i just bought a 91 T/A... i think... or it might be a formula... i dunno but it has the same engine, love the car, and i also have a 84 Z28 with a cammed 283 in it lol, but the T/A makes a weird kinda grinding sound sometimes when i have the clutch pedal pushed in and the car is in gear... any ideas? =/

the odd grinding noise you're hearing could be the mesh on the cogs not being synched up properly nothing major, just needs sorting on the next Service

Hello. I have a 1991 GTA and it sometimes will not crank over, does not even make a sound. All the electrics work but there is nothing from the starter motor. It does not do this all the time, just sometimes, but it is a real headache when it does this. what can this be? bad gear selector switch? ignition switch? any ideas would be really appreciated. Thank you.

Have you checked the battery grounds? i had a problem like this where i turned the key and nothing at all happened except the electronics on the car reset. then sometimes it would start like nothing. turned out to be the ground on the battery was loose.

just looking at the video again - when you rev the engine you are getting some white smoke from the exhausts. my 1991 gta does the same. it isnt the head gasket is it? maybe there is coolant leaking into the gasket? or was that film taken on a cold morning. if so then it may just be condensation

that was a warm day, i later found out that 3 of my 8 injectors were reading only around 3-6 ohm's of resistance rather than 14 ohms, they were dumping too much fuel into the engine. swapped em out and man it was a brand new car. WOT causes the smoke to turn black, correct?

i see, where you also getting some hesitancy between 1st and 2nd gear if driving very slowly? I get this, when it shifts from 1st to 2nd at a very low speed, my gta hesitates, i thought it could be the throttle bore may need cleaning, or a bad fuel pump, but i had the car fully serviced, new spark plugs, fuel pump, but i still get some hesitation - perhaps it is my fuel injectors too?

Hey, my 1988 Firebird GTA blows white smoke too, I was too concern. Everytime I start it up, any time parked for more than a 1 minute or so,... White Smoke, haven't yet diagnosed it... how about you?

they came with the car. it's a ws6 trans-am and they came in the package. they were smoked from the factory and had a different look than the formula and base model cars. i dont know if it's ws6 trans-am specific or if trans-am's had it, or if just ws6's had it though

Hey, this is a very nice car, I do not own this one but i do have a firebird formula, thought id help you out, Well, To start out do a full tuneup(I.E plugs wires cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter k&n preferibly) then after you get er runnin' in tip-top shape, Get (Depending on your budeget) get Headers 2055 <---Part number on summit, high flow cat, cat back exhaust, het an accel high energy ignition kit, a t.p.i air foil, a 180* thrmo. i own a 05 vet Z06 and a firebird twin turbo trans am . and i love them both! i have never owned a foreign car. the only foreign car i would think of buying is a supra which i am looking into

They get good gas mileage. I drive about 50miles a day and gas isent even a thought. Just get MSD ignition, and make sure to put good oil in, tune the computer and seafoam it and i see no reason why you cant get 28 or 29 mpg easy on the highway. prolly 20mpg city if you drive it right.

i wish i could, i had to sell the TA because i have a 90 mile commute to school daily and can't afford gas... i had to get some shitty diesel mercedes instead. real amazing car, built like a tank and its a 3 liter inline 6 turbodiesel so its no slug but it sure as hell aint my old trans am. i sure miss blackbird haha

I take pride in the fact that I don't have to bring my car to a dealership or garage to do an oil change, and can rebuild an engine with my own knowledge. It's pride any man should have when they accomplish something on their own. Some people don't know because they either don't have the skill or desire to excel in what they do. I take pride in the fact that I can fix something, and anything, it's as simple as that.

i never drive it in the rain, i use carnuba wax or that turtle wax stuff... rinse, soap, rinse, soap and wipe down, rinse, squee-gee the car (leaves NO residue.. or use a leaf blower) and then wax. i always have it under a car cover when i dont drive it. and it's also a recent paint job

it's actually called "Turtle Wax", it's in a flourescent green cannister and its the wax you rub on. you could probably find it at any auto parts store

mine is a 91 formula but with an 89 front end and no ground effect and different tail lights, mines a mess though, i got it for $1100 with a 305 and 3speeds, gonna change it to 350 and a 4 speed, nice car man, we're got ourselves some classics, tace care of it and urself ;)

automatic i assume? man i just rebuilt my engine, top end, took me 4 months after someone put sugar in my gas and blew my injector tips into my heads right before the valves. valves were all messed up. now that i just rebuilt it, the tranny slips. its always tough love with these cars

the reason for the smokey exhaust was a problem with my spark... under my distributor is all rusted and obviously not optimally conductive that way. low spark leads to unburnt fuel, unburnt fuel leads to the 2.5 MPG i was getting highway and lower around town (it wasnt even repulsive at that point, it became amazing), and engine damage... so now i have to rebuild my engine. it doesn't start anymore at all.
