I've got this vinyl - what a classic! Daft Punk can kiss my a*&! though - big sell out merchants! Anyway I think the tune you are thinking of was someone else - had that Jane Fonda workout sample over the top of it!
"Many record companies offered us deals," says 21-year-old Thomas Bangalter, "they came from everywhere, but we decided to wait--partly because we didn't want to lose control of what we had created. We turned down many record companies."
Bangalter and his 22-year-old grade school chum, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo instead opted to sign a license agreement with Virgin, who guaranteed their continued independence and freedom as artists.
"We weren't interested in the money, so we turned down labels that were looking for more control than we were willing to give up. In reality, we're more like partners with Virgin." When asked about possibly censoring their material under the watchful eye of a record label, Thomas says: "We write everything, we do all the creative, we say exactly how it's going to be recorded. There is no compromise."
Way too much integrity to be sellouts--and they're notoriously anti-fame. You lose.
To each his own, everyone has their opinion. Are you the official opinion of the world that says Daft Punk are not sell-outs? To me Homework was genius, but since they have completely ripped off some songs and made commercial dribble with others. With those quote's you posted, you only prove they're the only ones to be blamed for their crappy music. And their Grammy appearance proves the point even further. Absolutely sold-out.
Yeah, to each his own - Daft Punk can still kiss my hairy be-hind.
Listening to that track 'Teachers' on Homework now (great album) - these guys sold out man!
Where did the sudden desire for cheesy tunes come from? Suddenly it's all 'The Music Sounds Better - ooh, ooh' - cheesy pop house. If you like Daft Punk, then fair play to you - Homework was amazing, as were their early remixes. Since then - sell out city!
@losador that style came a long time before Daft Punk, are you forgetting their work with Crydamoure and Roule? Thats where their roots stay, and songs like Music Sounds Better and Gym & Tonic show their real style. It's french touch at it's best, taking the memorable and enjoyable parts of songs and making it last forever. It's not a rip-off, it's a re imagining.
@sybi0t What are you talking about? Where were the cheesy vocals on Trax On Da Rocks or Spinal Scratch? They were all wicked tunes. Great slabs of vinyl! There was no 'ooh, baby' on them. They cheesed out man! La fromage grande!!
Thomas did Gym Tonic by himself, Bob Sinclar took credit for it, Jane Fonda sued Bob Sinclar (since he is credited) for not clearing the sample of her voice
Daft Punk (Thomas and Guy-Man) had nothing to do with Gym Tonic. Get your facts straight as many rely on youtube for factual information about songs they discover here.
Yeah! This is nasty. It was also on that episode where JJ went down to the local disco to find a date. He pulled up to a girl and he had all 12 zodiac sign chains on so he could switch as needed.
