Early Damita Jo effected the sound of many an artist before she came into her own "sound." Again, she kept good company. In many cases, she could've effectively covered all of Ivie Anderson's work, especially "Shoe ShineBoy," and it would've been difficult to tell whose singing.
You could almost confuse her with Dinah Washington! Meaning, of course, that she's in good company.

Now that you mention it, she does sound very similar to Dinah Washington.
