  • that moment when david cook sings the most sexual suductive song in the phantom of the opera and when david archuletta sings the most girlish song in the whole movie

  • He's a good singer but this is such a rape of a beautiful song. I mean the song 'the original' is amazing, this version is just tacky

  • Amazing!!

  • I like how he took a female's song and turned it around. He has an amazing voice and I'm not even a fan of David Archuletta. :)

  • im sorry, but this doesnt even touch the original, hes an ok singer, but he kinda ruined it for me

  • Nothing compared to the original way the song is sung. But still a beautiful interpretation.

  • I prefer the more classical, Emilly Rossum's version of this song.. But I've gotta say, that boy's voice is F.L.A.W.L.E.S.S.!

  • i like emmys version best, this is okay...thats saying alot for david artuleta.....

  • i m in love <3

  • Ok, I was expecting this stupid pop version of this beautiful song from POTO but this was actually pretty good. I still like Emmy Rossum's version better but i still liked it.

  • he took out all of the real emotion of the song and turned it into a typical pop song :/

  • My favorite American Idol performance of all the years it's been on tv. I love Archie's voice. Fills my heart with joy to listen to this.

  • Well that's one way of butchering a classic Phantom song.

  • I WANT to like this but it shouldn't have been changed at all. Its horrid.

  • This song is one of very few that are perfect the way they are, and any changing of the music can only be taken as an insult. I respect his attempt, but there is no way a man should ever sing this song. it is meant for a soprano, and only a soprano.

  • no, just no.

  • that boy is so god damn hot.....

  • he isn't the type of person to sing phantom.. its opera not pop.

  • as much as i love his voice.... this takes away from the emotionalness of the song to make the tempo upbeat.... dont like it... blah

  • This was pretty good

  • just joking.

  • hes gay.

  • Go back and watch David Cook sing music of the night and you will see why he won.

  • David's version and interpretation of the song is incredibly awesome; immensely heartfelt and soul penetrating, exceptionally brilliant for his age and experience to sing a known theatrical music and turned into pop-ballad by his angelic singing voice. He is not only rare, He is THE only ONE, he is so divine! He can make millions of different people feel the same emotion by the power of his singing - that's more than magical.

  • This is a favorite performance by David of mine as well. Just beautiful. A gorgeous arrangement as well, with the guitar, piano and strings. As Randy said that night, "this boy's the one to beat!", and Paula said "it was absolutely perfect". Nothing beats David with an orchestra as he's proven many times these past 3 years.

  • he ruined this song

  • SHUT UR MOUTHS!!!!! ARCHIE WAS THE BEST ONE ON THAT SEASON AND HE SHOULD HAVE WON NOT STUPID DAVID COOK!!!!!!!

  • this was written for a women for a reason.

  • He's such a Mariah! :D

  • I think he looks like crying at the end of his performance :)

  • @Mad4john ALW was there, he mentored them and he liked the performances.

  • @Tommyis18 i never knew that.....i don't watch american idol but i am love phantom to much to let someone ruin it!

  • @Mad4john wait dumb american??? ur not american. then what the fuck are u doing watching AMERICAN idol???

  • @supdudeman54 i'm a phantom fan...i wanted his hear his rendition of 'think of me'! Is that a crime?

  • @Mad4john That is pretty harsh, but i agree. This is meant as an opera song. Not a crappy pop song.

  • @blahblah4149 Having seen proper sopranos sing this (sierra boggess). It is meant to be an opera song and crappy pop songs don't pass well with me.

  • @Mad4john I know right...

  • It´s very different from the original, yes.

But it´s pretty cool, isn´t it?

  • Please make it stop! I wonder what ALW would think of this...

  • like this if you are under the age of 20 and listen to this kind of music :)

  • O_O.. this is so so different from the original

  • Oh I love his interpretation and very well sung!!! =)

  • andrew lloyd webber week, im guessing!

  • beautiful beyond words simply just incredible.(=

  • so this is what musical theatre sounds like when it dies...

he's got a great voice but this is the WORST arrangement/rendition i've ever heard.

  • Better than anything Bieber can pull off.

  • @d0nthate0nme - I'm not sure why anyone thinks voters matter ... I mean seriously, do computations and statistical probabilities each week. As for winners, on all these talent shows, winners have NEVER been the MOST popular contestant, what are the odds they'd win every time?

  • @Tommyis18 i guess they are the buyers?

  • @d0nthate0nme it wasn't bullshit

david cook has an amazing and strong voice, its one thing to have opinion and another to know what u are talking about.U can't say david cook has a bad voice cos then u are just saying bullshit.

THey both have an amazing voice, its just different.

  • NOt my favorite rendition.. the movie was the best... but nice try

  • Well I looooved this version...he was so musically on point here. Simply Amazing. He sure can churn up feelings inside us doesn't he?

  • its just not the same as it is in opera form

  • i love the boy and the song but not together! he sings it american where as emmy rossum sings it like a goddess.

  • the cutest boy on earth ! with the most amazing voice :D

  • amazing voice, but i really hate this version...

  • shame on you.... if you are pop keep your weirdo sounds far away from opera

  • UGH. I just can not stand this cover at ALL. It's so disney, teenybopper, I absolutely can't stand how fluffy it is, and I'M a teenage girl.

  • @cheersforale I know!! me too!

  • very beautiful rendition!!!

  • This sounds better with a woman singing it. I don't think he sounds bad, its just my opinion.

  • He is a great singer. 10*******.

  • My, my, my, this is ai show and guest mentor was Andrew Lloyd Webber and his songs. The idea of the show is to make his well known theatrical song to a singer's own style. The original is beautiful. David made this into a pop version within a week. Even Lloyd Webber gave David credit for being creative, Bravo. I like David's version.

  • The original was a masterpiece, but give him credit for making this song his.

  • Oh come on, give credit where it is due. David

did an outstanding cover for this song it shows

how much of a phenomena he truly is to this day.

Now these upcoming wannabe idols are trying to

mimic and emulate this tremendous superstar.

  • omg he totally RUINED the song!!! Number 1: A boy SHOULDN'T sing this song!!! Number 2: He changed the words, it shouldn't be pop its opera and it was just awful! Let Andrew Lloyd Webber's masterpiece stay one will ya' David?

  • Wow what a blast from the past. O.o The singers just get worse and worse after seeing this again xD This season sucks :S

  • @Swicca22 so true, but it's because nobody can be better then Archie lol :) ♥

  • Respect.

  • The point of American Idol is to find an artist who can interpret other songs, and not just do a plain cover.

David shows his talent as an artist here, making the song his own. It's original, and his voice is beautiful.

:) I like the studio version better, but the live performance was gorgeous as well.

    Bravo, David! <3

  • He was trying to win American Idol not the Tony's. I suppose that's why he had to do this version. Forgetting that this song was taken from the Phantom of Opera, I think it was a good performance.

  • this song is good. but not in pop version.. it's almost ment for phantom so.

    david great job..but..

  • he ruined the song

  • I dont think he should make the phantom into some pop-junk........I HATE THIS!!!!! sorry if u dont like this post but he needs to get a song that he shouldnt ruin! i love the song but not how this udde sings it!

  • but that's what american idol does best

  • ........

I agree. What a way to kill the song.

    Great voice.

But the phantom is not meant to sound like pop junk.

  • bela musika

  • I freakin' love the way he sang this song! Everyone can suck it! You all don't have any taste in music! Keep on singin' David!

  • andrew should sew this sucks sarah did a beter job

  • I really don't like this version of the song. I much prefer it the way it was originally written.

  • VERY, BUT VERY NICE VERSION, THE ONE THAT SAYS THAT SUCKS HAS NO IDEA OF MUSIC...This song was made for Sarah Brightman, its beautifull what this kid did...or better said, what the band did...

  • thi song makes me sad

  • What a way to kill a song -_- I like his voice, but this version is horrible.

  • I'm torn - it is a very bold choice - very unexpected. And thats good. He made it his own and he sang it well. But it is just sooo difficult to hear a classic turned pop....

  • Why are people saying this sucks?

For American Idol, it was a VERY good cover of the song!

  • i love ya but this for saprano

  • I like the way he re-arrange the music into his own.

    Brilliant !

I remembered when I heard this the first time during AI - I was not able to sleep for that beautiful song keep on spinning in my head till wee hour in the morning.

The arrangement was well done and it was AMAZING !

  • Stuck in a 'mould'? Can't peep think outside the box... It is a great rendition in a 'pop-operatic' point of view! Just gotta love it... :P

  • This is where he lost. You simply cannot take a tragic song and make a syruppy ballad.

  • i dont like the butchering of amazing pieces...

  • Yeah, but Andrew Lloyd Webber was the one who let it happen!

  • sorry, but i really didnt like this. kinda poey. good try david!

  • He may have made it his own but he didn't do a very good job.

  • Brilliant song... this vertion is crappy tho...

  • i love the Phantom of Opera..

this rendition of David Archuleta is fine with me..he made it his own rendition..bittish of POP..what's wrong with that? we're talking about a different way of singing it. Try to keep an open mind..- we should not even based it from the POO broadway version.

Anything can be changed or modified as long as the melody is there - nevertheless i believe Andrew Webber was fine & approved it, so i guess it'd just be fine. imo.

his singing it in full emotion..

  • sorry musical broadway version..

  • If I hear the phrase "making it your own" one more time, I think my head might explode.

  • ha hahha.

    negative or positive comment..

    cest la vie...

    hahaha

    sounded pop..nice..

  • I kinda don't like this... I don't like how they changed it.

  • idk how i got it but i haf him singing this song in my psp

  • ya kno, i really liked this one! i normally hate people's covers of phantom and moulin rouge songs, but i really liked this one. very creative, and very cultured! it was modern and new, but still paid justice to the original! very nice XD

  • I think the girl from the show sings it much better

    but he's okay

  • He's amazing... but this is the WRONG song!

  • Brilliant...I love him. He is a dynamic performer. Have seen him twice and have tickets to see him June 20 in Los Angeles, and July 18 in Las Vegas.

  • i love it

  • I think it's a very original take on a timeless classic. He definitely made it his own here, and it does sound like something he would sing...

    ...I like it, atleast:D

  • i feel like he completely butchered the song though... i can't listen to this!!! haha but i am...

  • yes he sang it well, but since he changed it so very much it proves he knew he couldn't sing it well the way it was. ( still giving him the benefit of the doubt cause it is a womans song )

  • he made it his own and sure it sounds different from original but he sang it well.

  • you haters !!!! yOu should really think about how much work he put into it by remaking it :(

  • omg im panting !!!

  • wow what a wonderful rendition. It's just amazing to see how good Archuleta and his musical team is at creating this new reworking of the song. I was very impressed.

  • I like this version,but I prefer Emmy's version more.

  • I am a húge fan of The Phantom Of The Opera, but for some reason I do like his version of it. I think it's okay. But I like Emmy Rossu'm's version better ofcourse.

  • i am an absolute fan of andrew lloyd webber's Phantom of the Opera

and david did a great job of this song i think its amazing he has a good voice

  • Can opera lovers ever appreciate what David has done? It's impressive. This is a song about a lost and distant love. David has made it into a love ballad.

Emily Rossum is singing to the sky. David is singing to a real person. There's intimacy, not distance. You have to see it as a different song to appreciate it. Then you find a good song. Don't ask if it's "better" than the opera. It's a different song. Lord Webber couldn't imagine it that way because that way wouldn't work in the opera.

  • Think of Me is from a MUSICAL.

its not an aria. Sounds like it but it isn't.

So it has nothing to do especially about "opera lovers"

    but

i agree with the things that you said about david archuleta's version.

  • gisitato, it's amazing how many people think Phantom is an opera because opera is in the title!

  • Don't you mean Emmy Rossum?

  • I don't understand why people keep complaining about how David interpreted this song. The point was to take one of Andrew Weber's songs and put their own spin on it. I think he did a good job.

  • i love it. i mainly listen to the opera version to it, but David really put his own awesome touch to it and it turned out amazing!

  • I think that its a very exceptional interpretation of this song, really it is, but i don't like the change of style.

I prefer tha opera version, than the 'pop' version =)

  • I'm not going to compare his version to anyone else's. I've heard it sung by many people. I feel that David did a very nice job with this beautiful song. He sings from the heart. Give him the credit he deserves for having a fine voice and the desire to use it to the best of his ability.

  • i am sosorry put as a loyal poto fan, i must say that this was just plain horrible. this is opera and he completely destroyed it *shudders* please don't think of me as rude for listening to music i don't like but this was one of my favs songs

  • it's not opera it's musical but yes i did not like it one bit :-L wrecked it springs to mind!

  • true true

  • You can boo put thumbs down all you want, but really it is horrible. It puts the movie, and the musical to shame. This is song is not meant to sound like pop.

  • too damn true

  • too true lol

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • That was beautiful.

    :)

  • woooww that was beautiful

  • i liked his version, but it's just not the same as the original which is a gazillion times better.

But the kid had guts to do his own version of it.

  • is it me or is nine-tenths of the studio filled with girls??

  • o.o

    kinda true :D

  • omg he's so cute! And he sings amazing

  • sooooo beatifuuuul!! (L)

  • Mr. Webber didnt look to pleased! ( i wasn't either)

  • me either. i mean, keep songs in thier orriginal form! im pissed..

  • some people are just not comfortable with change.

  • Excellent man :)

  • this is a beautiful version of this song.

  • wowowowowowowow he's soo goodd and soooo cute!!!!!!!!!
