Of course he would have his moments but same can be said by Nesta. You can see Messi frustration when he let himself fall to the grass looking for a penalty kick and the referee (for first time in long time) didnt concede it. It was Barcelona home game and no one expected that...

I do agree that the players you named are world-class, but I wouldn't say that premier league defending is amateur. I also feel that defenders are hard done by, as they are never seen as 'best in the world' like attackers are.

When and where did Nesta own Messi in a 1on1 except for that brillant tackle? Messi owned Nesta twice in a 1 against 4 situation and slotted an assist in between him and 3 others. Old Nesta in a 1on1 would be eaten alive by Messi in most of the cases. Messi gets tackled by lesser defenders as well.

I did not deny the greatness of Zidane and Ronaldo, where did I do that? I deny them being the only ones who passed Nesta. Zidane, again, was a midfielder, with a sublime touch and otherworldly coordination. He did not run at entire defences the way Messi does every game. Young Ronaldo could pass anyone, like Messi can pass anyone. If you look for someone who owned Nesta during his real heyday in the mid 2000s you'll find neither of them, but you'll find Ronaldinho.

Nesta and Zanetti played together with and against the likes of Zidane, Ronaldo( the real one), Di Baggio, Maldini, Laudrup, Koeman, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Jaap stam, Ryan Giggs, Figo, Raul, Batistuta, Bergkamp, Cafu and Matthius to name a few. It's a pity we haven't seen a whole group of defenders such as the two of them, defenders who could take Messi on their own and actually win the ball.

When Inter Milan beat Barca a few season ago, thy did so by playing, that last classico all I saw was an attempt to injure the Barca players. It goes further to prove a point though that there isn't really competition in the world hence the reason Barca are at the top. I just hope some quality comes back to football soon. Nice to meet someone who actually understands todays game and yesteryears. :)

Yes, he got a yellow card with one foul but his other clean tackles Messi couldnt even believe it. Of course he would have his moments but same can be said by Nesta. You can see Messi frustration when he let himself fall to the grass looking for a penalty kick and the referee (for first time in long time) didnt concede it. It was Barcelona home game and no one expected that...
