No, this amp is *NOT* worth $40,000. No amp is worth that much. It's just that some idiots are willing to pay that much. No Gibson Les Paul is worth $400,000 but some idiot with plenty of money bought one for that and the rest is history. Fuchs and a host of others make amps that sound pretty much just like this amp and if you closed your eyes I bet you any amount of money (how about $40,000) that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
For those of u who want a similar...imho...sound for ~$1400....then order a 50 watt Ceriatone OTS from Nik. I luv mine,,,.and I think that if the gentlemen here were A/B'ing them....they might not hear a lot of difference. Of course there are Fuchs and those Twinkle amps that are supposed to sound close too. Just my opinion if u dont wanna shell out ~$40k if u could even find one for sale.
jesus christ its on loan to you from henry keiser........i would never give it back to that man he is the only person ive ever seen who can make a dumble sound like shit experimental or not its useless noise
Doug! Awesome job buddy... That amp sounds fantastic! I dig the combination of effects, and the explanation for using them as well. Question: through your demonstrations, what amp(s) in your opinion resemble the Dumble in tone, and touch sensitivity? Most folks won't get the chance to actually play through a Dumble, but want to experience the Dumble vibe in a more accessible amp or effects combo. Thanks bro! I'm envious....
@Will12274 I'll forward this to Doug, but having played and experienced the Dumble firsthand while Doug was playing, the thing that makes the Dumble so special isn't necessarily its tone. It's the dynamics and sensitivity - Doug would confirm this. It responds to volume knob and pick attack like there was no tomorrow, and it picks up and amplifies EVERYTHING. That said, there are some great amps out there that will do this. The trick is that you have to try a lot of them out. Fuchs, Carol-Ann.
@GoofyDawg Fuchs does have some amazing amps. Two of his overdrive pedals I think actually sound better than a Dumble amp, but like you said, the Dumble isn't special just because of its tone.
@widepass Hey! We did not have a huge amount of time that day, and it was me that opted to just do a run and gun approach with the camera mic. For the Get Killer Tone DVD series Royer and AEA have loaned a bunch of mics, and I do have a number of 57s here as well. The 57 to me, is still a very viable mic in that more guitar players use them live and in the studio than any other mic. Placement is key however. Cheers ~ Doug
@widepass FYI, this wasn't a video meant for capturing the sound, but to capture thoughts and discussion about the amp. We wanted to take a completely different approach with this and have Doug _describe_ what was going on while he was playing; no one has done that kind of informational video as far as I know. Furthermore, I meant it to be more of a "grassroots" type of video than anything professional. It was never intended for that, so we dispensed with using the studio mics.
I love how he calls guitar hero a 'dvd'
