARE NOWHERE NEAR HIS WORK.

  • u tell em metyuewb ! all them british Crackers were biters with no reason to feel blue never mind sing about em...

  • you fool. non of these blues heroes would have had recognition without white men. especially british white men. We were he ones searching for true talent. you racist dumb fucker.

  • i'm white british myself you clown,

    recognition means nothing,

i'm talking about creativity, life experience,

having a reason to sing the blues rather than emulate them...

f*** crapton and all them other troglodytes.

  • everybody has a reason for singing the blues. that is proper ignorant thinking that because these men are the best at it, that they are the only ones who deserve it...Life experience. half of these men were alcoholics, thiefs, cheaters and low lifes. the only reason they had the blues so bad was because they were the bottom of the barrel.

  • eric clapton went to art school. case closed

  • "the only reason they had the blues so bad was because they were the bottom of the barrel."

Your arrogance and ignorance is astounding. I wish I could send you back 70 years ago to Alabama as a Black man and see how well you would fare.

  • I would fare pretty well considering I am white. Just another colour fearer I see. Bottom of the barrel. Im reffering to the post war blues era dick. When shortly after equallity began everyone was scraping the barrel. The working class people in Britian and america were all poor. Having to live in hostels separated from their families.

You really do think that because they were slaves 100 years ago they are still the worse off race now.

  • If you read the post I said send you back as a Black man. I am from Alabama. Numb nuts you are still missing the point. Working class Brits and whites in USA did not have additional burden of racial inequality. While my father fought for "demoncrazy" in Vietnam, his children were attending segregated schools in Alabama. So what postwar equality are you speaking of? You don't know what you are talking about. It is a miracle Blacks in USA survive at all.

  • Im talking about the 60's when a lot of blues artist "blacks" were bringing out songs even though they were free. Not enslaved or unequal, If I were a black man in those days yes I would have a really bad life. But saying that does not mean that you are the only one entitled to the blues. in reference to what the lyrics are about and what you are trying to say. Blacks in the south are totally different that the ones 70 years back.

  • Again, read my post. My father was in Vietnam from 68-69, we were still attending segregated schools. Again, where is this widespread equality you speak of? There was still segregation in the sixties! Didn't say we were only entitled to the blues. But blues is a cultural expression of Black folk's story in this country, whites did it with country music. Jazz, ragtime, blues, gospel, r&b/soul, hip hop have been embraced worldwide, but they are still the cultural story/expression of Black folks.

  • I agree with you Blues has been an expression of Black people. It goes back further then the 60s though. My teacher talked about it in my music apreciation class.

  • As a white baby boomer living in Canada. I have so much respect for the blues. The blues is a healing,. It was born out of the horrible trials of slavery, it was a cry to God for freedom. Lincon delivered.

I ache over racism, past, present & future. Life is not about black, white, Jew, Muslum, Chinese, Korean, etc.

It's either love or hate. We need to understand & love our brothers. If not, we are all enslaved!

Watch Martin Scorsese "The Blues" if you want to educate yourself.

  • PS luvureally.....to me slavery was the one of the worst times in human history. It has plagued my life in spiritual pain....why I ask? And living in Canada I listen to First Nations with the same plight. So that is why I say it 's not about color...it's about HATE!

  • Slavery In USA was based on color. That is what I was commenting on. The treatment of the Native people of North & South America was based on color.

  • Hi

I agree with you 100%. Color is the reason, but you ahve to keep asking why? So I respectfully feel that a disdain for color is rooted in hate, and hate is rooted in fear and/or greed. And at the top of all of these is evil. To me, just keep asking why and you end up at evil. Thanks for listening!

  • Greedy whites europeans thought they were self-righteous! they believed in their superiority towards coloured people, because they had been enlightened during the eighteenth century and others civilization such as africans did not! white religion is expansionist, they wanted to govern everything because they feared the unknown!

  • @Nuge17 "to me slavery was the one of the worst times in human history"

Was ? Slavery still exists in different part of the world

  • Of course it does....I was talking SPECIFICS, and not getting hung up on semantics.

    Thanks!

  • @Nuge17 But you weren't specific or clear

It could be mistaken for sheer ignorance

    No Problem!

  • @lolaoahaha I think you should grow up. Are you bored or just looking to nit pick about nothing? Grade 6 ended a long time ago! Go chase your own angry devils! Please don't try to dance or condescend with me over semantics. I was clear....you need to learn to read.

    "No Problem"

  • @Nuge17 No, you need to learn to be clear

and remove the log from your ass

Seems like you're the nitpicker here *rolleyes*

  • @lolaoahaha No, you need to learn to be clear

and remove the log from your ass

Seems like you're the nitpicker here *rolleyes".

  • @Nuge17 See what I mean *laughs heartily*

  • @lolaoahaha See what I mean *laughs heartily*

  • you two are cute.

  • Excuse me?

    Are we not human likes?

    You fuckin stupid mug!

Britons have feelings - so we CAN feel blue... Gods sakes... Poverty, women, money, friends, work, relationships, etc etc etc etc etc !!

People (including me) feel the blues every day of life... in this day in age! I take it, in your books, thats not real?? WTF? Get a grip of teh real world man... Your a bubble...

    IDIOT!

  • now lets not get tense here homosapien,

always remember that posting comments on message boards is just another form of computer game and should in no way be likened to real interaction. therefore 1 should not expect to find sober and considered utterances.

but most importantly for your own personal development's sake, remember that music is subjective and not a sport or science, there4 there is no such thing as 'best'.

  • @metyuewb Right on the mark dude. Glad you can see through all the smoke and mirrors of Mayall and Clapton.

  • @metyuewb AMEN! I've been saying this forever. The Blues is an art in and of itself, and these Bluesmen were great artist in their own right. Of course they influenced people later down the road, but their music stands on its own.

  • how come when black history month rolls around-we never hear about the great blues men?

  • JB simply the best! thanks!!!!

  • check it out, true blues man!

  • this is alabama blues/the whale, from his great "alabama blues" record; produced by germans: mr. rau and lippmann. no one wanted to here one of the few great political blues singers in the usa in 65... 2 1/2 years later the man was dead...

  • This is great, thanks. Love JB Lenoir's music. I have his "Eisenhower Blues" album.

  • What a pure voice this guy really had, love his style. Really enjoying delving into some JB Lenoir over past few weeks. Great stuff.

Respect for post. Peace & Love

  • amazing. seems like he knew his shit. as time did tell

  • don't believe i contradicted myself, with what exactly would have I?

  • How? If J.B. always leave us speechless with his perfection.

    Thanks, man.
