The actual amp sounds very very nice! The problem is mic placement! As I see, it's almost on-axis. That's a big mistake with an SM57, unless you are recording Van Halen (this mic position with an SM57 is actually the key to the brown sound, but nothing else). If you want a more general plexi tone, move your mic halfway between the center and the edge, and a few inches away from the grill cloth. Oh, and set that attenuator at least a click down. The speakers sound like they want to blow up :)
Sounds way too fizzy, Might have something to do with your mic placement, I've personally never gotten anywhere putting a 57 so close to the centre of the cone. Try right on the edge angled to the centre. needs some EQing, but it sounds way fatter and more natural.
@fastandbulbis yea i dont hear a marshall sound in this video i think it could have something to do with the way i miced it or that this was brand new speakers and brand new everything (and it isnt a marshall). to my ears (when im playing not listening to this recording) it sounds more like a marshall than the new marshall 1987x. but ive never played a real vintage marshall :(. compared to this video i would say that my tone is more compressed and less crunchy. also maybe more midrange punch.
@SuperTopa123 u theoretically could but i personally get 0 satisfaction from playing this amp at bedroom levels. and even with an attenuator on ur not gonna get bedroom levels. if u want bedroom levels get a vox ac4 or a blackstar or something
hi skateVA,im in a process of ordering plexi 50 1987 with the legendary Nik of ceriatone...i just want to know, can i have a nice distortion or overdrive sound out of it in bed room level without attenuator?(with TS9/SD1)
@1234Sebster i would prefer this to a new produtcion marshall but ive never played a vintage one and im sure they are better than this. the best marshall sound u can get nowadays is probably metroamp
The 50 watt plexi outputs 50 watts its just the dB's that your amp can produce are higher than the combined dB rating for your speakers. This is why guitarists back in the day used to blowout their speakers when they hooked a 100watt head into a 412 and cranked the amp with no master volume or attenuator. But since you are using an attenuator it doesn't matter anyways your speakers are safe as long as you use it. Nice sound and good playing though. Keep it up and you've got potential.
I disagree with fastand, your tone sounds great and very Marshally Plexi cranked!
very nice, I like it.

I use a Ceriatone Plexi50 1987 lead with a Marshall 1936 112. Check out my band The Gypsy Bangles for our tunes and a REAL vintage sound...

Nik, who built the amp told me that 50 watts is clean output and when fully driven its more like 60-70 watts.
