I used to hear this on the Buddy Ray show on WWVA in the '70s. I bought it on LP when I lived in NYC in 1980 but it was not this version. I really like the lead guitar on this song. It is one of my favorite country songs of all time.
Oh wow! I remember hearing this song as a wee lad in a long, long gone Korvettes dept. store.Mr. Joe's voice is in fine form here.Even though I'm New York state born and bread, I love classic country,it is a chunk of Americana!
This and Everything I own were my mom's favorite songs. We listened to them over and over and sang together. I'm trying to find this music to DL or buy but having a hard time. Any suggestions?
I have the original on Cameo records. It starts "cold" with no musical introduction. It is much slower and sensual. Remember dancing to this song. Ah, the memories
I love this song....boy what a difference the Country version made! Listen to the original by searching The Uniques All these things! It is worth the listen. (youtube wouldn't let me post the link sorry).
This was my dad's favorite singer. He would get is drink on and play the "I'm Still Loving You" album. "Can You Imagine How I Feel" and "Hello Charlie" are forever in my head. Thanks for posting this, brings back great memories!
This song sounded so great coming out of my AM radio speakers as i listened to it on Salinas, Calif's. legendary country music station, the Tall T, KTOM. What a voice!!
Joe got a lot of mileage with this great song, written by Allen Toussaint under the penname Naomi Neville.
When Joe fronted the Uniques, they hit the singles pop charts with a slow ballad version in 1966. A string section was later dubbed in for the 1970 reissue. Then after Joe split from the Uniques, he established himself in the country field. In 1975 he rerecorded the tune for ABC/Dot with this upbeat country arrangement -- and it became one of Joe's several #1 singles.
@soonersfan2030 Thanks for reply, I don't know how to either, someone here may be able to tell u how...in the meantime I will try and find out for you so keep any eye out and thankyou.
I can remember this song from the 70's on 8 track. My dad played it until it broke.I love the feeling Joe Stampley puts into this song. Awesome stuff!
I remember hearing this song when I was stationed in Iceland. I am not a country western fan, except a few songs and this is one of them. I also just found out that he was the lead singer for the Uniques a pop group that put out "Not To Long Ago" which I bought the 45. Amazing!!! Thanks for Posting!

I wanted to play rock and roll as a radio d.j. but instead had to settle for my first job playing country music at KKOK in Lompoc, Calif. in the mid 1970s.
It was then that I fell in love with country music from that period to about the early 80s.
Anyway singers like Joe Stampley, Eddie Rabbitt, Willie Nelson, Loretta, Dolly, George Jones, Merle, and all those from the late 50s through the point I told you about, I loved 'em 'as they touched my soul.
God ~ I LOVE this song!!!!! One of my ultimate favorites of all time.

I was about 10 years old when this came out. Back then life was easy. This take me back to those times and gives me energy like a drug.
I can't play this song loud enough.
I thought I had outgrown those feelings and spirit . This makes me feel young again and want to watch the sunset.
Thanks for putting this up.
